it's also incline.
it's almost impossible to not run on the forefoot up or down a steep hill.
very hard on the calves and, as fellrunner describes, the toes/front of feet.

you will be fine haggis Smile

WhereAreWeNow · 17/04/2021 21:28

I'm in a fairly flat area @redcandlelight so I haven't really had to contend with many inclines.

@Haggisfish you'll surprise yourself!

Haggisfish · 17/04/2021 21:35

I hope so-I’m so chuffed so far!

Haggisfish · 17/04/2021 21:35

Jo Wiley is getting me through it!

randomsabreuse · 17/04/2021 21:48

I hate seeing myself run on video, especially easy pace, but it did flag that I wasn't quite moving straight when I thought I was, so I've been checking that.

I'm finding it tough to locate an easy pace that agrees with both my cardio system and my legs. The pace that feels "easy" and relaxed has my heart rate up in zone 4, going slower requires constant reminders to slow down. My planned half marathon goal pace isn't instinctive either.

Mostly been hillwalking this week as DH has been off so I've skipped one of my planned runs (cadence workout) as I'm stiff and sore after taking advantage of easing lockdown to do a couple of "big" walks - a d the kids are a lot quicker than me downhill because I am a wuss and my knees hurt from slowing down on every step!

Shopgirl1 · 18/04/2021 09:37

My husband brought my kids to the park yesterday when I was running there. My son has since told me I’m not running properly, he wouldn’t call it jogging exactly he said! Maybe I need to video myself! In fairness, he is probably right, he is 7 and I can’t catch him he is so fast.

Oneborneverydecade · 18/04/2021 10:31

I ran 25 mins on Fri without stopping and was still able to talk in the final couple of minutes. Amazing. This last week has been the first time I've actually felt I can and will get to 5k.
I don't wear headphones as I run with DH but I do wish I couldn't hear my breathing. I'm conscious of when it begins to become laboured.
I've lost 4.5st since Aug (thanks @biwi) and now I'm running, I don't know who I am Grin
Have a great Sunday everyone

BIWI · 18/04/2021 10:42

Very impressed @Oneborneverydecade! I run alone so have no idea if I could manage talking by the end of it!

BobVance · 18/04/2021 10:43

Wow that’s amazing oneborn ! Great inspiration. I am 1.5st done since January and want to lose another 3 or so.

WhereAreWeNow · 18/04/2021 10:50

That's amazing @Oneborneverydecade.

My run wasn't as good this morning. I don't know why not. I did 5.5k and it was beautiful and sunny but for some reason I just couldn't manage the pace of recent runs and it all felt quite difficult. It's funny how some runs are just harder.

Cavagirl · 18/04/2021 11:59

I DID IT!!!!!
29 mins 21!!!!
Can't bloody believe that!

I was dying the whole way round and I had a voice in my head telling me I was being too slow, it really was a mental battle and at the end I really thought I'd done it slower than last time because it was such hard work (clearly no logic there but that's what I thought!)

@fellrunner85 thank you so much for your tips, I don't think I'd have had the confidence to push myself as hard without you and everyone else's encouragement on this thread.

Seriously 6 months ago I was looking at the extra 30 second intervals on week 2 and worrying I'd have to stop.

redcandlelight · 18/04/2021 12:06

wow cava very impressive!

Cavagirl · 18/04/2021 12:12

Thanks red Grin
I'm chuffed to bits! Did it all wrong as my first mile was a PB so definitely not following fellrunner's instructions there oops. I don't care though Grin

Shopgirl1 · 18/04/2021 13:08

@Cavagirl brilliant! Well done.

BIWI · 18/04/2021 13:40

Fantastic! Really well done Flowers

teaandbiscuitsforme · 18/04/2021 13:44

Amazing cava!!! Can't imagine ever going that quickly!

Completed W9R2 this morning. Is it stupid that I'm getting the fear that I've almost done this rather than feeling celebratory?! I need to sort what I'm going to do next. I know I'll stress without a plan and something to follow!

For anybody reading who is thinking of trying C25K, this is my third time trying the program (various reasons why I've not completed before). I'm very overweight, incredibly unfit and terrified of exercise because I've always felt I can't do it. If you can commit to running 3 times a week, you will definitely be able to do this. The program does work!

EmilyDickinson · 18/04/2021 14:19

Congratulations oneborn and cava you’re brilliant!
I was intending to run this weekend but I’m still getting occasional back pain so I’m being cautious. I’m doing quite a bit of walking and cycling though so hoping to maintain fitness until I feel I can run again without risking injury. I completed the C25K recently so as long as I’m still able to run 5k when I want to, in particular when Park Run restarts, I don’t mind too much

randomsabreuse · 18/04/2021 14:24

Well done @Cavagirl . Nice one!

I'm just back from my long run this week. Was going to do the minimum on my plan but found a nice route and the longer path was more appealing (aka flatter) than the direct route. Found a nice old railway line with links to the busy canal path which will be good for future runs as well.

I totally get the plan finishing fear - I'm a total box ticker so I went from my sub 30 5k plan to the half marathon plan with about 4 days in between although I did put in a long target date to get some recovery time!

BobVance · 18/04/2021 15:07

Amazing work, well done @Cavagirl!!

fellrunner85 · 18/04/2021 15:15

Oh my GOODNESS @Cavagirl that's incredible!! I knew you had a 29:30 in you but 29:21 is just amazing. Wow wow wow!!!

Cavagirl · 18/04/2021 15:38

Thanks everyone Grin
Trying desperately to avoid sitting down on the sofa as I think I'll struggle to get back up if I do!!

Well done @teaandbiscuitsforme ! Nearly there now!!!

WhereAreWeNow · 18/04/2021 15:39

Well done @Cavagirl!

@teaandbiscuitsforme I was really worried about losing motivation once I finished C25k too. But that was over a month ago and I'm still going! I found the NHS stepping stones podcasts quite helpful and I've got more into setting myself little targets. First target was actually run 5k (I think I was probably running about 4.5k by the end of the programme. Then it was to run 6k. Then it was to run 5k in less than 30 mins. To be honest, I'm not sure what my next goal is now I've achieved those. I don't want to run much longer distances and I don't know how fast I can realistically aim to be. Maybe the next goal is 6k in under 35mins. The main thing is to find what motivates you and stick with it.

redcandlelight · 18/04/2021 15:46

I have a question about hills.
dh had a little discussion talk about out routes. dh trains for a triathlon. he is strickly a flat route runner as he doesn't want to risk injury in training.
he says I'm doing hills all wrong. he says you should try to run from the bottom and to always use the whole foot. on the ground when pushing up for the next step.
I say that's impossible on a steep incline and I tippy toe up.
maybe fellrunner can help me. it's a 9m incline, steps would not be out of place, so quite steep.

Brilliant @Cavagirl and @Oneborneverydecade!! I’m taking a day off today as my knees hurt and I did a big workout yesterday. Am also quite dreading trying the eight minute run...feels a big step up from five minutes (which I’ve found hard!).
