Hi all, just setting up a second thread - I hope you don’t mind @Jumbojem but the other one was getting a bit close to ending…

Sorry to keep harping on about the weather but it’s still raining up here so instead of running this morning I’m going to get back on my lovely water rowing machine which I’ve neglected totally since starting running back in Jan/Feb. I miss it (and I miss the muscle toning it gave me) so I’m going to get back on this morning for a change.

Might do parkrun tomorrow or a longer run, haven’t yet decided.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

@SoapCollector well done for doing your first interval run. I found that one difficult too. I start fast and gradually slow down which is the opposite of what Steve Cram wants!
A thorough warm-up before I set off has had a positive impact on my pace.

SoapCollector · 27/07/2025 21:09

Well done @MissScarletInTheBallroom and keep going!

RunningInto · 28/07/2025 09:25

Whoop no idea where that came from on a gloomie grey tired Monday morning but just ran my fastest 5k for quite a while. Decided to SeaDip first which I always run faster after as it reduces the inflammation in my joints. I realised my first 2k was fast and ended up doing negative splits all the way. Hope you all have Happy Monday running.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 28/07/2025 10:19

That’s fantastic @RunningInto glad you got out and did a good run! Having a sea dip first does sound lovely.

i have a strength class booked at the gym this evening. I am debating a quick lunch break 5k. Will see how it goes and how crazy work is driving me!!

Jumbojem · 28/07/2025 20:03

Ahh well done in that 5k @RunningInto what a great start to the week! Also welcome to @Stripeymouse
Garmin seems to be suggesting strength (body weight only!) workouts to me on top of running. Since my fitness/pace seems to be going backwards I've decided to lean into it and do exactly what it tells me and see what happens. So, yesterday was 25 mins of "core stability", which I am feeling today, and 30 mins of easy run today. Think I've become far too big a fan of easy runs last few months, with nothing to train for, and so not forced myself to push the pace. Result is getting slower and slower...

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 28/07/2025 20:13

Welcome to @Stripeymouse. Well done @RunningInto!

@Jumbojem I was perusing a thread earlier about strength training as that's the one thing I don't do. Although not sure how I'd fit it in along with daily yoga and joining a gym is not an option because of my work pattern. I might ask DS's for advice - both are pretty sporty and DS1 I know does strength training alongside training for his sport. I bought some weights for DS2 during covid times and they are still in the garage somewhere.

Planning to run early tomorrow morning - if I tell you all I'm more likely to do it!

Stripeymouse · 28/07/2025 20:48

Also planning on an early run tomorrow. Garmin is now my boss and it’s telling me to do 30mins which is less than I normally do, but I’ll do as I’m told.

tinks3110 · 29/07/2025 15:03

Hello all! Welcome @Stripeymouse !

I went out yesterday and did 4.2 miles (car in garage ran to pick it up 😂). Knee felt ok even though I didn't wear my knee supports. Considering a quick 5k when I finish work today as set my self a challenge of 50 miles in July and I'm 6.6 away from finishing!

I have another 10k on Sunday and am desperate to knock that 5 seconds off and get in under an hour!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/07/2025 18:22

Did you get out @Stripeymouse?

I had a lovely 5 and a bit miles. I did 30/30 running and walking intervals and had some segment PBs - go me! I had a paddle afterwards, and we've been walking and swimming this afternoon making the most of being on holiday and good weather.

Good luck @tinks3110 ! So close, both to your 50 miles this month and that 10K PB!

Stripeymouse · 29/07/2025 18:46

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree well done on getting out and getting a PB.

I got out too. 5km, but it was quite hot with the sun. We’ve got a big paddling pool and I jumped in that when I got back. My training schedule has me out again tomorrow so I need to get my running bra washed and dry in time.

Has anyone else found running has given them tenderness in their arms around the elbow?

hope you hit your target @tinks3110

@RunningInto a sea dip sounds wonderful

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 29/07/2025 20:16

Well done on your segment PBs @OhOneOhTwoOhThree

well down for getting out today @Stripeymouse i too have a big paddling pool which is great to jump in after a hot run!! I have to say I haven’t noticed any elbow tenderness from running.

@tinks3110 did you do the extra 5k? You’re so close to your goal!!

ive been out for a run with the club tonight. 8 miles at a reasonable pace. I have a 10k race on Friday night and will try and get another quick 5k in some time between now and then.

I have done something possibly a bit silly tonight and signed up for the marathon on the 12th October! It seems flatish and maybe a good first marathon. I’ll do a bigger one next year if this one goes well. Going to use this as a bench mark to see whether a good for age place for London is achievable for 2027. Let’s see.

tinks3110 · 29/07/2025 20:19

@Whataninterestinglookingpotato
i did go out after work and managed 3.5 miles! So just 3.1 to do on Thursday and ill
have reached my 50 miles

SoapCollector · 29/07/2025 20:38

7.5k for me today 🥳 my longest distance so far! Although I did walk/run intervals when needed during the last couple of kilometres. Think I may be sore tomorrow!
@Stripeymouse I've never had elbow soreness from running, just everything from the waist down usually aches!

@Whataninterestinglookingpotato marathon how exciting!

SoapCollector · 29/07/2025 20:58

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree well done on the PB's today.

Nearly there with the 50 miles @tinks3110 and good luck with your time for the 10k on Sunday.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 29/07/2025 21:46

Well done @SoapCollector that’s a great distance!!

SoapCollector · 29/07/2025 21:49

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 29/07/2025 21:46

Well done @SoapCollector that’s a great distance!!

Thank you 😀

Stripeymouse · 30/07/2025 20:56

Well done @SoapCollector

I ran 8km this evening which was a lovely run out in the evening sunshine and breeze.

I’m in the market for a new running bra. What do you all wear? My current one is the Shock Absorber runners bra. It’s fantastic, but very tight and quite pricey.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 30/07/2025 21:28

@Stripeymouse well done on your run. My favourite running bra is my cheap dare 2 be one from sports direct. It cost me about £3 and is great. I am not particularly well endowed in the boob area though, so may not work if you are.

just over 8k for me tonight. Started off steady for about the first 3k and then final 5k at race pace I prep for Friday.

hope everyone else has had a good day.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/07/2025 22:00

Well done @Stripeymouse. I went to Bravissimo and ended up with one of their own brands. I like them a lot and just keep replacing them. There was a thread recently where Sweaty Betty got lots of recommendations.

Good stuff @Whataninterestinglookingpotato. Lots of walking for me today. DH has challenged me to try his holiday running route so I can experience the apparently huge hill for once - I'll give it a go tomorrow or Friday before we leave on Saturday.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/07/2025 22:42

My marathon bra is a shock absorber (and I save my Runderwear pants for long runs too)

My most-used bras are Decathlon. I'm not of heavy duty proportions which helps.

I'm having a regular bra crisis. I have far more sports bras Grin

RunningInto · 30/07/2025 23:06

Shock absorber wearer here too I can’t use others as just not enough support. Used to have to wear two bras but since losing weight I can finally just wear the shock absorber ultimate run one. Joys of a larger chest. I tend to look on Amazon or a discounter to see if i can get one cheaper.

Stripeymouse · 31/07/2025 07:10

Thanks for the bra tips everyone.

good luck with your hill @OhOneOhTwoOhThree

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/08/2025 10:54

My run is done. 8 miles with some hills, a downpour between miles 6 and 7 and a wrong turning which meant I didn't do the big hill that DH always talks about (although I don't feel as though I missed out, as I was going uphill anyway in horizontal rain and a head wind). Finished at a coffee shop and treated myself to a nice pastry.

The sun is out now and the tide is coming in so we are off for a dip and a walk later.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/08/2025 10:58

Oh, and am planning to start this strength plan next week to give me something to focus on - I don't have any events planned, which is usually when I start to slack off and future me loses fitness, gains weight and wishes I'd kept up the running better.

16-week strength training plan for runners

No matter how many miles you run, you’ll need to supplement all those steps with some strength and conditioning – here’s what to do (and why it’s important)

tinks3110 · 01/08/2025 14:21

Hi all,
I got out for a quick 5k last night and made it to my 50 miles in July which I'm really pleased about.
Parkrunning tomorrow with run club and I'll be at the back with the slower runners to rest up before my 10k on Sunday (famous last words, I am not good at slowing my pace!!)
