Welcome all to the 2022 distance challenge thread!

Any form of self-powered movement which you can log distance for; any distance in whatever units you like for your own personal challenge!

10k run with my local running club last night, bringing my year to date total to 41.5 miles which feels like good progress. This is going to be a slightly lower mileage week as I have a race coming up on Sunday so don't want to over do it beforehand.

rrhuth · 12/01/2022 22:22

Just 2 miles today, 44 miles TTD.

Was impressed I left the house today, just one of those days where I couldn't be bothered!

rrhuth · 13/01/2022 12:06

5 miles today, 49 miles TTD

CardiCorgi · 13/01/2022 13:08

Can I join in, please? Last year I managed 1015m according to Strava, but I need to dismiss about 300km as they were downhill skiing which doesn’t really count as it’s gravity doing the work.

This year is off to a bad start with a niggling ankle, plus DH has broken his leg, so I’m doing everything at home. Sympathetic encouragement is very much appreciated. Goal for the year is to rehab the ankle and see what it will put up with in the way of rowing, running and Nordic skiing.

So far, walk: 2 km (got the cable car up a mountain and enjoyed the snow at the top)
Ice skate: 1.5 km

Total: 3.5 km

ErrolTheDragon · 13/01/2022 14:33

Welcome CardiCorgi - ah, that sounds like difficult circumstances so whatever you can do is great. 300km downhill skiing sounds pretty awesome to me! Whereabouts do you live?

For me, 8km around local park and adjacent canal towpath.

93 km walked.
15km rowed

Thanks. I’m in Munich, so depending on snow conditions I can zip off to the south and do a cross-country ski session before a late work start.
Not tomorrow though, DH needs waiting on.

Are you an indoor rower or both? I’m also trying to motivate myself to get on my erg again since running seems to be out.

StEval · 13/01/2022 20:25

Adding 26 Km walking this week
Plus 19 = 45km so far

ErrolTheDragon · 13/01/2022 23:54

Just indoor rowing, unfortunately - I love messing about in boats but don't get the chance to nowadays. I couldn't motivate myself to do it in the second half of last year, starting this thread helped get me out of that rut...for now at least.

8.5 at the WWT reserve

101.5 km walked.

Beautiful sunny, frosty run this morning.
8.6km
Total 51.1km

rrhuth · 14/01/2022 19:28

Only 2 miles again, so 51 TTD.

I am looking forward to the later nights because it is tricky to fit into daylight at the moment!

I am however getting better at planning it into my day. The pandemic has been dreadful for my general movement as I used to do lots of walking associated with commuting, socialising and errands, all of which just stopped.

Jumbojem · 14/01/2022 19:55

Rubbish week so far here, not been feeling great.
Hope to get some runs in over the weekend. So far a couple of 2 mile walks and a 3 mile run today. Strava says I'm already 14 miles behind my year goal. Bit depressing when we're only 14 days in!
I agree @rrhuth the lighter eves will make things easier. I scrolled back to 2020 (to see what I was doing while Boris was having his cheese and wine) and I was walking or running every day as the weather was so glorious (and obv there wasn't much else to do in lockdown I guess).

ErrolTheDragon · 14/01/2022 20:21

It can be hard at this time of year. I'm fortunate to work part time, flexible hours so I can pick my walk times according to the weather and within daylight, which helps enormously.

I used to walk or cycle into the office which meant that even if I hadn’t done any vigorous sport , I would have had plenty of movement, so I agree, home office does not always help.

Anyway, I abandoned DH on the sofa and went off for a cross-country ski this afternoon. Sun, snow and a bit of head space. 19km
Total: 22.5 km

Zampa · 14/01/2022 23:33

It doesn't feel like I've done a great deal this year to date so just checking in to assess where I am ...

16km bike
5km indoor row
22km mixture of walking (purposefully), running and treadmill

Planning on 5km X 2 this weekend so maybe not as bad as I was thinking but need to up my game!

Startagaintoday · 15/01/2022 05:38

Week 2 27 miles. So 72 so far. Worked extra this week though so less time and cold and dark.🚶🚶🚶

ErrolTheDragon · 15/01/2022 14:51

8.5km up at an AONB - estuary/bay/cliff top, some fantastic views. The water was like a millpond, and the lack of wind meant it didn't feel as cold as I expected.

110 km walked.
15km rowed

Forestcantrun · 15/01/2022 20:14

Can I join please! I was on track to 900km running last year but then got obliterated by covid in Nov.. This year I'm aiming for 1200km. I'm up to 48km for the first fortnight of the year and am very pleased to be coming back to life!

ErrolTheDragon · 15/01/2022 23:36

Great start, welcome!

rrhuth · 16/01/2022 13:15

Sat: 1 mile Sad
Sun: 6.5 miles [happy]

58.5 miles walked so far

My walk today was brilliant, and I am walking with no music so that I can just think clearly, and the time alone with my thoughts is really helping the stress-busting aspect of it. I got home much happier than I set off.

rrhuth · 16/01/2022 13:15

UnaOfStormhold · 16/01/2022 15:34

Slightly lighter mileage week as I had a 10k race today, but still up to 53 miles run so far this year.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/01/2022 15:46

That's good.Smile I usually walk with DH, but much of it in companionable silence. I like being able to hear the sounds around me, especially birds - often heard before (or instead of) seen.

A different estuary today, and another section of the bay - along a sea dyke with salt marsh and mudflats so lots of birds. 10.8 km

The various outdoors forms of exercise , whether in urban, rural or coastal settings, can be great for appreciating nature. There's another thread here you're all most welcome to join https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/thegreatt_outdoors/4441745-nature-notes-the-2022-edition Smile

120.8 km walked.
15km rowed

Managed to do my 2 5k runs this weekend so quite pleased. I'd forgotten the pleasurable feeling of being physically tired after exercise. The pandemic just created mental exhaustion tbh.

Well done everyone on some cracking efforts.
