Hi everyone

I've started this thread as I couldn't add any more posts to the other one. Hopefully you all find this thread!!

Hope everyone had enjoyed their day - so bored at home right now I'm glad I have the run to look forward to. Waited till it got dark and I headed out with my new running buddy - my 11yo ds. Yes he ran ahead of me and stopped a few times so I could catch up, but we ran 4.46km in 33mins and I'm so proud of both of us! (And little dog of course who's my faithful running buddy). It was a bit drizzly tonight which was actually quite nice as it wasn't that cold so the rain cooled me off a bit.

I've been thinking of how I can improve my stride length and I wonder if I can use my rest days to do W1r1 and try to do it with much longer strides? Seeing my son running I realise how inefficient my stride is. If I can only learn to open my stride I could run much further in the same time. If I can walk tomorrow I might try that to see if I can.

Hope everyone is enjoying their runs today!

Well I chickened out at starting W8 having not run since Monday and did a W7 run again. Was such an effort to go out but actually really enjoyed it and felt almost runner like (I overtook someone!!!!) Got my confidence back a bit and did my longest distance yet so although I felt a bit wimpy not doing the longer run it was definitely the right call for a happy outing 🙂
Hope everyone had a good run who was out there this afternoon!

Trulyatraditionalman · 30/01/2021 08:35

@likeamillpond I've completed week 4 now! Weirdly, the 3rd run felt so much harder even though it was exactly the same route and same running intervals! I'll just put it down to the end of a verrrrrry long week of teaching. How are you getting on?

Trulyatraditionalman · 30/01/2021 08:48

Just had a peek ahead to week 5 which I will be starting tomorrow (along Herne Bay seafront it anyone wants to give me a wave!). I think the first run looks easier than week 4 as the intervals are more evenn and the walks between the runs longer. Last week, having to run for 3 mins, walk for 1.5 minutes and then get straight into the 5 minute run felt like torture and really messed with my head! Did anyone else prefer week 5 to week 4?

I'm just about to do w4r2.
Will let you know when I get back Smile

How do people get the motivation to go out on a heavy rainy morning?

redcandlelight · 30/01/2021 09:46

rain is ok tbh.
you get warm and sweaty snyway when running.
the only things I avoid running are strong winds and ice and temperatures below zero.

redcandlelight · 30/01/2021 09:47

oh- and rain means less dogs about and less people.

schoolcook · 30/01/2021 09:59

I absolutely hate the rain.
I've got a treadmill but it's in one of my kids rooms so I don't often have access to it at the time I want to run.
Luckily yesterday and today I did but otherwise it's a case of grin and bear it.
I have different trainers for when it's wet so I don't have to keep washing my favourite ones.
The rain is cooling once you get a sweat on !
It's funny someone said about stopping and starting - I'm doing the C210K app and it's almost easier to keep running than it is to walk for one measly minute !
Happy running all Grin

WellJuhnelle · 30/01/2021 11:34

Have been lurking here over the last week or so and you have all inspired me so W1R1 done this morning! Was windy and freezing so I am really proud of myself that I didn’t use it as an excuse to put it off.

Managed all the runs, just got a stitch as I got to the end of the last one but I am feeling proud of myself and motivated to carry on Grin

Inastatus · 30/01/2021 11:41

I’ve just done my second run with my friend 😊 It chucked it down and we got very wet and muddy but I’m so chuffed with us both! Just going to have a hot soaky bath.

Inastatus · 30/01/2021 11:42

Well done @WellJuhnelle. We can do this!

likeamillpond · 30/01/2021 11:45

Don't over think it. I just chuck stuff on and do it.

It helps I don't have a treadmill!Grin

likeamillpond · 30/01/2021 11:49

Schoolcooik
I have the c210k app downloaded onto my phone ready for when I've completed c25k.
I bought the Active version.

It's been on my phone gathering dust for about 5vyears !
I'm hoping to finally get round to doing it.

likeamillpond · 30/01/2021 11:58

Trulyatraditionalman
I did w4r2 +r3. this morning.
I know you're not supposed to do 2 runs back to back but I wanted to start each new stage on a Monday if possible
So now I will begin w5r1 on Monday.

I was very careful on the second run this morning. I slowed right down, tried not to bounce too much and tried to use my core and thighs to move me along (if that makes sense)
I told myself if i felt any twinges I'd stop, but it seemed to work out ok and I made sure to do my cool down stretches at the end.
Basically I listened to my body.

WellJuhnelle · 30/01/2021 12:08

You too @Inastatus! Glad to find somebody around the same stage as me, we can keep each other going

DobbyTheHouseElk · 30/01/2021 12:31

Well done to everyone getting out there in all weathers.

Today w8r1!!!!!!

Had to extend my route due to flooding and the extra time in the run. Really strong headwind on the first half. Then a strong cross wind for the second, hard to keep my head level. Flooding, puddles and general yuck.

But I did it. Missed Jo. She’s been my friend in my ear the whole way through...but now she’s hardly talking to me. Whenever she did it was to promote the app to my friends. She thinks she’s going to lose me now I’m on w8!

Assuming the audio is the same for the rest of the week I think I’ll change to someone else for the next 2 runs. Then back to jo for the last week.

Can’t believe I’ve got this far. But I’m still slow. So hoping to gain speed soon. Was bright red when I got in so must have pushed myself in the wind more than I thought. Legs are aching now.

Inastatus · 30/01/2021 12:42

@WellJuhnelle - yes, let’s keep each other posted. I am aiming to do Mon, Weds, Fri next week.

Cavagirl · 30/01/2021 13:07

Well done Dobby !!! It's tomorrow or Monday for me (weather pending!)

Onedropbeat · 30/01/2021 13:55

I did it. Went out in the snow and rain.
4th run done and glad I went . Fingers like ice

minipie · 30/01/2021 14:00

@Onedropbeat

How do people get the motivation to go out on a heavy rainy morning?
I don’t Blush I’m ok if it starts raining half way through but I just can’t make myself head out into the rain when I’ve not warmed up yet.
schoolcook · 30/01/2021 14:15

@likeamillpond go for it !
I've actually already done two 10K runs but am working my way through the app in order to "do it properly" 🤣

Onedropbeat · 30/01/2021 14:27

I’ve looked up how far I’m going in 30 minutes and my phone is only recording 3.4km

I’d plotted it and thought it was closer to 4.5km

I feel like it would take me ages to do a 5k

redcandlelight · 30/01/2021 14:37

I find strava more acurate. dh uses his watch but that's sometimes way out. I think the watch goes by official paths and not shortcuts and also doesn't take dog slalom into account.

I cycled with the dc today, mostly along my 'long' route. for some reason it felt awfully long on the bike. same route feels a lot shorter running.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 30/01/2021 15:02

Good luck Cavagirl, I honestly didn’t feel the extra 3 mins. But could have done with a bit more from Jo. I think she feels like she’s done her work now. She can sit back with a cuppa while I run around looking like a t-Rex.

It’s raining steadily now, so I’m glad I went out when I did.

OneDropBeat do you wear gloves? I wear mine and take them off halfway when my fingers have warmed up.

I don’t have a app to record how far I’m going. My garmin watch isn’t behaving at the moment. I checked my iPhone to see how far it recorded on the health bit, it reckoned I’d run 4.5k today. But I don’t think it’s accurate. I’m sure it’s less. When the floods go I’ll do a loop which has distance on finger posts.

fellrunner85 · 30/01/2021 15:05

This doesn't make any sense. Whether it's a phone or a watch you're using, it's the GPS tracker that measures your route. Watches are generally much more accurate than phones, but only if you regularly plyg them in to your computer to update the software.

Strava isn't a run-measurer on its own, IYSWIM. It's an app that gives you running data based on whatever GPS feed you use to track your run. So for me, for example, I use a Garmin watch, which tracks my run via GPS, and then syncs with Strava on my phone.

Generally even a cheap basic running watch will be more accurate than a top-end phone when it comes to tracking runs with GPS.
