This is a thread to talk about all things running and support each other through the highs and lows. All are welcome, from absolute beginners to experts!
We keep a running total of everyone's miles for the month, so feel free to add yours on. Current total for March is:

204.3

That sounds a good plan! Grin
I'm very sore, but at least my breathing doesn't feel squashed today! That was weird last night, as though I couldn't breathe deeply enough.

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 06/05/2019 15:26

I kind of want to go out again but will resist and do a little one tomorrow Instead after work as work will mean I need it!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2019 17:02

me too. I like those endorphins, but they aren't. worth risking injury for. I've been out for a gentle walk instead.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/05/2019 18:28

Whoops it's probably more your core muscles rather than your actual ribs, I did a fast run into wind a few weeks ago and had very similar pain, felt like I'd been in a fight!

I have had a rather marvellous 3 days off; a bit of post race, foot healing time out. I'm hoping that I'll be back with mojo and metatarsals fully restored from tomorrow!

Rollerbird · 06/05/2019 19:12

I did 3.82 miles today and it was so slow!
My legs were so heavy and tired - no idea why. I was over 11 mins each mile today versus under 10 mins per mile a few days ago for the same distance.
52.22

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 06/05/2019 21:48

I think we all have harder runs at some point. You still beat anyone on the sofa like me, hobbling about!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2019 21:54

That's what it's like Bear, but it's side rib pain. I'm not moaning though, it shows I put effort in Grin

It's funny how it goes Rollerbird, have you been overdoing it do you think?

countdowntonap · 06/05/2019 22:12

Can I join please? After running outside since Feb, I did my first race yesterday - 10km in 51.22 minutes.

The atmosphere was amazing, and I’ve truly caught the running bug after years of thinking that running wasn’t for me. Looking forward to being further inspired by this thread.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2019 22:19

woah countdown, that's a very good time!

Rollerbird · 07/05/2019 06:13

countdown Well done! Wow!

I'm using this thread for support and to keep myself accountable - my diet has gone to pot, so maybe lack of energy is linked to that?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/05/2019 07:39

Roller it can be due to your cycle too, in the weeks between ovulation and day 1 of your period (luteal phase) you can get that heavy legs feeling, plus I find I get a stitch more in that week. I read a runners world article on it once that was very informative

emummy · 07/05/2019 11:14

Welcome countdown, what a fantastic result!
Hope all the racers have recovered; I had a terrible sleep last night so instead of today's planned tempo run I went easy and just plodded along.

Thanks, everyone.
If you have a race in the evening, after work, when do you eat your main meal? I’m not sure how to beat fuel an evening race.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/05/2019 20:39

Countdown I'd really struggle with an evening race to be honest, Is this something you have imminently? I almost never run in the evening so I think I'd have to specifically train in the evenings to do it. Probably eat an early lunch (11am?) for a 5pm/6 pm start, maybe a isotonic gel at about 5 ish to help avoid a stitch?

CarrotPuff · 07/05/2019 20:58

I sometimes run after work, and I just run without eating and have dinner afterwards. Same way like I don't eat before morning run.

Went for my short mid week run and decided to challenge myself and ran up a steep hill. Sod that for a laugh! It was my slowest run ever, even once the hill was done!

66.8

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 07/05/2019 21:09

2.1 slow miles done. I mad I was posting on Facebook I’m sure I should describe as “easy recovery run now I’m tapering” but in reality it was short and slow because I’m knackered after too much BH wine and scared of my Achilles not playing ball! Still, nice and cool and easy.
Hope everyone is ok!

BusterTheBulldog · 07/05/2019 22:10

Well done on your pbs oybk and emummy!

I’m back on the thread after a slight sulk after deferring London. 24 miles so far in May. Lovely easy 4 last night and 7 at club tonight.

90.8

TriSkiRun99 · 08/05/2019 21:06

Just done my wed eve run. I wouldn’t chose to run this late 8-9pm but my DD is at her sports training so I run instead of just sitting there waiting for her and usually do 8-10k. The Trouble is it then takes me ages to get to sleep tonight as my body winds down, and then I’m up at 6am for work so do feel abit jaded in the morning. I’m up to 25k so far in May which is about 16.5m I’ll add on.

107.3

emummy · 09/05/2019 11:34

Lovely sunshine today but still freezing! Did an interval session on hilly forest tracks, good workout for my brain trying to time the hard efforts for the downhills!
Welcome back Buster!

I’m still here and lurking hardly been out running recently and not been out for well over a week. Had lots of reasons (excuses) including a big birthday which seems a very large number Shock
But hoping to get back in to it this weekend

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/05/2019 18:22

Is it normal to experience a post race period of 'blues' do you reckon, or am I just being dramatic?! My race was on 28th, I then had 2 more really good runs (felt like i was still on a bit of a high?) then since then i've really really struggled. My last run was awful, today's was ok but not great- the whole way just feeling really demotivated and 'meh' and also didn't get that nice 'glad I went' feeling afterwards.

Doesn't help that my trainers have ripped so I was wearing my old ones which felt heavy on my feet, but that's not normally a major issue like it was today?

Have ordered some new Brooks though, they should be here soon Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/05/2019 21:11

The Brooks will help!
I'm struggling to get out too sincethe weekend, knackered and it keeps pissing down.

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 10/05/2019 20:09

I think new shoes are always helpful. I also think some weeks are just hard then it gets better again.
3.5 done today - tapering before the half next weekend but felt quite good. Achilles holding up and treating myself to a massage for shoulders and low back to try and be on form! Bother can’t see number now
