I think that's my fear as well @Onedropbeat

WhereAreWeNow · 27/03/2021 23:02

I'm still doing 3 per week. I feel I need the recovery time. The last couple of weeks I've done 2x 5k runs and then 1 shorter but faster interval training run.

Talksunderwater · 28/03/2021 08:35

I tried to increase to 4 runs per week but I find my left knee needs at least a day off. I also find it hard to fit more than 3 runs into my family/work life especially as I like to go for a long walk with a friend or my kids at least once a week too.

longlivetheking · 28/03/2021 09:12

W6R3 ticked off Smile almost cried and wanted to stop at least 4 times, but I just about made it!

Randommother · 28/03/2021 09:21

Well done @longlivetheking

My only ambition at the moment is to complete the C25k. I've tried it a couple of times before and not made it past w5r1, which is tomorrow's planned run. I feel that I'm mentally far more committed to it now then I've ever been in the passed, so I'm hoping that mental attitude will be the thing that gets me through!

fellrunner85 · 28/03/2021 09:23

I couldn’t imagine running more
I struggle with pains if I don’t have a rest day
I’m still only on week 7 though

Exactly - on week 7 I never thought I'd run 5k, and certainly never imagined I'd end up running more than 3 times a week!

longlivetheking · 28/03/2021 09:30

You can do it @Randommother you sound positive and motivated - this time you’re going to do it!

BIWI · 28/03/2021 09:39

We're all here cheering you on @Randommother! Smile

redcandlelight · 28/03/2021 09:45

well done king

I need at least one day to recover after a run. especially after a long one. I prefer other exercise on the other days. I cycle and walk a lot. I do rope skipping during the lunch break.

OP posts:
BIWI · 28/03/2021 10:05

Skipping is really hard on the knees though - my osteopath told me not to do that!

randomsabreuse · 28/03/2021 10:18

4 seems to fit ok into my current life, and I need the alone time that running gives, I'm a SAHP to a 5 yo and a 2yo who are very full on! I think when parkrun restarts I'll end up doing 5 days a week.

On the days I don't run (need the recovery from impact) I really miss the quiet time away from screens, demands and 5yo chatter about random crap!

I'd like to get into swimming (have a mid life crisis urge to do a triathlon) once stuff reopens so will see how things pan out!

EmilyDickinson · 28/03/2021 11:53

Well done RandomMother I’m confident you’re going to do it this time.

This is the third (I think) time I’ve done C25K but I’ve never quite got to the end as each of the two previous times I’ve managed to pull a muscle as I’ve got to the last couple of weeks.

This time around I’m warming up more diligently, not skipping any days or weeks, making sure I alternate run days and rest days as a minimum and trying to run within my capabilities. So far so good.

I’m really looking forward to Park Run restarting. I started doing it 1st January 2020 so only got a few runs in before the first lockdown. I found that running with other people and getting my time each week gave me a lot of motivation to improve

emilyjeff · 28/03/2021 12:58

Well done everyone who's running today, its really windy out there! I ran this morning- an easy 5k. Felt really pleased that I managed to stick to my 6.30 min/km and it did make a difference, felt that I could've easily carried on and run further. So funny I'm probably the only person on here who's happy to be running slower!
Have been lacking in motivation a bit this week. Partly time of the month I think and partly I easily get bored of the routes round here. So this morning I drove about 2 mins up the road and did a new route using farm tracks and a bit of road running.
I dont know how people manage to run 6 days a week! My legs definitely need a rest day in between. But also I horse ride 3 or 4 days a week, plus dog walking so I think 3 days a week is about right for me.

schoolcook · 28/03/2021 14:07

I do 5K before work 3 days a week then a longer one at the weekend when I'm not rushing or having to get up at 5:30 to fit it in.

10K this morning- I've done this a few times now and find it fairly comfortable.

I work term time only so may well do 5 days a week over the holidays if I feel like it. I definitely feel better on run days than rest days. It seems to energise me for the day.

Well done all of you doing C25K it's so worth the effort.

Well done king! I'm planning W6R3 tomorrow... Confused
longlivetheking · 28/03/2021 15:16

Go for it @teaandbiscuitsforme!
I’d hoped it wouldn’t be as bad as it was but we’ve got another week of them for W7 so hopefully by then we’ll have them nailed Confused

BIWI · 28/03/2021 16:07

W5R2 done!

Now I have The Beast of W5R3 to look forward to Grin

I know I can do it as I've done it twice before, but it is daunting going from an 8 minute run to a 20 minute one.

longlivetheking · 28/03/2021 16:29

It is a real mental thing isn’t it @BIWI?! Such a good feeling once it’s done though!

BIWI · 28/03/2021 17:55

I remember from when I was regularly running for 30 minutes (over 7 years ago now Shock that the first ten minutes was generally the hardest, but around 10 minutes in you definitely find your stride. I'm hoping that kicks in again!

Shopgirl1 · 29/03/2021 00:16

Just found this thread, hello everyone. I’m doing couch to 5k for the first time ever at the moment, I did week 5, run 1 this morning. I found it ok, but am nervous about the rest of this week.

redcandlelight · 29/03/2021 06:08

welcome shop
well done for getting so far. good luck on your next runs

Randommother · 29/03/2021 07:26

Welcome @Shopgirl1 I've just done w5 r1 too! Good luck with w5r3 @BIWI when are you planning on doing it?

BIWI · 29/03/2021 09:17

Should be tomorrow @Randommother, but I think I'll have to go earlier than I usually do, as the weather forecast is saying it's going to be quite warm!

BobVance · 29/03/2021 14:07

Well done everyone on your runs! Love seeing everyone’s progress - and for those in the depths of scary W5 - keep going - it’s so worth it!

Welcome @Shopgirl1 Smile

Well done @longlivetheking on W6R3. Have you done yours yet @teaandbiscuitsforme ?

I’ve just come back from W6R3 myself and sat down, checked my Garmin and opened mumsnet to update you all - I love this little thread and it really helps motivate me!

In terms of how the run went - pretty well I think! I actually really enjoyed the first half - seemed to find a comfortable pace early on. I did have an unintended brief stop as I knocked one of my AirPods out of my ear but it was only the briefest of seconds and I was back on it. I had a rocky midsection though as I had a reasonably gradual but long incline to face but I made it.

The relief when Sarah told me the run was over was immense though Grin

EmilyDickinson · 29/03/2021 15:49

Well done Shopgirl1 and everyone else.

I’ve just done week 8 day 3, which was 30 minutes of continuous running, two minutes more running than last time. Those two minutes seemed to last a long time! I was very tempted to check whether I’d accidentally paused the app! It was nice to run in the sunshine and for the first time I just wore one layer and put on sunscreen. Today’s run was run for 30 minutes or 5k. 30 minutes at my slow speed is nowhere near 5k so that’s my goal now. I’m guess I’ll increase the length of my runs by 2 minutes or so each time till I get to 5k. Does that seem sensible or should I do it a bit more gradually?
