Wow! I can't imagine being able to run for that long. Much respect @randomsabreuse!

redcandlelight · 11/04/2021 17:17

110 minutes is a lot more than I can currently imagjne. I'm happy when I run 45 min at the moment.

Thanks! I've been building up since just before Christmas and vaguely running since September. Plus we do a lot of walking as a family and the kids have got fast!

When you can get into a nice steady rhythm it's really easy to keep going, not possible if I don't find the rhythm.

The main thing is to have no pressure to go faster than that comfortable pace - for me this is more than 2 minutes a mile slower than my 5k pace.

Shopgirl1 · 12/04/2021 07:34

W7 R2 done. Can’t believe I’ve ran for 25 minutes three times now, so it’s not a fluke, I can actually do it!

teaandbiscuitsforme · 12/04/2021 10:56

Well done Shopgirl!

Just completed W8R3 - can't believe I'm on to W9! I actually ran the the cool down as well so 33 mins today. I still feel so slow though!!

Thinking about clothes today. I normally run in a longline vest to cover the wobbly bottom with a top over the top. Obviously when it gets warmer I can't run in two layers so has anybody seen any long tops with short sleeves?

redcandlelight · 12/04/2021 11:02

tea have a look at the cycling section. those are usually longer and more flattering imo.

Thanks for the tip red candle!

Haggisfish · 12/04/2021 11:17

Well done everyone!

That is so good! I'm only on week 4, so just doing 5 minute runs at the moment. I can't see myself being able to run for 25 minutes though 🙈

I know! isn't that great? you go from not able to run for a bus to enjoying (sort of!) running in a few short weeks.

Also just done W7R2. A bit warmer than on Saturday, but still hard work!

BobVance · 12/04/2021 16:52

Afternoon all. No running for me since Thursday as I had PT on Friday and Bootcamp on Saturday so I usually give myself Sunday off!

I planned to go out earlier during 19m old DD’s nap but she ended up refusing that one after having an accidental car snooze on the way to swimming this morning so I think I’m going to have to go out this evening as I really want to squeeze in a run today.

We are having dinner at about 5:45, I’ll only be having a light meal. Does anyone else run after their evening meal? Do you reckon I’ll be okay going at about 7pm? I never run in the evenings Confused

redcandlelight · 12/04/2021 16:57

I have to wait a bit (couple of hours) after eating or I get stitches and/or runner's trot.

OP posts:
fellrunner85 · 12/04/2021 17:10

I'd wait and have my tea when I get back. There's no way I can run so soon after a meal; I throw up!

randomsabreuse · 12/04/2021 17:27

I'm ok for a steady run if I leave an hour after I've finished, but definitely don't cope eating before speed work.

Wasn't supposed to run today (rest day) and went for a walk up a hill with DH and the kids but spotted an opportunity for a bit of peace and a short run to the next parking spot along at the end of our route so did 1.68 miles along a nice forestry track. Walked/interval jogged up the up bits and jogged the rest as it was supposed to be a rest day (21k steps today). Also had a few runs with my 5yo on her bike as I helped DH get her and bike to the old railway line for a little bike ride (the non tow/bike seat capable bike is being mended or I'd be with them - can no longer keep up with 5yo jogging if she's biking!!)

longlivetheking · 12/04/2021 17:29

Well done @BIWI @Shopgirl1 @teaandbiscuitsforme
I’m still sidelined - ankle so sore so lots of RICE before I can start W8 which I’m gutted about

Shopgirl1 · 12/04/2021 19:01

@Runiper, trust the programme, it’s amazing, you will be able to do it!
@redcandlelight exactly, I couldn’t run to the end of the street 8 weeks ago, now I’m looking forward to my next 25 minute run.
Still can’t catch my 7 year old son when he runs away though!

BIWI · 12/04/2021 21:52

@Runiper - you will, honestly! It's such a great programme and your stamina really does build between each day/run.

Oneborneverydecade · 13/04/2021 08:36

First run in my new trainers yesterday. Week 6 run 1 and it was fine, helped by the last 5 mins being half downhill.
I run in the evenings, more than an hour after eating and haven't noticed any problems.
Next run is 2x10 mins Confused

Talksunderwater · 13/04/2021 09:02

@Runiper - I had never run before and was certain I wouldn’t be able to finish the programme and expected to fail each run - but to my total amazement I finished it. I now run 5km 3 times per week (not in 30 mins mind you Smile - it takes me 35 or 36 mins) and really delighted to be doing it. Who would have thought? You’ll be just as delighted if you keep going and trust the programme as others have said. Good luck!

Talksunderwater · 13/04/2021 09:04

Forgot to mention that I’m just back from a lovely sunny (but chilly!) run. Gorgeous morning.

Runiper · 13/04/2021 10:06

That is fantastic @Talksunderwater!
Tbh each run I do, I think that I'll probably end up doing this week for an extra week or so before I can move on... but then I find I can actually do it!

emilyjeff · 13/04/2021 12:19

Morning all. Went out for a steady 3k run earlier this morning, wanted to take it easy after my long run on Sunday and also wanted to try out my new trainers! They were OK, a little stiff and a bit more room in the toe section compared to my old ones. Might look at lacing them a different way and see if that helps.

EmilyDickinson · 13/04/2021 12:41

Just catching up after an enforced break from running due to back pain. Well done everyone.

Whenever I have a few days off it seems hard to get going again and I really had to force myself out today. It’s cold but sunny so I just wore a tee shirt and shorts as I was too hot last time. It was actually a relief not to be fiddling with a hood and zips as I warmed up and my 5k time was very slightly faster than last time. (34 minutes and a bit) I feel newly enthused for having actually got out.

Randommother · 13/04/2021 14:15

Well done on your runs everyone! Well I took the advice given here, and went to see a physio about my hip. She was great, and has given me some strengthening and stretching exercises to do. She also recommended that I tried a light run after stretching to build up again gently, so this morning I did a week 3 run. It was great getting out again! I'm going to take it really easy and build up again slowly. My hip is aching now, so I'll leave it a couple of days before I run again.
