Peloton experiences

Hi all,

Apologies if this is a recurring topic. I did a search but couldn’t find anything recent.

I m toying with the idea of getting a peloton, but because they are so hugely expensive, I wanted to ask around for personal experiences.

Before I had my baby, I used to run regularly - usually 5x a week. However, I ve found it really hard to get back into this, as usually by the time she’s asleep it’s getting dark and I don’t want to run in the dark.
I like the idea of something at home where I can just jump on and get a good workout which is why I m drawn to this as an idea.

Questions I have:
Are they good for post baby weight loss?
Are the classes enjoyable and suitable for beginners?
If I ve never done exercise bikes before, would you recommend?
Are they quiet to use?
Anything negative I need to know about them, or anything amazing I may not have come across?

Thanks for any and all experiences. 😊

I love mine. More than just an exercise bike, lots of weights classes, yoga etc. I wear headphones with mine, just prefer it. Bike itself is very quiet - better than any spin bike I’ve used.

I have a code that you can use to access the app if you like so you can see what’s available as well as the cycling classes. DM me if you’d like it.

custardlover · 10/04/2023 19:36

May I jump on this too? Are they portable around the house? I have had an exercise bike before and it was very heavy and I couldn't move it easily but would be interested if I could wheel it away as well.

Fudgeandcaramel · 10/04/2023 19:37

Best thing we ever bought. So much fun and such a broad range of content included beyond the spinning classes. Changed my activity levels a lot. It didn’t help me lose weight (you can’t outrun a bad diet) but it helps hugely with mental health and muscle tone and strength. I wish I’d had one as a new mum - I think it would have helped me cope. It’s very quiet and has earphones so wouldn’t disturb anyone. Would recommend getting a fan for comfort during more intense rides.

I have a non peloton treadmill but have a subscription to the app only which is £12.99 a month. I wouldn't do the live classes anyway so I don't really miss leaderboards and shout outs etc which is main benefit of a fully connected system. I find I use it.

They’re very heavy!

Fudgeandcaramel · 10/04/2023 19:38

@custardlover we moved ours once while having renovations. It’s doable but incredibly heavy. Wouldn’t be able to move it backwards and forwards after each workout.

Duvetdweller · 10/04/2023 19:38

Also although I have the bike I do the runs on a normal tread and improvise

Agree with this - it's a fab bike but so much more than a bike with all kinds of classes. I love mine!

Babelbabel · 10/04/2023 19:41

It must be the day of the Peloton! I have just started looking too. I’ve got no experience of spinning classes, but want something I can do at home. The classes are appealing as I’ve read they can be as brief as 15 minutes and therefore easier to fit in.

I’ve seen they’ve got a 30 day trial but you need to buy the cycle shoes and then they’d be wasted if I returned the bike!

Duvetdweller · 10/04/2023 19:44

You can just use the app though on a normal spin bike and get a feel of whether you’ll like it or not - I’ve got a code for 3 months free if you want it

Duvetdweller · 10/04/2023 19:45

sorry it’s 60 days

redyellowpinkbluegreen · 10/04/2023 19:45

I love mine. DH brought it when I was pregnant and I was furious due to cost... thank god for it! I do it either before she wakes up or in her nap. You can put your headphones on so no noise. I couldn't be without it. I do strength training classes through the app too

Avacadoandtoast · 10/04/2023 19:48

Another lover here! We have the bike, but we use the bike classes and do a lot of the boot camps and strength / core classes. Love it! You know you can get a peloton treadmill too if you prefer running? It’s expensive but looks amazing.

lunar1 · 10/04/2023 19:54

I've had mine 6 months and love it. They can be moved, but are not portable, I need DH or ds1 to move mine for me, its heavy to tip into the wheels and difficult to steer.

Xiaoxiong · 10/04/2023 19:56

I've been away for 10 days and am genuinely looking forward to getting back home to get on the peloton!!

Tgilaura · 10/04/2023 20:00

Wow! Thank you everyone for so many responses. Seems everyone feels pretty positively.
I suppose my next question is do they ever do sales, or is the price pretty fixed?

I got one from someone who was getting rid of theirs. Especially if you can provide transport, they often pop up second hand on eBay and the like. You then just sign up for the peloton app, and log in to the bike with your own login once restored to factory settings. We managed to fit it in the back of an estate with the seats down and taking the screen and pedals off.

lunar1 · 10/04/2023 20:06

Make sure you get someone to refer you, we all have a code and you get £100 towards equipment-I got the trainers. The referrer gets £100 towards clothing. I e never seen any significant sales.

I’ve seen them on FB market place and eBay. Don’t think I’d buy new.

FiftyNotNifty · 10/04/2023 20:13

Do you need special shoes? They have them at a gym I've just joined, they look like clip in bike pedals??

WhisperGold · 10/04/2023 20:16

You can spin bike from Amazon for way less than Peleton bike. Also if you buy Peleton bike you have to use £40/month membership instead of £13/month app (I think). YouTube cheap Peleton setup.
If you have loads of cash however, you'll have better experience on Peleton bike (more stats, data etc...). Classes are good fun if you can stand all the 'You guys are awesome' stuff.

Maple2023 · 10/04/2023 20:40

Love mine

I had previously done spin and been fit but developed (I'm not joking!) an allergy to exercise
Dermatology have managed to get it under control with a drug that's hard to get on the NHS

So I bought a peloton. The first ride I did was 10 mins and I thought I would need to lie in the floor for an hour!
It's been a year now and I use it just as much, did a 90 min spin class, do weights, barre, yoga, everything really

Shadesofscarlett · 10/04/2023 20:48

I have the Bike plus - bought it with 500 quid off in the black friday sale. Best thing I ever bought. Superb quality and so quiet. I bike or exercise daily - the classes are hard, really blooky hard, challenged me so much. Have lost weight and feel much better. Classes are live or from their enormous library. The yoga, pilates, core work, meditation are all great. You can do outdoor runs and walks with the app. I have not even scratched the surface on all the classes, programmes and challenges. Lanebreak is also great. Music choices are enormous too. Also I added daughter to my profile so she bikes and uses the app too for free. I have the app on my phone, can exercise from browser on laptop or app on the telly. My bike came with a yoga mat, shoes, weights and a bike mat. Best money I ever spent.

Madamecastafiore · 10/04/2023 20:58

Love it, use it along with the Peloton Guide, such a huge range of different types of exercise you can do.

I'd get an old style one and have it in a room where you can cast the peloton to a TV rather than the plus as the screen is quite small to follow a class on and if you get a guide it just sits above the TV. It shows you how to do exercises and then will count the reps you're doing in a class.
