Hi everyone

I've started this thread as I couldn't add any more posts to the other one. Hopefully you all find this thread!!

Hope everyone had enjoyed their day - so bored at home right now I'm glad I have the run to look forward to. Waited till it got dark and I headed out with my new running buddy - my 11yo ds. Yes he ran ahead of me and stopped a few times so I could catch up, but we ran 4.46km in 33mins and I'm so proud of both of us! (And little dog of course who's my faithful running buddy). It was a bit drizzly tonight which was actually quite nice as it wasn't that cold so the rain cooled me off a bit.

I've been thinking of how I can improve my stride length and I wonder if I can use my rest days to do W1r1 and try to do it with much longer strides? Seeing my son running I realise how inefficient my stride is. If I can only learn to open my stride I could run much further in the same time. If I can walk tomorrow I might try that to see if I can.

Hope everyone is enjoying their runs today!

Woooo well done Dobby !
I also feel a bit like I've done an arm workout lately, I think it's because I'm consciously trying to use my arms more as someone on here suggested, so could be that?

redcandlelight · 13/01/2021 17:05

I tend to clench my hands, I think that's why I sometimes get achey arms after a long run.

great effort dobby

minipie · 13/01/2021 17:37

Well done everyone!! Especially given the weather and mud.

Well, I’ve just done w9r3 so am officially a c25k graduate! Strava says I did 5.01km so just scraped the 5k Grin not as good as the previous two runs but I’ll take it.

Love the encouragement on these threads and also the suggestions for where to go next! I think I’m going to repeat w9 for a bit to consolidate and then try some of the Nike app guided runs. I like a voice in my ear and a programme to follow.

minipie · 13/01/2021 17:38

Oh re achey arms: I’ve been getting right shoulder and arm stabby pains which at first I worried was a heart attack 😆 but turns out it’s a form of stitch? Which makes sense as it kicks in about 15 min when I feel most out of breath. Dobby could yours be that?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/01/2021 17:42

Good to I’m not alone my achy arm. Maybe I’m trying hard not to t Rex I’m doing another weird thing!

I am trying to use my arms a bit more to propel me forward. Probably clenching too....I was really trying to be faster today in the wind.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/01/2021 17:44

Well done minipie StarStar

My arms didn’t ache til I was home, then I found it hard to raise my arm. Only one side. Maybe the way the wind was blowing!!

Talksunderwater · 13/01/2021 19:57

Congratulations @minipie Star
And so quick too!

Cavagirl · 13/01/2021 19:59

Well done minipie ! Super fast!!

minipie · 13/01/2021 20:36

Thanks all! 😊

Cavagirl · 15/01/2021 13:44

W6R2 done! Didn't find it easy today, it's bloody cold out there, need to get myself some running gloves! Honestly if it wasn't for this thread and the threat of snow tomorrow I'd definitely have sacked it off, glad I didn't though.
Good luck everyone getting out there!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/01/2021 15:22

Well done cava it’s Baltic isn’t it. I wear my wooly gloves.

R6w2 today!

Seemed a hard one. Dry paths, but very grey and cold. 2deg. Managed it all and actually ran a bit longer at the end because I didn’t want to stop! It’s harder when it’s cold. I’m hoping that means I’ll be a fabulous runner in spring!

Talksunderwater · 15/01/2021 17:34

Well done @Cavagirland @DobbyTheHouseElk
I too braved the cold today and it was extremely muddy. I managed 4.5km but it was slow going jumping over/around puddles and avoiding slipping. Am hoping that my route will dry out a bit soon!

minipie · 15/01/2021 17:44

Well done all of you! Especially Talks for running in the mud - much much harder work on the legs, I have to admit I stick to pavements.

My run came a bit unstuck today - I was ten minutes in when I got a call to pick up DD (DH had taken both DDs to the park but older one needed to go home... ). I’d only just got warm as well!! Ah well. At least I went out!

Jibberoo · 15/01/2021 21:36

Hi all hope everyone is well. It's been a while since I posted but have been keeping up the runs. Well done @minipie for graduating that's awesome.

It's been rather chilling tonight -1 and super foggy. I had to take the dogs flashing collar with me to make sure cars could spot me! But I managed to get through the 5km even though I only planned to do 4. I realise I'm much happier at the 4.5km distance - that extra .5 seems to hurt me much more. I've also been really bad at stretching lately so am paying the price of sore calves and knees.

I can't wait for it to warm up a bit - I don't need much but high single figures would be amazing!!

Happy running all

W6r3 today.

Got up early as it looked like a sunny day. Went out early to avoid the crowds.

Whoop I did it. 25 mins constantly running! It felt quite tough towards the end. But I got there and did a fast 60 sec run at the end.

Felt it in my lungs for the first time.

Quite a strong crosswind this morning, the tide was in it was quiet out there and peaceful.

I’m amazed I can run for 25 mins. It’s incredible really. I must be enjoying it to go out so early on a Sunday.

I will have to create a playlist as I felt a bit lonely without Jo chatting in my ear. I needed a boost towards the end.

Cavagirl · 17/01/2021 11:11

Woohoo well done Dobby! Great stuff! Sounds lovely out there.
Super sunny in London so expect the world & his wife will be out today - I'm delaying W6R3 to tomorrow when I won't have to dodge the crowds.
Enjoy it out there today everyone!

redcandlelight · 17/01/2021 12:21

great work dobby

just back from my long weekend run.

originally planned to run 30 min, but I got carried away and got lost in the woods... so ended up with 7k in 45 min. it wasn't too crowded here, but we had snow yesterday and all paths were quite muddy.

good luck everyone on your runs!

Talksunderwater · 17/01/2021 14:42

Well done @DobbyTheHouseElk
@redcandlelight you are faster than me. I ran the furthest I’ve ever run this morning Grin - 6km. It took me 43mins and I was pleased with that. I am absolutely knackered now though!

redcandlelight · 17/01/2021 20:01

talks hope your legs have recovered now.
once it gets warmer I want to stretch myself towards the 10k.
there are some nice routes along that length but I need more stamina for that.

likeamillpond · 18/01/2021 14:15

Hi There!
I'm a newbie and have just completed W2r2, so a long way to go to catch up!
I'm using the Active C25K. Mainly because when I downloaded it I didn't realise there was an NHS one!
Anybody else using Active?
I've been reading all your posts and picked up some good tips already.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 18/01/2021 16:16

Hi, likeamillpond

I don’t know the active app. I’m sure it’s the same idea. I use the NHS/BBC app.

Well done for starting and doing so well. This is a really encouraging thread with some lovely posters. Keep running and posting you’ll get great advice and encouragement here.

minipie · 18/01/2021 17:19

Hi all! Welcome likeamillpond, and well done for starting! I think there are some other fairly recent starters too.

Impressive long runs from talks and red! I haven’t gone past the 30 minute/5k mark, but I’ve run yesterday (30 min) and today (25 min) so am pleased to be keeping it up even after I graduated. Once (if??) I start finding 30 min less of a challenge I’ll think about something further!

Dobby that’s amazing w6 is the first time your lungs are feeling it, mine were feeling it at w2 I think!! You must have good underlying fitness.

Cavagirl · 18/01/2021 17:39

Welcome likeamillpond Grin

W6R3 for me today, which wasn't the best - I'm blaming wardrobe malfunction.... I was wearing my usual trusty Nike leggings and what must be admitted was a rather old pair of pants underneath. About 5 minutes into the run I could feel said pants start to slip a bit.... waited til I was fairly certain there was no one around (probably wishful thinking) and had a good hoik back up via leggings. It was to no avail and they continued on their journey south.... at this point I realised if I was going to rectify things I'd have to stop - which I didn't want to do - and do a full actual both hands down leggings pull up of the pants, and definitely there was nowhere on the route with anywhere to hide and do that. So I carried on, I did the run with my pants hanging under my bum hoping no one could tell and would think I was wearing lovely warm chunky pants under my leggings which would explain the rather odd outline.... kept telling myself if Paula Radcliffe could run while having a wee I could manage this. At the end on the cool down there was a wall I could hide behind and pull them back up - it was bliss.
So no it wasn't my best run... pants are definitely going in the bin.

redcandlelight · 18/01/2021 17:51

waves to millpond

I definitely have my favourite running pants!
I have a pair of running leggings that are awful and won't stay up. it's an extra arm workout hoiking them up!

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 18/01/2021 19:21

Hi Millpond - you're not far ahead of me so we can be behind together. Just finished w2r1. Have discovered that the soundtrack to Hamilton is fun running music because I'm concentrating on the words rather than how long I've got to run for! Might shift my emphasis to running to be fit enough to sing along. Couch to Guns and Ships would be a hell of a challenge!
