Is it just me or gym female room always so hostile

We just moved to a small middle class town from London .
I am now quite shocked how hostile is the new local gym female changing room.
it is like a pack and a tight knitted old pack who will give a lesson to all newcomers .

And this is a commercial chain one which I can’t name here .

I wonder whether this is a London vs small town thing . Or just typical female changing room thing ? But in London I didn’t have any of such drama .

London Time : when I was Single & childless ...

@ pineapple : which is lovely —full of happy go lucky young hot girls .... no tension there in changing room Whatsoever .

Then @ council gym London .
No problem .

Then @ chain gym london Near Liverpool Street and Chelsea . No problem .

Then here :
Bit weird . It is like rich angry grannies house.
But I am new so will wait and see.

My first club was actually @ tennis club in the middle Land Long long time ago . That was also slightly weird ....
full of doctor wives and hot young guys .
But the hot young guy”S was so so pleasant that you won’t care about doctor wives little circles .

I met some guy looking alike Greek god ... I don’t remember the rest ..... Just remembered him Grin
I lost his phone number now ..... arghhhhhhh

I’m at DL. Wouldn’t bat an eyelid at a boy in the woman’s changing room unless he was being a pain in the arse 🤷‍♀️

Apo1a · 10/02/2020 20:26

My local car dealer sales girl ( I love her ) told me majority of her customers are alike this in this type of gym . And she has to put up with them .... then she gave me a hug Grin

If I am alone without children. I don’t really care.
For me it is place to get sweaty .
For some i guess . It is their whole world and all their social life .

@SonEtLumiere
Unlike your very mixed ....
Mine is not mixed ....

All blonde white unemployed women @ school hours
Plus family kids after school hours (who are white blonde mostly also. )

Sounds like I am in Denmark .

And apparently these type bully the personal coaches too.
Like very very last minute cancellation.... No show ... etc
And because no advance payments required ... so those PT / PC just have to put up with this .

A friend just told me to be easy on managers saying She feels sorry for them .... as that they are under huge pressures also with monthly target or something like that ....

I live across the road from my gym so I don’t use the changing room unless all the exterior lockers are full. But I’ve belonged to various gyms and never noticed and changing room politics. They are strangers who I ignore. I have noticed silly cliques in some classes; a bunch of women trying to be “besties” with the teacher who positively encouraged it. Pathetic.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 10/02/2020 21:00

Why are you so obsessed with whether your fellow changing room users are 'hot'?

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 10/02/2020 21:01

To be frank, if you're going to the gym and looking at people changing and making note of how 'hot' they are - you are the problem, not them.

Apo1a · 10/02/2020 21:05

As I am learning this now with my children growing up together ...... apparently huge politics with children sport coaches also.

For example : inside gym :

some coaches are amazingly popular. Then lots folks will kiss ass to be IN not OUT or WAIT ......
And some coaches playing games like : maybe perhaps probably some slot will come up . Let me meet u guys first to get a feeling and then decide ......
No matter she / he has Olympic gold or not on his / her CV . I would just turn around to find another low level but straight forward coach instead .

( this now is more likely to be in a school Or Private club than inside A gym ) Also with children huge team sports ( more than 4 People ) . Even bigger drama and politics !!!
Excuse me : Why my children sit on bench !!! Why my child not in this position ........

I have not reached this stage yet ... so this is second hand experience . Rest are first hand experience though .

@Iggity
This NOW sounds like a private all Girl school I experienced .... where school clearly clearly encouraged parents queueing up with gift bags to kiss ass.

Maybe change gyms if you dislike it so much Confused

bakedbeanzontoast · 10/02/2020 21:37

No but what seems to be universal is loud shouting/giggling etc etc at each other as if they were in separate continents.

ivykaty44 · 10/02/2020 21:38

Sounds like my gym 😂
I tend to go at 6am

Apo1a · 10/02/2020 21:41

I am now going there 12-3
Apparently this is quietest time .

Those typical women came in the morning. Leaving around lunch .
Kids come after 3/3:30pm

Oh and I'm guessing it's David L or Virgin. I'm a pure gym pleb myself 🤣

Apo1a · 10/02/2020 21:45

Also I saw parents bringIng personal teachers there into restaurant.

I saw a mum there on the same dining table with her daughter and a Female French teacher . She was There just to watch the clock . Her other daughter (much younger ) sitting on a separate table ( Avoiding causing distraction —the expensive Tuition) Doing colouring .
The mum run between 2 tables & watch the clock .

OP posts:
Apo1a · 10/02/2020 21:47

I wonder whether the mum is To avoid the female French teacher meeting her husband at home or To avoid her using toilet in her house by bringing the tutor into gym .
Or maybe she is worried the female tutor stealing her Jewels or robbing her house without a public cctv in place .

Iamthewombat · 10/02/2020 21:52

How have we segued into French teachers watching the clock? Is this thread in a different dimension?

Also, WTF is going on in another poster’s gym?

One long standing member at my gym was a total pita, screeching round the members lounge, one of the PTs swears she tried to poison him by putting tippex in his water bottle.

  1. Screeching what? We must know.
  2. Why is the PT boasting about poisoning members?
  3. Why tippex? Can you even buy tippex these days? Why not just use cyanide?
  4. Is tippex poisonous?
  5. Is tippex water soluble?
  6. I give up. I am going to the wrong gyms.
Iamthewombat · 10/02/2020 21:53

I might retrain as a female tutor. Just think of the husband and jewels stealing opportunities! To say nothing of the lavatory tourism.

Lyricallie · 10/02/2020 21:54

I'm literally a small town in the Highlands and everyone is really nice and happy to talk to each other and help. So just a bad experience I think.

Apo1a · 10/02/2020 21:55

hahahahaha you need to be there to see to feel to hear To smell .... then you got it .
