I did W7 R3 this morning. I’m going to do another W7 run on Thursday to keep in line with progressing one week at a time, starting Saturday or Sundays. Isn’t it amazing how quick the body adapts, still in shock I’ve ran that long four times now. Really love C25k, should have tried it years ago!

BIWI · 13/04/2021 15:24

I'm at the same stage as you, @Shopgirl1 (W7R3 tomorrow) but I wish I could say I was enjoying it. Enduring it is a better word for me.

I keep hoping a switch will flick and I'll suddenly find I love running.

Shopgirl1 · 13/04/2021 15:28

@BIWI I’ve really found it useful to focus on getting into a comfortable rhythm and once I do that and manage my breathing, my legs just keep going. I’m not worried about speed at all at the moment, just building endurance and keeping going.
I’ll probably jinx myself now and struggle on Thursday!

EmilyDickinson · 13/04/2021 15:33

Wow shopgirl you’re making great progress. It is amazing how you go from panting and puffing through a 90 second run to being able to run for 25 or more minutes straight in just a few weeks isn’t it?

Though my running is neither elegant nor effortless I now know that I can run for 5k and no longer start a run wondering whether I can finish it.

EmilyDickinson · 13/04/2021 15:35

I know what you mean about the comfortable rhythm. I used to listen to music and calculate how many songs I’d need to run for, basically willing the run to finish. Now I put on a pod cast and just run the distance. I’m doing a park run course that I know is 5k

Iampicklerick · 13/04/2021 17:34

Hello I’m new to the thread, I just wanted some people to share with.

I ran w7r1 today and I sprinted the last minute, whilst semi crying with pride. It was my fastest run yet at 13.30 per mile - not great but last week I was 15 so I’ll take that! Distance needs work, just 3km but oh my I am just so pleased I finished!!!

Well done to you all so far, it’s been such a journey. I bought some leopard print leggings to celebrate!

redcandlelight · 13/04/2021 17:40

welcome pickle and very well done!

looks like there are quite a few here close to graduating.

Well done Pickle!

Iampicklerick · 13/04/2021 19:37

Thank you!

I just cannot believe that just 7 weeks ago I was huffing and puffing after just a minute and now here I am (I’m sure everyone says this because that’s exactly what the programme is designed to do!) I have never been a runner. Always swimming or cycling because it was just so much easier. I was always picked last in PE. It feels such an achievement and I really hope I can keep going to graduate (and beyond!)

teaandbiscuitsforme · 13/04/2021 20:34

Well done Pickle! I love the progress you can make with C25K too!

Shopgirl1 · 14/04/2021 07:01

Well done @Iampicklerick and welcome!

schoolcook · 14/04/2021 07:16

I didn't feel the love for running until week 9 and all of a sudden something clicked and now I absolutely love it.

She says lying in bed having rescheduled today's run for tomorrow because I'm so tired and hungry and not feeling it at all Grin

Italianmeringuebuttercream · 14/04/2021 08:55

Wow you guys! Well done to you all. We have a change of scenery this week, did wk2 run2 along the beach (path not sand) yesterday and it was lovely. Ds actually managed to do the whole thing without stopping! Hoping for another good run tomorrow....

BIWI · 14/04/2021 09:04

Welcome @Iampicklerick, and like everyone else has said, well done!

redcandlelight · 14/04/2021 09:07

very good italian
running on the beach is my plan for the summer. but I first need to get better at hills to get over the dunes. plus some running on sand as that is bloody hard.

A bit late to the party but after stalking this thread for a while, I did my first run of C25K this morning! I get so embarrassed doing it in public but I found a relatively quiet field down the road after the school run and just got on with it. I actually quite enjoyed it and was sad when it was over! I’m guessing that feeling won’t last long though.

redcandlelight · 14/04/2021 11:42

welcome rain
the first couple of weeks are the hardest, but it's great you have taken the first steps.
yes it's a bit daunting at first, but everyone had to start somewhere.

@redcandlelight thanks I'm in danger of being obsessive over things so I'm just glad to be able to know when I'm not up to it.

BobVance · 14/04/2021 13:44

Welcome Pickle and Rain and well done to you and everyone on all the running. Glad to hear things are feeling better Random!

I love seeing everyone say the same thing about how they can’t believe they can run for 20/25/30 mins after just a few weeks because it is SO TRUE - it really is amazing how quickly we can adapt with a structured training programme!

I’ve just come back from W9R1. For anyone paying close attention you may noticed I skipped week 8...! That was at my PT’s suggestion as I was so keen to graduate this week ahead of going on holiday next week. I worried I wouldn’t find time to run and I’d lose all momentum.

Two more runs and I’ll be done Grin

BIWI · 14/04/2021 13:55

I've just finished week 7. I did realise that even though I was waiting/willing on the end 'announcement' to come, that I could, if I had to, run a bit more. So that bodes well for next week.

I just wish the first few minutes weren't so hard! Each time I set off I think I'm never going to make it to the end.

WhereAreWeNow · 14/04/2021 14:12

I've missed a few dates on here. So much to catch up with. Well done to all of you making great progress. Welcome @RAINSh0wers. I feel self conscious running too and feel much better doing it early in the morning when there's hardly anyone around.

I went for a 6km run this morning and it felt really good. Sun was shining (sort of) and there weren't many people about.

Yesterday I went to a running shop for gait analysis and new shoes. I ended up getting a newer version of the same model but not before trying on 10 other pairs! It makes such a difference though. I can really feel the difference in cushioning. My old shoes had been rubbing my feet so it was a joy to run this morning with no sore feet! I highly recommend getting gait analysis at a specialist shop and getting some good shoes to anyone who wants to stick at running. It really makes such a difference.

BobVance · 14/04/2021 16:30

Good to hear Whereweare. It’s definitely on my list of things to do. I do like my current Brooks but I think they are a half size too small. They were so expensive though so I’m not sure I’m ready to trade them in Sad

WhereAreWeNow · 14/04/2021 17:51

@BobVance mine are Brooks too. I love them. But you definitely need to size up for running shoes. My usual size is 6/6.5 but my running shoes are a 7.
Can you keep an eye out for cheaper ones on outlet sites? There were some nice New Balance running shoes in T K Maxx today.

BobVance · 14/04/2021 18:22

@WhereAreWeNow well I think half the problem is I don’t really have a clue what my shoe size is. I’m usually a 5 but down to a 4.5 if it’s a wide fitting shoe but sometimes up to a 6 if it’s not. I’m usually a 5 for trainers and my Brooks are 5.5, but the trouble is I got them before I had DD and I think my feet swelled so much they never returned to their normal size.

I actually got some New Balance trainers today which I had ring fenced for PT and bootcamp rather than running, but I couldn’t resist wearing them for my run earlier and they were great! I had read online they tended to size small so I got a 6 and they are a good fit.
