I hope it's ok starting a new thread. I found the last one so encouraging and didn't want it to stop!!

Also, have to share I've just done W6R3 - my first 25 min run. Wasn't sure I was going to make it to the end, but kept moving (as Jo Whiley told me to) and did it!!

How are others getting on?

Meant to do W8R3 today but just found out I’m pregnant and feeling a bit 🤮 will give it a go and see how I do!

mumto2unicorns · 30/07/2020 09:43

@Sexnotgender congratulations that's amazing news

PrincessWatermelon · 30/07/2020 10:08

Congratulations to @mumto2unicorns on graduation and @Sexnotgender on your pregnancy. Have you children already? How many? Some people keep running through pregnancy, I think, but I know I was sick and knackered so would be tempted to find an excuse!!

Sorry to hear some families and DH's are crap and unsupportive. Keep on doing the runs and proving to yourself you can. You ARE good enough.

Went for something different here today - tackled a whacking great hill. It's in 2 parts - first 2/3 pretty steep. Then cross a road and a bend and the final third is crazy steep. I managed the first 2/3 but had to walk the other bit as my legs and lungs were done. Still chuffed and pleased and will give me something to work on. I might do that once a week and the longer seafront run once a week. Mix it up.

New to this thread but hoping it'll give me some motivation!
DD (9yo) and I have just finished w5r3 this morning, our first 20 minute run. She gets up at 5am on some days to come running with me!
I feel like I'm going so slowly sometimes though. Is there any way of speeding up or should I just finish the program first?

TeamEponine · 30/07/2020 12:43

@Sexnotgender Massive congratulations! Flowers

I finished week 6 this morning. It feels quite terrifying, the idea of no longer getting little breaks. But on the other hand, it feels like I'm getting closer to the end Grin

UnaOfStormhold · 30/07/2020 13:23

I have my last run of week 7 tonight, funny how I feel used to nonstop running already. I think that extra day of rest before W7R2 did me good, had enough energy to pick up the pace in the last 5 mins.

Congratulations sexnotgender, lovely news. Hope you're not too ill with the sickness.

Paintedpanda everything I've read about C25k says not to worry about speed, just keep building up the time. Apparently lots of athletes train at a pace where you can talk for most of their training time, because it's the most efficient at building up your stamina and eventually your speed. Once you've finished I've heard people suggest going back to W1R1 but jog the "walk" intervals and do a faster run for the run intervals, which I might try.

Witchofthenorth and notaflyingmonkey I'm sorry you're not getting support at home, it's depressing that some people seem to be threatened about others doing something like running.

Fauchelevant · 30/07/2020 13:46

For people struggling with the idea of longer runs - I couldn’t do the first 20 minute run without stopping halfway. I hate getting red and sweaty and used to give up at the first sign of a stitch but now I can run for 25 minutes. I am genuinely surprised !! So you never know.

Sexnotgender · 30/07/2020 13:46

Thanks everyone! Managed W8R3 without vomming!!

@PrincessWatermelon I have 2 children already, 16 years and 18 months 😂 bit of an age gap!!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 30/07/2020 17:48

Ahh well done everyone!

Graduations, pregnancies it’s all lovely to read.

DS and I are slipping a bit. My phone has broken so I have got the app and DS spent all day mountain biking yesterday so is too tired to run today (and won’t let me use his phone!). I’m hoping to get him out tomorrow before it gets too hot!

MirandaWest · 30/07/2020 18:41

I did week 6 run 3 today - wasn’t the most fun thing of my life but I stuck with it Smile

PrincessWatermelon · 30/07/2020 18:51

Ooo...someone mentioned before about dreading and anticipating the runs at the same time. I'm definitely like that. Last night I was planning my new route, then going over it in my mind whilst I couldn't sleep. Then woke up and felt anxious, but also excited to see how I'd do. How bizarre over running!!

Completed W3R2 today, it was hot and quite hard and I smashed my phone screen right near home :-(

Have ordered a new phone and will use the smashed one for future runs 😂

Twilbury · 31/07/2020 08:21

Morning all!

Congrats on graduating @mumto2unicorns and yay on the pregnancy @Sexnotgender and double yay for not vomming Grin

I have been and gone and done the dreaded wk5 r3 run. I can't believe how disappointed I was not to get out yesterday on schedule. It really gets under your skin doesn't it ?

I am only covering just over 2 miles at the minute but I guess 10 mins of that is walking and the pace will improve over time.

Good luck to everyone going out today, it is going to be a hot one here.

Oh no! What a pain. I’ve got a little running belt for my phone which works well.
notheragain4 · 31/07/2020 08:27

About to do W9R3!

NCTDN · 31/07/2020 08:39

I've got out and done week 8 before it was too hot!

Sexnotgender · 31/07/2020 08:41

@notheragain4

About to do W9R3!
Congratulations!!
notheragain4 · 31/07/2020 09:35

I did it! It actually took about 15 weeks haha as I wasn't very committed in the beginning and re-did a few weeks in the middle, but after W6 I really got into it and have stuck to it since. I'm a stupidly slow runner, only getting to about 3.4km in 30 mins. But I did it, I kept running for 30 mins! So I'm going to start working on distance now to see if I can stretch to 5k gradually, and once I can achieve that will start trying to reduce the time.

Couch to 5k is a bit of a misnomer for me ha!

Twilbury · 31/07/2020 10:09

Well done you @notheragain4 that is amazing !!!

I think couch to 5k is a lie for most of us but running for 30 mins is brilliant.

StripyHorse · 31/07/2020 10:24

Week 2 done. Smile Was hard going today. When I was doing stretches after, DD2 said "You look like one of those really athletic mums."
Followed up with..."It's like some people look really pretty and you think they will be nice but they are mean." 🤦‍♀️

Dozycuntlaters · 31/07/2020 10:53

Hi all, I've just started, did my week 1 run 2 this morning. Wouldn't say I'm loving it yet but not hating it either. I turn 50 i 8 months time and I want to be fabulous for that, so that's the goal I'm working towards. it's odd, because Ive downloaded the app and have someone talking to me it's keeping me focused, like I'll get told off if I don't do it. Hope it starts to get easier though. I start off fine but by run 6 I start to feel knackered.

Scruffyoak · 31/07/2020 11:08

Well done all.

I repeated a week 2 again yesterday as extremely hot out and I had done weights in the morning. My calves felt like they would snap because I had done weights the eve before on my legs. I walked fast and in the end I got relief from the pain. My jog is slow. I am not covering much distance but I am not too fussed by that. I can not ever imagine running for 5mins though!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 31/07/2020 12:10

@notheragain4 Congratulations!

Ds and I did week 8 run 1 today. Even going out at 9am it was hot, and I had to rely on him for the timings because my phone’s kaput. No music either!

We did it through - another one ticked off 😀

shouldisay · 31/07/2020 12:44

You guys are all doing so well!! I did W1R2 yesterday and was really surprised at how much quicker I recovered in the walks between runs, I mean it's been one day?!?! Plus I did an extra mile walking on the end so was very proud of myself.

We had impromptu guests round yesterday who are completely supportive of me so thought it might spur DH on to be a little too. Especially since they were asking how it was going, alas no, all I got was a sentence about how running in the morning is bad for you and more runners have heart attacks in the morning. I admit I've had moments of what's the point since then. Still going to go out tomorrow though. Haven't told my mum yet, and she is staying this weekend so will see me go out. She will take the absolute piss.

NCTDN · 31/07/2020 14:47

Well done @notheragain4 I feel better when you put that distance as I feel like the slowest runner ever, therefore less distance, but I'm covering the same amount of ground as you. Maybe I'm not as bad as I think? It beats sitting at home thinking about it anyway.
It's shame when families aren't supportive. DH supports me completely but there's no way I'd run with him as my whole run would be a little warm up for him Hmm
