I hope it's ok starting a new thread. I found the last one so encouraging and didn't want it to stop!!

Also, have to share I've just done W6R3 - my first 25 min run. Wasn't sure I was going to make it to the end, but kept moving (as Jo Whiley told me to) and did it!!

How are others getting on?

The sprint version of Jeffing is ‘Fartlek’. Don’t you just love running language Grin

Murmurur · 01/07/2020 16:00

Hi all. Thank you for the thread and tag @PrincessWatermelon.

I did W6R3 today. Very proud of myself. It was horrible. I usually find in my groove after 5 mins or so but it wasn't working for me today. Still I did it, and it means I can have tomorrow off.

I did get overtaken by a much thinner lady around my age who was WALKING BlushBlush Grin. But hey, I'm still lapping anyone still sat on the sofa, including the old me.

Anyone else thinking they might one day prefer running to walking? There's a scary thought.

Sexnotgender · 01/07/2020 16:04

I finished my run today and a lady who was likely in her 60s absolutely blitzed passed me. In fairness she looked fit as hell! I was very impressed.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 01/07/2020 16:08

Never sure whether to be shamed or impressed by that, @Sexnotgender Grin. I’m so bloody slow though so a geriatric snail overtakes me with no problems.

Sexnotgender · 01/07/2020 16:12

I was walking so I wasn’t too embarrassed but she looked like she’d run rings around me either way!

JonHammIsMyJamm · 01/07/2020 16:16
Grin

There’s a fella near me who I see most mornings on my early dog walk. He must be in his 80’s, rail thin, runs in a vest and short-shorts whatever the weather and goes like the clappers. I want to know his secret.

imamearcat · 01/07/2020 16:20

Thanks for that tag. I had an awful week last week. Felt like I couldn't run at all. Set off to do a 10k on Friday and it was just awful. I think it must have been the heat!?

Anyway seem to have got my mojo back now. Done 27km so far this week.

I'm roughly following a half marathon training plan, I think the concept would suit some of you wanted to do something after c25k. Do a couple of shorter / easier runs, alonger run and then an interval training one plus some strength training.

ThickFast · 01/07/2020 16:29

@JonHammIsMyJamm there’s a guy like that near me. It’s amazing.

@imamearcat that’s great! So far. I’m gonna try to Jeff a 5k tomorrow. Still not actually fine 5k coz of my leg. But hoping that with Jeffing I’ll be able to do it pain free.

titsbumfannythelot · 01/07/2020 19:56

Hello all, I restarted today after an ankle injury so week 1 run 1 completed again. Let's see how my ankle feels tomorrow. So good to see how many people have stuck with the running and this thread.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 01/07/2020 20:07

@sexnotgender...I was once overtaken by a three-legged-dog Blush

Manteo · 01/07/2020 20:26

Has anyone else managed to get to near the end of couch25k without losing a single pound or am I alone in that achievement?

ThickFast · 01/07/2020 20:31

@MyGhastIsFlabbered oh my dog!

stargirl1701 · 01/07/2020 20:38

I finished C25K today. Nothing lost.

HGC2 · 01/07/2020 20:48

Hi, I started couch to 5k at the start of lockdown, had never been a runner and wanted a challenge as I was shielding. Loved the challenge and completed it a few weeks ago. I really struggled with what todo next without someone giving me directions so I tried upping my speed, completing the full 5 k at a fast and slow speed and also tried to add inclines as in a treadmill. It was all so hard and I wasn’t enjoying it at all.
I’ve now found my mojo by just relaxing about pressuring myself to do more. I now run for 30 minutes twice a week and run 5k on a Sunday, starting to enjoy it again!

Murmurur · 01/07/2020 21:28

@HGC2 that's exactly where I would love to be in a few months! Well done and thanks for the inspiration.

ChanklyBore · 01/07/2020 21:32

I don’t know if I’ve lost any weight, I don’t know how much I weigh, I’ve never really known or kept scales in the house. I was weighed occasionally when pregnant but didn’t take much notice. I think I’m happy this way. My bum looks a nicer shape than it has done for a while, so I’m good with that.

I am struggling at the end of the programme too if I’m honest, I haven’t had the mojo since I actually finished it. Feel like I peaked too early, have fond memories of week 6/7 and honestly haven’t actually enjoyed a run properly since perhaps week 8. I want to enjoy it though

ThickFast · 01/07/2020 21:38

@Twilbury when I first started I didn’t have the right clothes so was running in PJ shorts. I also don’t have headphones that stay in, so I was running with phone in hand and the volume up. So I’d dread passing people and Michael Johnson shouting out ‘you got this!’ Or whatever. So cringe. And I go very slowly so it was really obvious that I was a total beginner. But I decided if I waited for it all to be perfect and for me to be sleek and magical then I’d never run.

Murmurur · 01/07/2020 22:04

@Twilbury me too! There are 2 school catchments in my town. I walk as fast as I can to the other school's catchment as there aren't so many people I know there. And I feel a complete twat with my running armband thing and enormous legs. But I've literally never seen anyone else running, no matter how red faced or slowly, and thought anything other than "respect". I don't know why we judge ourselves so harshly.

GuyFawkesDay · 01/07/2020 22:28

I'm same weight bar about 4/5lb but I'm definitely more toned.

Hubby has gone further. Joe Wicks plus daily run and he's 2stone down and feels great. He kicked himself into doing more after being shocked by his extra chin on a zoom call 😂

Cherrypi · 02/07/2020 08:25

Week 9 no weight loss but has probably just replaced the calories I would have lost walking the school run. Definitely helping my mental health though.

PrincessWatermelon · 02/07/2020 09:27

W7R1 completed. Didn't find it easy, I have to say, and really wasn't sure I was going to finish. But I pushed through and reckon I must've gained endurance by doing that!

I've lost 3lb, but was already calorie counting (loosely). I gained 1.5 in the first few weeks, and then it's come back down again. I am definitely trying to limit consumption of sweet things though.

@notaflyingmonkey Good luck/well done for today depending where you are now. I have been and gone and done wk1 r2 . I walked to the field again but just before the first run I noticed someone walking a few paces behind me. Stupidly I then took off like a twat with something to prove so was more knackered than I needed to be for the rest of the bloody session. I really need to get over myself.
I do trust the process as I have completed it in the past so I know it works but that was tough today.

Happy to have got out and looking forward to Saturday now.

Thank you for all the words of encouragement everyone.

FloatOn · 02/07/2020 13:36

Oooh I found you, I did W6 R2 yesterday and it was a stuggle, though I stuck at it. Hoping its freezing and raining tomorrow for W6 R3 as I really struggle in any kind of heat!
