Ah but you get a 5 minute walk after the 8 minutes Haggis as your reward!!
You'll be able to do it if you pace yourself. Not sure if you listen to music but I found it helped in advance if I planned my songs so I could think, when dying, that I just needed to make it to the end of this song - rather than clock watching.
Good luck for when you do it!

BIWI · 18/04/2021 16:40

It sounds very cultish to keep saying it, but 'trust the programme' @Haggisfish - it really does work!

fellrunner85 · 18/04/2021 16:42

@redcandlelight - tell your DH I run on hills a lot and I can't even imagine how you would start to use your whole foot Grin wouldn't you fall over backwards?!

On properly steep hills, like when you're fell running, I take light little steps on my forefoot. The idea is fast feet, lots of little steps, to get up. Unless it's on a very long run of course (ie a fell marathon or ultra) when you walk up the hills as that's when you eat! Smile

redcandlelight · 18/04/2021 16:58

thanks fellrunner I was also trying to picture what he explained Confused
his approach might work on a long/slow incline though.

@redcandlelight I think someone who is very supple could put their whole foot down on a lot of slopes, I definitely can't!

Today I was walking the up the early and steeper hills as my calves were tight after a week of hillwalking (but warmed up) but normally I start fairly mid foot then transition to toes/little steps as it gets steeper. Main thing for me is to keep head and hips up and not lean forwards.

Shopgirl1 · 18/04/2021 20:46

W8 R2 completed this evening. I’m getting scared about graduating and running without Laura in the future. I’ve signed up for a half marathon in October though so that should give me the motivation to keep going!!

BIWI · 18/04/2021 20:55

Wow! That's a serious commitment!

KarmaViolet · 18/04/2021 22:43

Argh Shopgirl me too (late September). I'm aiming to run the whole thing but as a back-up plan, if I run the first 10k and walk the second then that will do. The one I've signed up for has a reputation for being very newbie-friendly and some people walk all of it.

As an aside WHY do I do this - I find something I enjoy and then instead of enjoying it for years, I beast myself until I hate it and never want to do it again! I'm hoping that this won't be the case for running, but based on past experience..... Blush

EmmaStone · 19/04/2021 12:22

Just wanted to thank you all. Whenever I'm struggling to get myself out the door, I read some of this thread and it gets me up and my trainers on. I've done C25k many (many) times, I'm not a natural runner, and don't particularly enjoy it, BUT I like the results, and the ease (I do love being on holiday and going for a jog in the new local area - particular fond memories include Barcelona and NYC). And more than anything, I like knowing I can do it!

So the last time I completed C25k was last summer, I did it with my DS13 to try and get some fitness into him. He did brilliantly, and we were trying to improve our pace, but then school started back, and the days got shorter and he stopped. I've always done the odd run here and there, and have started up more regular runs again, and can still knock out a slow 5k fairly comfortably. I'm now trying to slightly increase my distance. I help organise a local 10k race, which this year will be a mix of real and virtual. I'll run the virtual race, and have also entered the Guinness World record attempt at the most people running 10k in a single day (free to enter unless you want a medal!), 19 September. Going to try to run it all if I can improve my training, plenty of time!

Anyway, I was prattling about on MN this morning, really needed to do some exercise, and reading this thread got me out for a half hour run, thanks to all your inspiring stories and determination!

Shopgirl1 · 19/04/2021 19:59

@KarmaViolet that’s great, good luck with the training! I’m thinking along the same lines, I’ll run 10km at least, but really I want to run the full thing to show myself I can do it. I’m aiming to work up to 10km throughout May and June and then build up again to about 18 or 19km over July, August and to mid September.
C25k has really showed me I can run, albeit slowly, I’m so amazed at progress over the last 8 weeks, feeling hopeful i have a half marathon in me too.

Alleycat12 · 19/04/2021 20:39

Hello, I have started the c25k but struggling with where to keep my phone. I have an armband holder but it's either too wight or too loose. Can anyone recommend anything else to hold their phone whilst running? Thank you

BIWI · 19/04/2021 20:43

@Alleycat12. I use one of these

It's lightweight and holds my phone, car keys, handy pack of tissues and lip balm.

WhereAreWeNow · 19/04/2021 20:46

@Alleycat12 I got a £5 running belt thing. Fits phone and keys. You can find them on Amazon or ebay.
I also have some leggings with pockets. I love them and want to get more. Pockets on the thigh big enough for a phone and a little key pocket on the waistband too.

Alleycat12 · 19/04/2021 20:50

Thank you both for the suggestions, I'll check them out!

redcandlelight · 19/04/2021 21:04

I find my phone too heavy for a belt. and my leggings go south if I put it in the side pocket Blush

W8R2 done today. Harder than run 1 for some reason, but I did it.

Shopgirl1 · 19/04/2021 21:19

Do any of you carry water when running? I don’t, no where to leave it. Wondering if I should when running for 30 minutes? Usually just have a glass of water before I set out and about a litre when I get home.

randomsabreuse · 19/04/2021 21:19

Yeah phone in thigh pocket always seems like a good idea then I spend half the run booking them up! Bum pocket not so bad...

I use the back pocket of my Aldi running gilets or my Aldi cycling jacket (winter only) for phone with key in leggings pocket. Or I have a decathlon running backpack/vest thingy from when I was coming back from my appendix and an elasticated waist belt thing. Armbands suck. Always falling down or annoyingly tight!

Shopgirl1 · 19/04/2021 21:20

Well done @BIWI! We seem to be sticking to them same schedule.

randomsabreuse · 19/04/2021 21:23

I only carry water if it's very hot and I'm planning to go out for more than an hour. In current weather I'd probably take water over 2 hours. Have a waist belt that can carry 2 little bottles and my running vest can take water in a camelback and/or a soft bottle.

I make sure I've drunk enough before going out. I do take an energy gel with me if I'm running at a meal time rather than eating but don't always need it. Also handy for a pre run boost of energy that does not make me feel ill.

Cavagirl · 19/04/2021 21:40

@Alleycat12 following recommendations on this thread I've got one of these which is great www.sportsshoes.com/product/fli12/flipbelt-classic-~-black-~-ss21/#sku-fli12

redcandlelight · 19/04/2021 21:43

so farI haven't taken water with me, but soon the public fountains will be switched on again, so that's not an issue for me.
for runs up to an hour I don't need it if I'm well hydrated before.

Evening ladies just catching up. Well done cava on your 5k time!
People that are nearing the end I definitely recommend having a plan to follow. Even if you're not planning to increase distance, it helps to set out what you're going to do each week and you can make sure you mix up your routes, add in some intervals, hills etc. I am crap without a plan.
Planning to go and do a nice off road route near me tomorrow morning, about 2.5 miles easy pace.
Oh and whoever was asking about easy pace and being able to talk- when I was working out my easy pace I was actually talking to myself as I ran along to see if I was too out of breath or not! Luckily I didn't meet anyone else at that point!!

emilyjeff · 20/04/2021 08:50

Back from my run! Absolutely loved it today, nice and cool but just starting to get sunny. Didn't see a single other person either- just me and my headphones 🙂

redcandlelight · 20/04/2021 09:03

those runs are very special emily
