Does anyone fancy a C25K thread, starting on 2nd or 3rd Jan?

I'd love to get back into running now that I've fully recovered from an injury. No one I know wants to do it with me Grin so I think I'll download C25K and start in Jan.

Anyone know which is the best app? Last time I tried, the app kept getting ads on it which wrecked the timings. I want to avoid that if possible.

Any takers?

I’ve done week 6 run 2 this morning and it was great. I had a slower, longer warm up walk with dh and then went off on my own for the rest of it. I was surprised the ten minute blocks went really quickly and I definitely could have kept going. I guess that’s the idea! The next one is twenty five minutes and I’m feeling confident.

I like my Fitbit for seeing how far and fast I’ve gone but I’ve managed to disentangle doing well from going quickly. That’s taken a while. I can totally understand ditching strava if it’s not helpful.

I’ve never got on with park run, partly because I really like running on my own and partly because the ones I’ve been to have been fast, competitive and hilly! I know lots of people that love them so it might just be me!

Well done for everyone keeping going. I’m behind the three runs a week pace but holding on to it’s a marathon not a sprint-literally!

@Jfw82 @PurpleDaisies thank you for the advice re Strava- I'll keep it for the time being and see how I feel!
I have a park run a 5 minute walk down the road from me so that's kind of what I'm aiming for. But not for a while!

rubymaster · 23/01/2022 22:11

I did my last run of week 3 this morning. Keep it up everyone!

Jfw82 · 24/01/2022 13:28

I've done W4R2 and it felt hard though the first 5 mins were harder than the second (I guess as I knew with the second lot that was the last of it!) if it feels same with the next run then I might repeat before moving to W5 as I know first couple of week 5 no worse but can't imagine being able to do W5R3 by end of next week!

hivemindneeded · 24/01/2022 14:00

Hi everyone, I know I started this thread but I'm bowing out. I have a chest infection and won't be running for a while. Hope you all stick at it and do really well.

Hello everyone, am I late to join?
I've been doing couch to 5k for a few weeks now. I've got a 5 month old baby so can't always manage all three runs in one week but I'm getting through it. Just finished week 3 run 1 this morning.
I used to run pre baby and swam all through my pregnancy but waited til 4 months postpartum to do this as I had a c section.
I'm also on Strava if anyone uses that? My name is Alexis Wolf and my profile photo is of a green lake (there are several people on there with my name).

Oh that sounds utterly rotten. Wishing you a speedy recovery. You’re absolutely doing the tight thing by prioritising getting well. Flowers

All are welcome here @WolfMother326! There are lots of us at different stages. Congratulations on your run today. I’m not on strava but hope you find some buddies.

I’ve just completed week 6 and claim my rosette. 25 minutes. Boom. I’ve now got a good route for the big end of the week run which is mainly (gentle) uphill on the way so downhill on the way back. I need that extra help to get to the end! I was surprised (again) that it wasn’t too bad and I can see covering 5k might actually be possible by the end of week nine. Roll on week 7 on Wednesday!

I hate the first five minutes with a passion. Every singe run and it hasn’t got better. I’ve found the big difference now is once I’m going it’s much easier to keep going. There’s no rush to move on though. I’m not managing three runs a week so will be behind the official schedule too!
heywhatswrongwitu · 24/01/2022 15:32

@hivemindneeded that's so frustrating, hope you're looking after yourself and better soon.

I managed to get blisters on a walk yesterday so won't be running this week. I'll go on the towing machine instead and hope to catch up next week.

TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 24/01/2022 17:25

@Jfw82 i did W5R3 and surprised myself - I was fully expecting to stop half way (had given myself permission to walk if I couldn't do it) but managed it.

Hdkatznahtw125sgh · 25/01/2022 09:49

Could I join please

I’m on W7 on C25k and have signed up for the Great Scottish Run (half marathon - v ambitious for me) on 2nd Oct - was supposed to be the Great North Run but something came up. I’m also doing the Alnwick trail 10K in May and on the look out for other 5 and 10ks to do to build myself up to the HM.

I’m not particularly fast but I’m just enjoying the exercise

Thanks to @PurpleDaisies for telling me about this thread

Congratulations on completing week 5! I was the same with the longer run. It’s so great to get to the end when you’re not sure you can.

Welcome @Hdkatznahtw125sgh! I’m also starting week 7. Rest day today and hopefully out there tomorrow. I’m toying with signing up for a local 10K in September, not that I can actually run 5k yet!

rubymaster · 25/01/2022 22:21

W4R1 completed today, keep it up everyone. Sorry to hear about your chest infection @hivemindneeded, hope you get better soon!

Jfw82 · 26/01/2022 21:31

@PurpleDaisies I've finished w4 today the dreaded w5 ahead. I don't take water with me so far do you carry a drink with you?

PurpleDaisies · 26/01/2022 21:43

Congratulations @Jfw82. I don’t bother with taking a drink at the moment but maybe when it gets hotter, or I run further, I will. It’s been ok to just have a big drink when I get in. Week 5 looks scary on paper but you might be pleasantly surprised with it.

Well done with the start of week 4 too @rubymaster and hope run 2 is a good one.

I’ve picked up a stomach bug so I haven’t been outside the house and the only running I’ve done is to the loo. I think I’ve set a personal best for speed. I’m feeling seriously rotten and can’t keep anything down yet so I think it will be a couple of days at least before I’m back out running again. I’ll probably repeat an earlier one instead of going straight in to the three 25min week 7 ones.

rubymaster · 27/01/2022 15:03

W4R2 done this morning. Thanks @PurpleDaisies it was a good one I’ve been modifying the Week 4 runs slightly and just kept on running a bit longer when I’m supposed to be walking just in preparation for Week 5. It seems like a big jump 😅. Good luck everyone and keep it up!

TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 27/01/2022 18:59

I know what you mean about week5 seemingly like a big step up, but just give it a go. I was convinced I wouldn't be able to do w5r3 and actually it was OK. I did w6r2 last night and actually found myself surprised it was time to start walking at the end. I'm going to have to go a little further before I turn around and come back - still really slow but I don't care!

Jfw82 · 28/01/2022 18:20

@PurpleDaisies hope you're feeling better
Week 5 R1 done and was not bad! I'm trying to to think ahead to run 4 but pleasantly surprised how today's run went.

Keep up the momentum everyone Smile

PurpleDaisies · 28/01/2022 18:34

Thanks @Jfw82. Much improved but I’m still very tired. I haven’t been out yet. Hopefully dh and I will go for a late walk later and I might try w7r1 very slowly tomorrow.

Well done to everyone for keeping at it!

heywhatswrongwitu · 29/01/2022 10:08

I've finally done W3R2.. hard after a week out but I did it armed with my compeed plasters!

PurpleDaisies · 29/01/2022 11:42

Well done for getting back on it @heywhatswrongwitu. I’ve been for the first time in a bit too-w7r1 and although I’d decided if I was struggling, I’d stop, I did the full thing. It felt really hard in the wind and rain but I did feel like a proper hero for being out. Annoyingly, I forgot to start my Fitbit at the beginning and only noticed when I looked to see how amazingly slow I was going but it meant I recorded a time period of 36mins and 5.2k including about ten minutes of slow cool down walking which I was really pleased with. The best bit this morning I really noticed how I’m enjoying listening to the music rather than thinking about running. This is a huge change since the early weeks.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

heywhatswrongwitu · 29/01/2022 23:03

We'll done to you too @PurpleDaisies!

TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 30/01/2022 16:53

W6R3 for me today - slightly dreaming it (probably should have done it yesterday). I'm cold and I don't want to have to go and get dressed to go outside.... I always run in the dark so I've been waiting for that too... procrastination....

rubymaster · 30/01/2022 23:55

Final run of week 4 done this evening! I feel like I could run for longer in that I’m not out of breath but my legs are definitely getting tired before my lungs. Anyone similar? Trying to do more stretching before hand to see if it helps.

TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 31/01/2022 07:35

@rubymaster yes I had exactly the same - I'd start and within 30 seconds my legs were lead.

Bizarrely for me, week5 that just stopped and I found I could run further than I thought. Not fast though!!
