Welcome all to the 2022 distance challenge thread!

Any form of self-powered movement which you can log distance for; any distance in whatever units you like for your own personal challenge!

You folks are putting me to shame already. Shock
I have done 2 classes and 3 sessions yoga though!

25km walked
0km biked

Slidey23 · 09/01/2022 08:43

@TheLongRider

I rode 225km today on a wet and windy Irish Audax with a lovely bit of bog road. The sun came out and dried me off but it was really wet for the first two hours.
Amazing job!!
Rodedooda · 09/01/2022 11:34

Can I join?

2021 was a write off for me fitness wise.

I'm planning to do 500 running (I'm not a runner, but I figure 10k a week broken to 2/3 runs is achievable, will push me to go out but not so tough I give up).

The other 500 from walks (over 2k to count) bike rides and swimming.

Tally so far
9k running
1k swimming

I need to get better Grin

No shame, it's not a competition! A mix with yoga, pilates, strength training or whatever is a really good idea imo, even if it doesn't leave time to rack up so much mileage.

And great to see more people joining in - there's no entry cut off point!Grin

4.5 miles today / 35 miles TTD

LagganBubble · 09/01/2022 12:12

Joining in - 20 miles since 1/1, and planning another 6-7 miles today. I've done this for the last 4 years, but lost my way a bit last year!

Jumbojem · 09/01/2022 22:33

Evening all!
Some fab mileage this week from you, in what has been a challenging weather week. Especially that Irish Audax, chapeau @TheLongRider!
Not a great week for me with work, weather and whatever.
Walking - 7.6/373 miles
Running - 20.8/1000 miles
Apparently I'm 1.5 miles behind on the walk target and 4 miles on the run. So will be trying to get back on track this coming week.

TheLongRider · 09/01/2022 22:39

I don't do that kind of mileage every week! Today I dropped my Christmas tree off to the recycling centre by bike. I crawled the 3km to the drop off point. My legs weren't happy after yesterday's exploits.

I know it looks daft but it's not stupid if it works!

Every little bit we do counts towards the total. Some days it's easier to motivate yourself for a long day out than to walk half a mile to the shops

Next year you should put some battery operated fairy lights on it.Grin

Other stuff to do today so rower again.

58.4 walked.
15km rowed

Love hearing about your rides!
Run2000km2021 · 10/01/2022 08:10

@TheLongRider that picture of your bike with the tree😂😂😂 Did you cycle like that?! I assume you had to push your bike😅

Running total 22km of 1000km

That’s brilliant, I love it Grin

@ErrolTheDragon thanks! Last year I had 1000 miles as a walking goal which was great but I need to do more strength and flexibility stuff this year as things are starting to creak!!! I should be cycling more though when the weather picks up.

TheLongRider · 10/01/2022 09:23

I cycled with it! I'd cut the tree in two and stacked both parts sideways on top of my pannier rack. My legs fitted in the gaps between the branches and I could use the pedals. The tree was pretty dried out, it wasn't very heavy just awkward.

I've done the same thing for the last four years or so. At least I won't be finding needles in the car boot for the rest of the year.

New username!🤩
That’s amazing, you must have gotten some funny looks @TheLongRider😂

IsThisNameTaken · 10/01/2022 11:17

Went away for the weekend but forgot my running shoes so the long run I had planned for Sunday didn't happen. Did 10.8km this morning though - TTD 36.3km (run).

rrhuth · 10/01/2022 12:20

4 miles today / 39 miles TTD
I am going to have less time the next couple of days but have already done 14 of my weekly 20 miles target so should work out ok.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/01/2022 13:38

7.9 km today

66.3 km walked.

I went to the gym today. Was supposed to a legs, bums, tums class but that was cancelled so did half an hour on the treadmill and half an hour on the bike, but forgot to make a note of the distances. 🤦‍♀️ The treadmill registered on my Fitbit, so I've done 4.5 miles walking today in total. And some more miles on a bike machine.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/01/2022 14:51

An atmospheric misty morning, turning into sunshine. We went up to the AONB. 10.2km

76.5 km walked.

I did 3 miles today which was a good thing because I had a meeting with a very rude person shortly after and the lower blood pressure was welcome!

42 miles TTD

Jumbojem · 11/01/2022 22:41

Sunshine! Lucky you @ErrolTheDragon was a dull damp day here. Sunny days seem few and far between so far this year.
Managed a 3 mile walk this eve, not the planned run but hopefully I can get back to longer runs soon.

Startagaintoday · 12/01/2022 07:15

Aim to walk 2022 miles this year. Week 1 45 miles. 🚶🚶🚶

Run1000km2022 · 12/01/2022 08:49

Wow that’s a lot of walking @Startagaintoday🤩

10k run last night, much needed.
TTD 32km

IsThisNameTaken · 12/01/2022 09:06

Foggy 6.2km run this morning - TTD 42.5km
