Agree that physio is best for running injuries but I have to admit that I don't really know what chiropractors or osteopaths do. Are they similar to physio?

WhereAreWeNow · 09/04/2021 21:23

I beat my PB this morning - 5k in 29mins 30secs. Very happy with that. Pace was much steadier with each km roughly the same pace whereas usually I speed up and slow down a lot. It felt pretty good too apart from a few bits where I felt I couldn't catch my breath properly. Sun was shining and the blossom makes me smile.

WhereAreWeNow · 09/04/2021 21:24

Well done @Haggisfish. I definitely was not enjoying it in W3!

redcandlelight · 09/04/2021 21:27

I don't really know what chiropractors or osteopaths do.

I have my suspicion that they don't know either...

BobVance · 09/04/2021 21:53

Well done haggis and wherewearenow!

WhereAreWeNow · 09/04/2021 21:54

I've found the answer to my question. Physio definitely sounds like the best option! www.physis.uk.com/physiotherapy-chiropractic-or-osteopathy/

Haggisfish · 09/04/2021 21:57

@WhereAreWeNow well done! I had a few moments where I couldn’t catch my breath but I still kept going.

BIWI · 09/04/2021 22:04

@redcandlelight

I don't really know what chiropractors or osteopaths do.

I have my suspicion that they don't know either...

I think that's pretty unfair actually.

I can't vouch for chiropracters, but my osteopath (who is principal of the London School of Osteopathy) leads courses that are four years long.

I doubt, very much, that they don't know much.

BIWI · 09/04/2021 22:05

Osteopathy degree

Note that it's also recognised by the NHS

BIWI · 10/04/2021 09:37

@WhereAreWeNow that piece is amazing Grin. Hardly biased at all! Plenty of papers quoted that criticise both chiropractic and osteopathy, but none at all to either support or criticise physiotherapists!

@Randommother the other thing to consider is if you have a specialist sports therapist anywhere near you? I know at our local David Lloyd club they have a clinic there. They may be better placed to help you out, given specialists sports knowledge. (I have no idea if they're chiropractors, osteopaths or physios though!)

redcandlelight · 10/04/2021 10:43

I might be biwi the only experience I have with osteopathy was with my first born. baby had reflux and I was pressured into it by a well meaning relative.
cranial osteopathy is definitely woo.

physio helped enormously when dc had leg pains there were put down as 'growing pains' by drs. she was able to pinpoint where the pain was coming from and wrote a letter that we took to the gp and we were able to get a diagnosis and treatment due to her help.

Good run this morning - really like the cool mornings. Not sure how I’ll go in summer - I’ll probably dissolve in a puddle of sweat!

@Talksunderwater, I couldn't imagine running to mentally unwind, maybe one day... intersting username by the way - is there a story behind it? (Are you a diver?)”

@Randommother - in answer to your question, no I’m most definitely not a diver. When I was a teenager, I was so gobby that my friend’s father said I talked so much I could probably talk underwater Grin and it still amuses me.

redcandlelight · 10/04/2021 11:13

I also had a good run this morning. still cooling off with a Brew

Completed W8R2.

Does anybody use Strava off road? I'm starting to think it's maybe not that accurate? My route this morning looks completely wrong and I don't seem to have ran very far for the time! Also it seems to have decided I was only moving for 25 of the 28 mins - is that because my data signal drops out in the forest sometimes?

redcandlelight · 10/04/2021 12:08

I find strava (on my phone) very acurate. it even shows where I needed to sweeve pedestrians or dogs.
dh uses a smart watch which only recognises official routes and not the inofficial paths of which there are many here.

Cavagirl · 10/04/2021 12:08

Well done @teaandbiscuitsforme !
Yes I use strava off road. Strava is just an app using your phone's GPS. So if it's not that accurate it'll be your phone not the app.
Mine is fine but I'm not out in the sticks. There are lots posters on here with garmin watches etc if you want the real deal.

teaandbiscuitsforme · 10/04/2021 12:31

Maybe it is my phone! I have thought about a watch but I wasn't sure I was really good enough for one yet Cava!

I've been happy with it running around the lanes and in parks and places. It just seems off in this location, like it's plotting the roads but I wasn't on them! Also I can't work out why it thinks I was inactive for 3 mins when I only stopped for a couple of seconds on one lane to let a car past!

BIWI · 10/04/2021 12:31

I'm thinking of getting some tech in the form of a watch rather than using my phone - what would people advise? I bought DH a Garmin watch a while ago (he's a serious runner), but I don't really want to spend a huge amount.

Shopgirl1 · 10/04/2021 12:39

W7 R1 just completed. Amazingly felt good for the full 25 minutes of running, maybe the boost knowing I had done the same on Thursday in W6 R3 so knew I could do it. Loving this programme and running at the moment, almost sad I’m not going again tomorrow.
Does anyone know when you can start running two days in a row?

Mummyoply · 10/04/2021 13:13

W2R2 under my belt today and first run in my new running trainers and leggings. Everything felt much more comfortable - I'd previously been running in walking trousers and pumps 🤦🏼‍♀️

redcandlelight · 10/04/2021 13:33

well done saturday runners!

mummyoply proper running shoes will make a difference. your knees and shins will be very happy with you :o

Hi all, so glad I found this thread as I am definitely in need of encouragement / praise 🙈😆
I did Week 4 day 1 today and have done 5 days straight of running this week, which may or may not be frowned upon, but I'm extremely proud of myself all the same!
I've been a bit of a couch potato/ busy mum for a year and need to shift a little bit of belly wobble if possible.
This week I splashed out a bit on some new leggings and trainers (Nike Revolutions), although I'm not sure if they are the best ones for running and am feeling pretty determined for the first time in ages!

BIWI · 10/04/2021 14:08

W7R1 done. A bit easier than I was expecting, but still glad when I got to the end! Will be grateful for some warmer weather.

Mummyoply · 10/04/2021 17:07

@redcandlelight yes my knees are very pleased with me!

Does anyone know of any reasons why running 2 days in run is/isn't a good idea at my stage? (Never run before, w2r1 just completed).

I would ideally like to run on a Sat and Sun then twice Mon - Fri. 4 runs a week rather than the recommended 3. Can any seasoned runners advise if this is a ok or if I should stick to the C25K plan without deviation? I wouldn't skip ahead, I'd just do one of the weekly runs twice so I'd still be moving up the weeks every 7 days.
