Hi all, just setting up a second thread - I hope you don’t mind @Jumbojem but the other one was getting a bit close to ending…

Sorry to keep harping on about the weather but it’s still raining up here so instead of running this morning I’m going to get back on my lovely water rowing machine which I’ve neglected totally since starting running back in Jan/Feb. I miss it (and I miss the muscle toning it gave me) so I’m going to get back on this morning for a change.

Might do parkrun tomorrow or a longer run, haven’t yet decided.

Well done @SFRSmum and @Nedsatomicdustbin on your speedy runs.
Well done too those of you who got your long runs done. I should have done one Saturday but bumped it to today, a mistake, weather was miserable. Well, I suppose it wasn't windy at least! So only did 5.5 miles rather than the 8ish I'd hoped to do.
@Whataninterestinglookingpotato I went to Malaga for my trip. DS is going on a running holiday to Albuferia in March, the hotel has it's own running track!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 19/01/2026 18:43

@Jumbojem going to add Malaga to my list of places I might go if time and finances allow!

I did another very soggy lunch time trail 5k around the local national trust place today. It’s the first time I’ve risked running the day after a long run since being injured and it went ok. I kept the pace super steady (you couldn’t do much else with how slippery it was) and all seems well. Yay!!

trying to work out when to do my long run this week as away the weekend. It looks as if a solo, dark, wet 12 miles is on the cards towards the end of the week. Gotta love winter 😂

RunningInto · 19/01/2026 21:49

Went to squeeze a lunch 5k run in as weather too cold & misty fog to run at sunrise with dog as I’d planned. Hadn’t realised it was low tide so turned into beach run but only had road shoes on and the last storm has taken big layer off sand off leaving lots of exposed rocks & bedrock plus rock pools with water. It wasn’t my usual relaxing beach run more a constant jumping rock avoiding soggy feet run in the wrong shoes but nice to get it ticked off.
Malaga sounds good I’m always looking for nice active places to go. Just seen a winter trail run on a ski hill pop up on my socials feed. As a family we loved the alps in the summer too with great swimming and trails to explore.

BogRollBOGOF · 19/01/2026 22:37

My alarm is set for run o'clock in the morning. Malaga sounds so much more appealling than dimly lit suburbs by torchlight.

Kit sorted. Just need to do my duolingo streak then sleep 💤😴💤

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 20/01/2026 12:48

Well done @SFRSmum on your HM! That's a great time.

Welcome to the thread @Nedsatomicdustbin

Lovely to see you @Jumbojem - looks like a nice trip.

@xsquared how did you get on?

We had a lovely time at parkrun on Saturday, it was super friendly and welcoming and despite neither of us speaking the local language it wasn't a problem. Under 100 runners so we even got decent finish positions!

Back to reality yesterday with a drizzly 10K - should have been my Sunday run but we went for a long walk instead.

Hope you had a good pre-work run @BogRollBOGOF . I drove to the lake in the dark and had a lovely dip as the sun came up.

BogRollBOGOF · 20/01/2026 17:17

I'm missing the open water swimming. I need to wait until Easter for the water to warm back up and get my wetsuit on. I haven't been since September.

The run went well. My legs weren't well rested and I'm at my sluggish stage of the month, but I did the intended session which was intervals. I was really hungry by break time with 2 hours left til lunch. I really enjoyed lunch though!

I cycled to work to give my legs a "rest" afterwards Grin

xsquared · 20/01/2026 18:30

Thank you for asking @OhOneOhTwoOhThree about my half race on Sunday.

It was cold and soggy. No pb this time, but I did get my second fastest HM time at sub 97 minutes, so I'll take that!

This thread is keeping me motivated to get up early and start the marathon training!

Well done @xsquared that’s a fantastic time!!

well done on getting out before work again @BogRollBOGOF hats off to you!!

club run for me again tonight. It absolutely threw it down for the last 15 mins or so. We usually do 7-8 miles but our group leader decided to call it a day at 6.5 as it was just hammering down. Still a good run and I’m definitely staring to feel more like myself again.

SFRSmum · 22/01/2026 12:53

My plan is all messed up for the next few weeks, we are heading abroad for a fortnight so im just going to do what I can. Long run planned for this week of 14 miles, but im going to do a 2hr run tonight and do whatever ive got left tomorrow after work.

We fly on Sunday, I need to fit another run in before then too so we will see.

When we are away ive got an 18 mile long run on the plan, but I think ill split it into 2 runs in a day as it'll be too hot and humid to run after about 8am.

Sorry for the rambling, just writing it down to try and unmuddle everything!

Fantastic time @xsquared Thats incredible running!

Glad your noticing an improvement @Whataninterestinglookingpotato Its been wild here too, so windy and the sea was coming over the sea wall yesterday and soaked me, luckily when I was only 2k from home!

BogRollBOGOF · 23/01/2026 16:31

I've bailed on my extra early run of the week. I've felt kackered and valued the 45 mins of sleep more. I was dozing off while watching Traitors level of tired last night. Blooming hormones, plus they're making me stiff and showing up every niggle.
At least I'll feel better next week.

This weekend's plans are same as last week; parkrun and 10k. Hopefully it should feel easier now routine is picking back up.

RunningInto · 24/01/2026 08:49

Parkrun cancelled again due to weather here as we are being battered by yet another storm geezz it just hasn’t stopped raining this week. So went out early with DH as he walked dog in one loop I ran the other trail loop it was mega windy but only couple of light showers in the gloom of first light this morning. Another rain front due any minute for the rest of the weekend & a damp dog yet again. I’m full of cold too so not run all week, and I sympathise @BogRollBOGOF I’m having the same issues of broken sleep, sore joints & arthritic big toe joint now causing me pain, I love running & walking but may have to mix it up again with cycling & swimming to give my joints a rest. Getting older sucks sometimes!

BogRollBOGOF · 24/01/2026 11:45

Garmin hasn't picked up my monthly pattern of HRV plummeting, legs turning to lead and decrees me as "strained" and "de-training". No, Garmin, I'm not strained and de-training, it's just PMT!
By Tuesday, I'll feel 20 years younger 😂

Parkrun went well. It was hard work for the outcome achieved, but I know why it was hard work and it will do me good.

Our start line is awkward as it's at a bottle neck so bunches up and easily adds 30-40s to the time. They used to have seeding boards but haven't used them for a long time now. DS is now regularly comfortably at sub-25 and says even at his pace there's still a lot of joggers and walkers to get past despite aiming to be near the front, and that congests things up for everyone behind. I find it takes me the first km to get to the point that I can relax into my own pace.
Today I spent about ⅗s tailing a buggy I recognised as they tend to be good on consistency and I knew they were a managable pace zone to latch on to.
I managed to up my pace slightly on the last sprint, but was definitely in gasping mode by then!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 24/01/2026 14:50

Well done to everyone who is getting out. Lots of park runs cancelled this morning it seems.

I was on my way to one on the coast about 45 mins away to celebrate on of the running’s clubs 250th. In the way there I had a text to say it was cancelled and everyone was diverting to one in a town on the way. So I headed there. Good group of us and as all the other park runs in the area were cancelled it was super busy. It was really congested at the start but I was happy to take it steady on the first lap while it thinned out. I didn’t push the pace too far as quite sore after doing hills and track 2 days on the trot, but I managed my first sub 25 5k since being injured. So that was good.

a couple of days of no running for me now as feeling it after 3 days of faster paces. Have a good weekend all.

tinks3110 · 25/01/2026 09:22

Morning all,
hope you’re all well. I am just standing about in the cold waiting to start a 10k half and half race. 1st half trail (it’s very wet) 2nd half road. Am questioning my life choices right now

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/01/2026 09:58

Good luck @tinks3110 !

Well done @xsquared and good luck with the marathon training.

Sounds like you are recovering well @Whataninterestinglookingpotato , hope you continue to make good progress.

Glad you had a good parkrun @BogRollBOGOF

Boo to getting older @RunningInto . I'll join you on the past my peak bench.

I got out twice during the week, and had a steady parkrun yesterday. Long run of 11 miles on the plan for later once I've had another coffee.

RunningInto · 25/01/2026 10:58

Good luck @tinks3110 hope it’s not in the SW as the weather here is utterly pants! So so fed up of the rain.
Really feel for those mad souls doing the non stop ultra 100m Sw coastal path run over the weekend. They started Friday night & tbh I’m suprised they didn’t cancel it on H&S grounds. The coastal path has to be lethal mud bath?!

tinks3110 · 25/01/2026 12:53

@RunningInto was in West Yorkshire, we’ve had rain virtually all week! The trail was basically just running though a river 😂😂
i survived and loved it! It wasn’t a 10k pb (just over an hour) but I didnt think it would be with a trail section but but but I finished 3rd woman 🥳 and won a bottle of Prosecco! I have never had a podium finish 😂😂 I am ridiculously happy 😃

xsquared · 25/01/2026 13:59

Well done @tinks3110 on your race and getting a prize!

Thanks @OhOneOhTwoOhThree . Just hope the weather improves soon ad I'm finding wet and windy tough for motivation.

Jumbojem · 25/01/2026 15:44

@tinks3110 oh amazing getting on the podium! Worth the tough conditions.
Well done everyone on getting outbthis week, winter training at its finest. My shoe dryer and dehumidifier have been on non stop this week drying out various people's clothing.
I actually had one dry run, but in the dark so managed to plow through two big cold unseen puddles and got splashed by a car so still ended up soaked. Roll on lighter evenings, even if the rain carries on! With all this wet I have not risked trail at all lately and I miss it.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/01/2026 15:59

Amazing work, well done @tinks3110 !

I had a cold and wet 10m mile trudge on a new-to-me route. The route was nice and I'd do it again, lots of other runners and walkers around despite the awful weather.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 25/01/2026 18:17

Well done @tinks3110 amazing stuff!!

well done to everyone who got out and ran in rainy conditions this weekend.

I was surprised that I managed 3 more or less dry runs this week! I was fully prepared to be soaked but I think I got lucky. It started to spit yesterday at park run as it was starting but it stopped luckily pretty quickly. Really windy though.

fingers crossed for some dryer weather soon.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/01/2026 20:55

I've been lucky on rain. It's been damp to mizzle out there, but not a wetting, just dispiriting!

A gloomy 10k done, but happily, easier than last week. It gave me flashbacks to marathon training in the same conditions when everything was grey/ brown. The snowdrops were lovely though! I'm looking forwards to crocuses and daffodils coming up.

It's definitely taking grit to keep pushing myself out at the moment. With the weather at the start of the month I had felt "behind" from missing runs, but I'm now only a couple out from last year.

RunningInto · 26/01/2026 12:44

Well done @tinks3110 fab achievement. Great you can get 10k ticked off @BogRollBOGOF it’s so so hard to stay motivated in this weather.
I really had to drag myself out this morning and ran/walked with dog a 5.5k trail this morning. I’m still nursing a cold so had to walk the hilly bits but with yet another Amber rain warning incoming later I had to get it done early. Dog was happy enough she loves trotting along as I always take extra treats when she runs with me & today’s was sausage so she was super happy!

SFRSmum · 26/01/2026 20:37

Well done @tinks3110 what a massive boost to get a podium place!

We arrived on holiday this morning, and tonight I went out for a run. 8k was the plan. I got lost so did 11k. Poor DH was wondering where I had got to as id said I wouldn't be much more than an hour, i was nearly 2!

It was slow going, heat (30 deg ish), road crossings and photo ops slowed me down but I think i learned from it, Took a litre of water and drank it all.

Ive decided just to run the distances in my plan and not pay attention to work out types. Although I may use the gym for some shorter runs.

BogRollBOGOF · 27/01/2026 06:42

I tried getting up at run o'clock. Even got vertical and brought my running gear into bed to warm it before hearing the wind and rain and deciding that I'd rather have 30 mins more in bed than being battered by the elements.

Too much of a wind, rain, cold combo to battle.
