I did my first 'run' today. Think I'm going to need help to go all the way to week 9 but determined to do it before I hit the big 50. Anyone else started this week? Fancy a support thread? Couldn't see an active recent one.

Elk. Starting W3 D1 tomorrow. I am finding it very tough!

CeibaTree · 24/04/2020 19:54

@sulkysukey ah excellent - I'm going on Sunday too, what time do you think you'll do it? I'm going to try to head out sometime between 8-9am. Good luck, I'm stiIl not convinced I can do a 20 run, but we shall see :)

sulkysukey · 24/04/2020 22:13

@CeibaTree I'm aiming for similar time on Sun but with 3 kids (youngest 11 weeks) I have to grab the moment whenever it arises! Bring it on!

newbiefrugalgal · 25/04/2020 03:19

Started w1r1
Early days Grin

Morning all. W8R2 done. 5.6K inc warm up walk but not cool down. We're getting there! Keep going and have good weekends!

W6R3 done. Felt like dying during that final uphill, and I'm sure that I was 'running' so slowly at one point that I may have gone in reverse. And now I have 3 more runs of the exact same thing to improve the pace. 😬

spacepoppers · 25/04/2020 16:07

Wk 1 R1 done today. Took DD13 with me too, she left me for dust! My legs are really aching, but I'm so motivated to do this. I'm determined to come out of this lockdown stronger, fitter and with a more positive mindset 🙌🏻

BlahBlahLand · 25/04/2020 17:42

I've done W3R2 three times, I'm summoning up the courage to do R3 which is 20 minutes of running. Hopefully tomorrow then onto the dreaded W6.

BlahBlahLand · 25/04/2020 17:42

I meant to write W5

CeibaTree · 26/04/2020 09:35

Week 5 run 3 done! Managed the 20 mins really easily which I was not expecting at all :) Although I really wasn't going very fast, and only covered 3k. Have a lovely sunday everyone!

JonHammIsMyJamm · 26/04/2020 10:22

w3r1 done Smile

Has DH built weekends in as rest days for you, @happytobemrsg?

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 26/04/2020 12:31

Morning, gave myself an extra rest day before completing w4r3. Did it but found it the hardest of the three, my music conked out early in and couldn't get it back on again. I think that slowed me down and made it much more mentally challenging. So it was my slowest run overall of this week, but thanks to Strava I know I've done my fastest 1k.

Well done to all those starting out.

I’m braving the thread finally. I’ve been lurking but didn’t want to jinx my new habit. 😀

I’ve been doing the C25K for the last 22 days and am currently on W7D2. I went back to W1D1 this morning because my DH wanted to join me running so we started again from the beginning. I’m surprised by how easy it was. DH was huffing as we went but he hasn’t done any proper physical exercise for a while.

I’m actually liking the new habit. It’s exactly what I need right now to distract and focus my attention on something I can control. I haven’t been able to run in years and getting back into it has really made me feel positive again.

I’ve got a couple of questions:

  1. What shoes do you recommend? I have wide feet and need something for woodland running. I tend to run over various terrain.
  2. I’m afraid of the step up to 10k. Can you reassure me?!
  3. I’ve been running everyday but obviously won’t be able to continue this full time. For now though is it going to cause me any issues health wise? I don’t want to cause any damage to joints or muscles so I’m assuming that a 5k a day is fine, can anyone confirm/refute?
moita · 26/04/2020 19:35

Another one joining in! Did C25K 4 years and completed a 5k for charity but stopped running when I was expecting my son and never got back into it.

Now is the perfect time as my DH is furloughed so he can watch the children.

I'm starting WK2 tomorrow. Found WK1 R1 a shock to the system but the other two I really enjoyed.

The hard bit is when my daughter has a bad night and I'm tired but hoping this thread will motivate me.

GuyFawkesDay · 26/04/2020 19:37

W2R2 done. Managed to pull my groin a bit before I even stepped out the house so hoping tomorrow's not too painful as the run itself felt great.

moita · 26/04/2020 20:39

I'd be confused about doing repetitive exercise. Mixing it up is always a good idea. Also shin splints which can be very painful.

moita · 26/04/2020 20:39

Typo: worried not confused...

sulkysukey · 26/04/2020 21:22

@Ceiba snap - W5R3 done and the 20 minutes was fine - started very slowly but had enough energy to go quite fast for the last 2 mins which felt great. Looks like rain for the next week or so, hope the desire to run stays with us!

BookShop · 26/04/2020 21:53

Moita- it’s not causing any issue at the moment. I’ll keep an eye out for symptoms of shin splints. What would you recommend as a limit to running each day?

Wilberforce1 · 26/04/2020 22:51

Hi all. I’m starting this tomorrow but I’m going in at wk3 run 1 as I started it at the gym before lockdown. It’s taken me this long to get the courage to run in the street, I don’t want to look like a big fat lemon trying to run 😫 Thinking of bribing my 11 year old to come with me!!

GuyFawkesDay · 26/04/2020 22:55

Nobody will think that!!

I am the palest person I know and today I went out in shorts. And without make up.

It felt weird but in s really good way. I've stopped giving a shit and I like it 🤭

resipsa · 27/04/2020 07:14

Morning all! W8R3 done. Final week next. Started on 13 March so just over 7 weeks from start to finish at current rate. End point coincides with end of financial year at work which will also be welcome. Celebratory drink for me on Saturday! Good luck to all running today.

It’s so heartening to see so many of you joining in!!!
Like with everything, you’ll have good and bad running days, don’t sweat the small stuff. I started running as my marriage began to disintegrate, for some head space. It’s slightly addictive and very good for you :)
I never ran more than 3 times a week, apart from the odd occasions when I needed to go out more.
I never lost any weight either, I became leaner and stronger, but I was still a stone overweight. What helped was doing weights, it really increased my stamina, and decreased my weight.
I can’t recommend Pilates enough, you need to stretch to prevent injuries.
I started running with a Lidl pair of shoes 😂, they were just fine for a while.
I underpronate, look at your normal shoes and see where the sole is more worn out, it’ll give you an idea. I have very narrow heels, the best shoes for me are brooks ghost.
Most of all, go out and have fun. Running in the rain is THE BEST!!!

choc27 · 27/04/2020 08:04

W6R2 yesterday did about 3.5k so pleased with that. Struggled at the end though as I had a week off. I'm really struggling to get motivated on work days. When I was off for 2 weeks at Easter I never skipped a run, I was loving it. Now back at work and by the time I can run at about 4pm I'm knackered and can't be arsed.
The op who asked about shoes, I bought a pair or Nike ones that are called 'runallday' or something like that! They are comfy and I've had no injuries or anything.

BlahBlahLand · 27/04/2020 08:32

Morning all.
Back from W7R1 with a very red face.
My last 5 minutes is up a steep hill so I'm thinking of changing my route a bit.
I can't quite believe that 5 weeks ago I was puffing when running for 3 mins.
We're all doing so well, this thread has been such a boost.
