The Barkley Marathons 2024. Conch shell at the ready...

No idea when it will start. Follow @ keithdunn on twitter as he's usually the only journo who attends.

Let's hope for another safe race. Maybe a woman can finish for the first time and hopefully there'll be a handful of Brits to cheer on. Although tbh, I'll cheer on anyone crazy enough to attempt it.

From John Sugden - 9 on loop 4.

One in camp
Two still on loop 3 (~20 mins to cut off for starting loop 4 - still hours to fun run cut off)

10 on loop 4!!

Maxime Gauduin leaves camp to go out there at ~35.55
Cutting it a bit fine!!

I don't think there's a chance he can finish, and having started loop 4 it won't count as a fun run. He must really want to challenge himself to his limits!

I gather the weather is much better than it has often been in previous years. Would that be a factor?

spartanrunnergirl · 21/03/2024 21:24

Does Jasmin have an Instagram account? Obvs I've searched her name but I seem to recall it's a different name to do with women's running or campaign for women's running or something. Tia.

Very much so

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/03/2024 21:32

I was watching a little film about Nicky Spinks earlier and she had to contend with fog and snow, which was what did for her first attempt in 2019. Also read a blog from a woman with 8% vision who did a substantial chunk of loop 1 with a guide. Absolutely incredible achievements.

weareallqueens · 21/03/2024 21:36

It's @Jasminkparis

Agree - it's an enormous factor. Cold is dispiriting by day and dangerous at night, but wet is worse as it makes it treacherous underfoot and you might need to detour to find safe places to cross streams if they are in spate. Ice and snow bring their own charms. And then there's fog.......

(Latest from Keith - daring shorts man Thomas Dunderbeck finished loop 3 in 36.15. Cannot proceed on the 100, but that's a fun run)

AuntieStella · 21/03/2024 21:40

Keith tweet: Ihor, John and Damian have passed RatJaw on loop 4

(But as we don't know if they're clockwise or anticlockwise; and as Keith only gave RatJaw updates on loop 1, I have absolutely no idea if this is good/bad/indifferent in terms of their time. Obviously it's good as it means they're still moving, injury free and no signs of hallucination!)

Spudlet · 21/03/2024 21:41

How far is RatJaw into the loop?

I wish Nicky would come back, I always wonder if being given the number one plays with your head? I think it would shake me too much

Well Ed Furtaw kept going at the Barkley until he was 74, and Nicki is now a mere 56 so never say never!

They haven't said who was Human Sacrifice this year

AuntieStella · 21/03/2024 22:07

Much as I would like to stay up to see if Guillaume completes a fun run, I’m about to turn in, leaving you with this meme from 2021

RelentlessForwardProgress · 21/03/2024 22:17

Jasmin is doing well in lap 4 - she's made up some time on the rest of the pack and is looking good. Brilliant work small European woman!

Spudlet · 22/03/2024 06:57

Come on Small European Woman!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/03/2024 06:58

No one's finished loop 4 yet. Cut off 0917 GMT. Keith: There were 12 Fun Runs this year, the most at #BM100 since the introduction of the 60 mile distance.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/03/2024 07:01

Also Keith: Maxime Gauduin dropped on loop four at Fire Tower and is tapped out.

Everyone else is still in there! Go Jasmin!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/03/2024 07:04

At 0623 GMT Keith tweeted: Nine runners are still on loop four. Runners must begin loop five by 5:17, less than three hours from now, in order to continue. #BM100

AuntieStella · 22/03/2024 07:07

#smalleuropeanwoman was Trending in UK on twitter yesterday!!

Guillame Calmettes finished loop 3 in 39.52 - completing a missing pages fun run. Pretty damned awesome to pull back from a setback like that and still make it.

Fellow Frenchman Maxine Gauduin dropped out at the Fire Tower in loop 4

And Keith has just tweeted that Ihor Verys and John Kelly have completed loop 4 in 45.46.32 and 45.46.36

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/03/2024 07:07

Photo credit: @ howiesternphoto. At the Fire Tower, assume loop 4.

NotStylishOrBeautiful · 22/03/2024 07:08

I kept waking up wondering where Jasmin was. I might keep the tracker open at work. Come on small European woman!
