More Couch to 5k encouragement!

I hope it's ok starting a new thread. I found the last one so encouraging and didn't want it to stop!!

Also, have to share I've just done W6R3 - my first 25 min run. Wasn't sure I was going to make it to the end, but kept moving (as Jo Whiley told me to) and did it!!

How are others getting on?

Smashed 15k this morning, ran every step of the way. Feeling quite proud of myself (and achy!) I've been running 7 weeks.

LionKingOrTigerKing · 02/07/2020 14:00

I'm planning on starting from week 1 again tomorrow. I've not ran now in a couple of weeks, and I only got to week 2 run 3 last timeBlush I will do this!

Alamindah · 02/07/2020 14:11

I'm pleased to have found the new thread! I was missing the camaraderie from the other thread. I'm continuing to plod along doing 5K, not breaking any speed records but slowly improving and just doing it, more importantly! Trying to stick to the routine of every other day to take any optional element out of it!

Murmurur · 02/07/2020 14:17

@FloatOn well done! It feels like a whole new challenge losing the walking breaks doesn't it?

@imamearcat wow!!

@LionKingOrTigerKing good luck. Hope it goes well. Do you have a celebrity coach in your ear?

LionKingOrTigerKing · 02/07/2020 14:49

@Murmurur thanks, yeah I have chosen Laura. I'm hoping I can stick with it this time, I struggle with fibromyalgia and the fatigue some days like today gets just too much and I can't function so that worries me that I might not be able to stick to it 😬

Can I join you? I’m on week 7 run 2 tonight and I feeling a bit meh about it! I’ve found it all fine until week 7. Even the 25 min at the end of week 6 was fine, but the 25 this week was awful, ran slowly (as usual) ached a lot the next day.

So I need some accountability to make sure I go tonight and get through the next 2 weeks!

ThickFast · 02/07/2020 18:57

That’s awesome @imamearcat !

@LionKingOrTigerKing I wouldn’t worry to much about it all. It all helps and you can always start again after a break. I’m doing all my runs run/walk now rather than continuous due to injury. Could that be something to consider if you struggle with fatigue?

ThickFast · 02/07/2020 18:58

@Halfstonehomerun yeah join! I had weeks like that where some were harder than others. It’s just the way it goes

Polkadotties · 02/07/2020 19:46

W1r2 for me this evening. My OH has joined in so it’s now a competition Grin

PrincessWatermelon · 02/07/2020 20:18

Welcome to all the newbies (and the experienced runners - very much needed for advice!).

@Halfstonehomerun we're at the same stage. I did W7R1 this morning and found it harder than the 25 min run 2 days ago. I wonder if it's because in the earlier weeks there was a sense that every week you could see an improvement - there was a big jump in what was required. And now, the last 3 weeks, it feels all quite samey. Jo Whiley said that it might be necessary to switch things up a bit - change route, or run with a friend. I'm not sure about changing route - I'd be scared I'd come across a hill or might get lost which stresses me!! But I didn't enjoy today's as much as I had been.

Any suggestions from those that have been there before?

Halfstonehomerun · 02/07/2020 20:54

Well I did it and it was a lot better than W7 R2. I realised the last time I had run it was too hilly a route so I kept to the the flat roads today. Actually I picked a posh road so I could have a nosy at the houses. Let’s see how I get on on Saturday!

Cherrypi · 02/07/2020 21:01

I changed it up a bit and changed my route a little and what I listened to at week 7. Must have worked as I just did week 9 run 1. I ran for thirty minutes! It was tough as I went too fast at the start but managed to get over 4km.

PrincessWatermelon · 02/07/2020 21:32

Well done @Cherrypi and @Halfstonehomerun good runs for sure! I'm wondering about starting to listen to a podcast, try and take my mind off the pain. I've never really done them much before, so will try listening in the car to find one I like. Shagged, Married, Annoyed looks up my street!
Will have a look at a map to see a new route as well. Although I have to know exactly where and when beforehand or I get too stressed!

ThickFast · 02/07/2020 22:19

@PrincessWatermelon change your route. It makes it go quicker if you can’t predict what is coming next.

@Polkadotties that’s so funny. Don’t let him win.

ThickFast · 02/07/2020 22:20

@PrincessWatermelon have you listened to ‘The Crypto Queen’. Fascinating podcast. Not funny tho. More of a real life mystery.

notaflyingmonkey · 02/07/2020 22:21

Well done @twilbury, I didn't get out for my w1r2 until gone 9pm today. I felt way more self conscious than I did on my first run, I guess the initial excitement had gone and I just felt like a sad sack plodding around.

GuyFawkesDay · 02/07/2020 22:26

Shagged, married annoyed is brilliant. Definitely recommend!!!

I tried a bit of interval runs today. Walk 30 seconds, jog 30 seconds, sprint 30 seconds.

It's damn near killed me. I went way too fast for the first few sprints and nearly three up in the hedges and had to stop to get my breath 😂

I'd better get faster or I will be v cheesed off.

GuyFawkesDay · 02/07/2020 22:27

Threw up.

I really want to make under 35 minutes for a 5km soon!

spence246 · 02/07/2020 22:43

can i join you. Just completed my w1 r3. I am so not a runner but would like to get fitter and more toned.
I drive to a park so i cant be seen by anyone I know Blush and haven't told any of the family that I am trying to run

whenwillthemadnessend · 02/07/2020 22:52

Did week 3 run 1 last night. It was ok. The second half much easier as all down hill.

I'm dreading the latter weeks tho.

GuyFawkesDay · 02/07/2020 22:58

You will be fine. I promise! I felt the same week 3 and 4.

Trust the programme, bits about getting the time first. Speed can come later xx

newmumwithquestions · 02/07/2020 23:55

Can I join you? W2 r2 today. Feeling proud. If you saw me you’d understand why!
Am apprehensive about the longer runs though. And I have the pelvic floor of a wet paper bag so I’m nervous about that - I go to the loo at least 4 times before actually leaving.

I got a new Samsung active watch this week (well new to me - it’s second hand) and was a little disheartened that although it picked up activity for w2 r1 it thought I was walking the whole time. Today it thought I was doing ‘other activity’. Not sure if that’s better or not... I’ll be so proud the first day it works out I’m trying to run!

Cookiedough123 · 03/07/2020 00:51

Can I join?? I'm not doing c2k5 but I am running. I was running my local park run every week before lock down but then spent weeks eating and lounging around!! 2 weeks ago I started driving to my park run and doing the route. I run/walk it and it takes around 40 min. I had got to 36min in March! I haven't tried C25k as I like doing my own pace i always aim to do 5k tho no matter how long it takes. Tonight I went out on my own when I usually go with others and did 8k in around 1hr10. Its weird to think I actually like running now...

whenwillthemadnessend · 03/07/2020 08:16

Thanks guy falkes

I am loosing the lock down flab now. Lost 2lb so far without really changing my diet. Just cut out the snacks and the running. Still eating a good 3 meals a day and a treat or pudding at night

Very pleased as nearly 50 and clothes were starting to get a bit tight.

I used to swim2/3 a week but as no pools open I resorted to running. I sometimes cycle 9k as well. Determined to keep at it now.
