I’d recommend Runkeeper as an alternative to c25k if you have finished the programme or just want a change...you can set it to tell you how long you have been running and how far, average pace etc, so it can tell you every 5mins/20mins or every 1k/3k whatever you prefer. It might be good just to try running without any measurements or coaching apps at all, purely just to go and enjoy a run, no matter how fast or far? Interesting experiment!

stargirl1701 · 21/06/2020 15:45

I'm having a crappy day too. I did Week 8, R3 this morning. It was so hard. I've felt sore, exhausted and weepy all day today.

Cherrypi · 21/06/2020 18:18

Week 7 run 2 felt good. I was surprised as have a bit of a cold. Should I be concerned my Fitbit didn't recognise it as running Blush

Stopthehop · 21/06/2020 20:24

Just did wk 6 run 1. I usually go first thing in the morning but let Dp have a father's day lie in this morning. I thought it would be a piece of piss after the 20 minute run but it was soooo hard. @NCTDN did you run today after?

NCTDN · 21/06/2020 20:43

I did @Stopthehop. I woke up feeling rubbish with a headache but was determined to still get out and felt better for it. Well done for getting out as well Wink
I think like pp it takes me 3-4 mins to get into a rhythm so I needed the 8 min run and the 3 mins break was enough to get my breath back. I actually think I could've pushed myself more but then don't want to suffer afterwards and put myself off.

NCTDN · 21/06/2020 20:44

I might be on week 6 now but still run slower than a snail BlushMy Fitbit is only just recognising it as a run not a walk!!

Alamindah · 21/06/2020 20:53

@stargirl1701 I'm sorry you've had a crappy day too. Let's hope tte next run feels better!

Thank you @sleepwhenidie and @Unaofstormhold for your encouraging words. Nothing obviously different but I think @sleepwhenidle has got it with putting too much pressure on myself. A great reminder that this isn't all some big competition/judgement! I will check it Runkeepwr - I hadn't heard of that!

Stopthehop · 21/06/2020 20:55

I'm not very fast either, only slightly faster than walking.

sleepwhenidie · 21/06/2020 22:34

If it feels like running then it’s running! GrinWink

ChanklyBore · 21/06/2020 22:40

Week 6 run 1 is really hard. I wiped out on it the first time round. It’s psychological after the 20 minutes, I think.

I repeated it the other day (after graduating, because I’m repeating the last few weeks as I like c25k) and it was easy. It’s not about the legs that one, but about the mind.

PrincessWatermelon · 22/06/2020 07:56

Wish me luck!! Dropping the kids at school and then starting my W5R3 20 mins. Am a bit apprehensive but am encouraged all you others have achieved it. I have had 2 days rest and am ready for it...

I think this group is excellent for encouraging each other - knowing that when we hit a wall, someone else can understand and it generally isn't just you!!

Hedgehog26 · 22/06/2020 08:17

Back out in a min to re attempted W4R1! Going to have the baby with me in the pram so that might help with forcing me to go slower. Will report back when I’m done.

Good luck to everyone doing big runs today!

UnaOfStormhold · 22/06/2020 08:52

Go Princess and Hedgehog !

stargirl1701 · 22/06/2020 08:57

I took some painkillers and had an early night. I do feel better this morning.

PrincessWatermelon · 22/06/2020 09:42

Hurrah!! I did it!! Very pleased I managed to run for a whole 20 mins. Cannot believe I did it, considering I was set to die after 60 secs the first run.

I am using MapMyRun and Strava - and there's a massive difference in the stats they produce for the same run. Has anyone else found this? Today's run on MMR was 4.72km with a pace of 7.59 (min/km) but on Strava it was 4.99km and 7.27 (min/km). I know which I prefer!!

Hedgehog26 · 22/06/2020 09:44

Did it! It was hard but I completed it and with a distance of 3.4km. It’s the same again on the next run then I might repeat it again before moving on just to be comfortable doing it.

Just goes to show that having one bad run doesn’t mean you can’t do it

ThickFast · 22/06/2020 11:19

Sounds like people are doing really well. And to those who are finding it hard, I think that’s totally normal. Good days and bad days. Like anything in life really. Like being a mum. Some days I’m smashing it. Others are a disaster. Just carry on though, don’t you.

sleepwhenidie · 22/06/2020 11:44

I’ve just finished a run that was exactly the same route as I did on Saturday and felt totally different! Felt challenging from the start. Trying to think of reasons why...no breakfast maybe? First day of period? Weather was lovely both times, possibly hotter on Saturday. My time wasn’t that different but a bit slower today. Just felt like more of an effort to keep going. Things I find that help me to not give up and walk though, in case they help anyone else...

  • reminding myself that I can run continuously for x amount of time and speed is not the object, especially on days that feel hard
  • deep breaths in through nose, pushing out my belly then out through mouth, ideally before I feel short of breath
  • checking to see how tense I am feeling (usually if I’m gripping my phone really tightly it’s a giveaway) and trying to relax..usually this means slowing down a bit. Also when I’m more relaxed my feet and ankles feel looser and chance of shin pain reduced. As with any sport, the more relaxed your body is, the better you perform. And it’s more enjoyable Smile
  • checking my posture, I have a tendency to push my chin ahead, need to pull back so top of my head is in line with my spine and pelvis...better for the whole chain of movement and feels more natural.
ThickFast · 22/06/2020 11:46

First day of period is a nightmare for me. Runs feel wrong.

Sexnotgender · 22/06/2020 11:53

Doing W4R1 later today. A little scared 😂

Hedgehog26 · 22/06/2020 11:59

Wasn’t there an article in the press a while ago about how being on your period affected athletes performance? I reckon if I was on my period and I knew there was a dairy milk at the end I’d get a PB.

Rooting for you @sexnotgender

FloatOn · 22/06/2020 13:18

@sexnotgender I just completed week 4, the first run was a nightmare but the third wasnt too bad at all!

Going to W5 R1 tomorrow

TryingToBeBold · 22/06/2020 18:25

I wimped out today.
Tomorrow is first day back since shin splints.

@sleepwhenidie it always takes me 40 mins to run 5k hahah Grin

Murmurur · 22/06/2020 18:31

@TryingToBeBold you didn't wimp out, you gave your body the benefit of the doubt, and that's ok.

5 days since my 20 min run and the first day I've managed since. W6R1 was ok. I wasn't really feeling it but got through ok. I've just realised I only have one more run with walking breaks, and th n that's it. Eek! I think I might be repeating this week at least once.

Those of you who are now tracking your distance, do you include your 5 mins walks?

NCTDN · 22/06/2020 19:05

@PrincessWatermelon that's very impressive. I didn't go that far and definitely not that quick for my 20 minute run.
