Is it just me or gym female room always so hostile

Apo1a · 10/02/2020 15:37

We just moved to a small middle class town from London .
I am now quite shocked how hostile is the new local gym female changing room.
it is like a pack and a tight knitted old pack who will give a lesson to all newcomers .

And this is a commercial chain one which I can’t name here .

I wonder whether this is a London vs small town thing . Or just typical female changing room thing ? But in London I didn’t have any of such drama .

Hostile?! No it's really just you

Iamthewombat · 11/02/2020 00:18

Thank you for clarifying the gym/tippex/screeching escandalo, @VivaLeBeaver. It is even stranger than the edited highlights were!

blacksax · 11/02/2020 00:19

It's bizarre
You can say that again.

BilboBercow · 11/02/2020 00:19

Ah this is an "everywhere outside of London" is shit thread.
Those UNEMPLOYED white women with their big cars and hot bodies eh op?

Spartak · 11/02/2020 00:19

Fuck me, if this is what going to the gym daily does to the brain, I'm going to stay fat at home and eat another pie.

NameChangeNugget · 11/02/2020 00:28

Think it’s you OP

dustibooks · 11/02/2020 00:35

This small town... Barking?

JaneJeffer · 11/02/2020 00:58

Spartak Grin

BinkyandBunty · 11/02/2020 01:14

My god woman, I'm surprised you need to go to the gym at all, carrying those massive chips around on your shoulders all day would be enough of a workout?

You seem obsessed with other women, how old they are, how rich they are, how hot they are. What they're doing, what they're thinking. It's mad, and I'm sure it shows which is why everyone's looking at you.

Plus, an old woman said something silly and you went crying to the General Manager!

FFS just shut up and mind your own business, and you'll be fine. Honest.

Tartyflette · 11/02/2020 01:19

The gym i used to go to in central London was far more hostile and cliquey than the two where I've had memberships out in the sticks.
It was also very pose-y and exhibitionistic. (Is that a word?)
Current gym private, attached to a hotel, allows boys up to the age of 7 in the women's changing room so your DS would not have been a problem at all.
There may be a bit of random chat going on, sometimes i join in, sometimes not. I don't go there to socialise either but the odd pleasantry Is fine.

Dolorabelle · 11/02/2020 05:56

You sound awful OP. Maybe people can tell that you’re a judgemental arse with all your ageist, racist, and sexist comments about other members.

Maybe young girls want to get changed without boys looking at them. Maybe you should respect other members.

tallah · 11/02/2020 06:14

It's just you

HelgaHere1 · 11/02/2020 06:17

I think if you move somewhere and everyone is unfriendly and snipey or weird you have to accept that this isn't true.
I had this and spent years somewhere that was imv 'unfriendly', 'snooty' it was also the Home counties.
Its hard but you just have to bite the bullet and put yourself out there. Engage people in conversation - even something like 'I hope the rain has stopped' - you can then ask how far they ahve to travel home etc etc.
What is part of the problem imv is that it is a dormitory town for highly paid jobs in London but people want smaller mortgages and better schools so move there. Both DPs work, busy bringing up DCs. Normal things that happen in the countryside small towns, which are arranged by the retirees, don't happen because there aren't the retirees. So no coffee mornings, charity sale etc. Random get to meet people type of things. So everyone is busy and insular.
But speak to people (it will be a lot before you find friends) - and if that fails move.

ememem84 · 11/02/2020 06:25

Yeah it’s you. If you’ve got time to notice all this you’re not working out. Get in do work out get changed go home.

It also sounds as though you’ve decided straight off that everywhere outside of London is full of wierd anti social types.

Margotshypotheticaldog · 11/02/2020 07:06

This confirms what I have always suspected. Gyms are dangerous places full of deranged lunatics.
Budge up on the sofa and pass the pies Spartak

Apo1a · 11/02/2020 07:35

@HelgaHere1

Yeah Helga .
Most parents told me they don’t like here but they need free nanny service from grannies. Until older they will move back to bigger city and more interesting place .

Dads travel to London to make money .
Mums start here with children.

This place just simply make Birmingham / Leeds / York the most amazing international cities ever ( outside London)

@Tartyflette

I notice some place in London :
where dance/sing/drama girls want to be discovered by agency by luck . They wear lots Make up 24/7 during work out . which I don’t mind . They are so focused and into themselves to have the time for clique / politics .

Some place Civilians women want to meet / find rich husbands / lovers. they are quite focused too . So no time for this.

And here i guess people have no focus in life like above types .... too much time in hand so here u go .... all the politics cliques gossips ......

‘This small town... Barking?’

My thoughts exactly....... @dustibooks Grin

Apo1a · 11/02/2020 07:53

In big cities .. I am sure if I drop dead ... ( if not my friends but strangers ) will just simply walk over my dead body on pavement and carry on .
Which I don’t mind at all . And totally used to this.

But those type of women here just will pretend to be friendly to ask 1000000000 questions then everyone in town knows what is colour of your dog arse . And banging on your doors 25//7 at 1 am to ask for a pint of milk or 3am ask for a car lift to somewhere .

If you got a visitor . Before he / she stops the engine . The car number plates will be already taken photo / written down 100’ times by all here behind window & curtain .

Apo1a · 11/02/2020 08:13

If you got a new tv here during Xmas . The whole neighbourhood will know ..... if u don’t cover up name address and tv brand logo ...... on the packing before folding up it in bin room

What in the name of God are you on about?

Dolorabelle · 11/02/2020 08:20

Gyms are dangerous places full of deranged lunatics

Noooo! It’s just the Op who sounds a bit drunk tbh.

My gym is really friendly and people just get on with changing and showering. We chat, we say “Hello” and just live and let live.

Apo1a · 11/02/2020 08:26

I am like : in change out .
Not even stay for a blow dry . Not even stay for a pee .
About 10-25 seconds .
If people smile I smile .
If people nasty I come here to write this thread .

Still I see so much ! hear so much .......
what I can say !

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 11/02/2020 08:29

Out of interest, what is the colour of your dog's arse?
