This is a thread to talk about all things running and support each other through the highs and lows. All are welcome, from absolute beginners to experts!
We keep a running total of everyone's miles for the month, so feel free to add yours on. Current total for March is:

5.02 miles today for me. Turned my ankle walking the dog Sunday night. Fell in a hole 🤦🏼‍♀️

No swelling but a bit sore. But was fine to run thankfully

That sounds like a lovely run emummy!

5 miles mixed pace tonight. It's getting dark earlier now so I'll need to adjust some of my park - based routes as I don't like running them when it isn't daylight. Adding an easy 3 miles from earlier in the week.

73.2

Lily311 · 06/09/2019 18:23

Can I join pls?

I used to run 3 times a week and did 4 half marathons as well but stopped after getting pregnant last year. Baby nr 2 is now 7 months old and we have been out on a run 3 times this week. I run with a running buggy as I'm just dead tired by the time my OH comes back home in the afternoons.

Baby didn't like the first 2 runs so had to abort the mission after 15-20 min but today she has fallen asleep straight away so managed to run for 30 min.

I'm really out of shape and I am a stone heavier than pre pregnancy (ideally I need to lose 2 stones), my lower tummy muscles really hurt too. Stopped breastfeeding a month ago so boobs are not heavy finally.

I am also based in mainland Europe and I use km-s instead of miles if that's not a problem.

9,8 (km)

emummy · 06/09/2019 18:39

Welcome Lily! I am so impressed by anyone who can run with a young baby, so well done for getting out there. Be kind to yourself, I'm sure the weight loss and tummy muscle misbehaviour will all come good naturally now you are running. Did you run after your first baby too?

I did but never with a buggy. So this is all new now but actually it was better than I thought it would be. First Dd is nearly 7, it was easier at that time.

emummy · 07/09/2019 07:41

Buggy running looks tough, well done.
Easy early morning run for me today. Beautiful day but cold. Hot shower, coffee then parkrun for me now.

83.4 including Lily's

Welcome Lily I’m impressed with you running with a buggy. I struggle with the dog sometimes Grin
Went for a short one but kept going and did over 8. Didn’t take a drink with me but there were lots of blackberries along the way so ate those instead.
93.9 (today’s and short run during week)

With the weather feeling autumnal, I feel as if I'm getting back into the swing of things! I've done a couple of 10ks this week, and feels that my times are back where I think they should be (after a long hot summer of dire)

Long run this morning in beautiful sunshine. Was freezing at the start though, needed my gloves! Run went ok, had a bit of a mental wobble at one point and the 2nd last mile took a lot of willpower, but I got there in the end. And celebrated with a bottle of Irn-Bru from the shop! Now going to stand in a hot shower for the rest of the day!

Wow a running thread, can’t believe I didn’t find this sooner! Hoping ok to dive in. I’ve been running for 2 years usually 4 to 5 times a week. Belong to the local running club and try and enter one race a month to keep me motivated.
Was out for a practice 10miles with a friend ready for a relay race next weekend.

emummy · 08/09/2019 21:25

Welcome Paddington! Relay race sounds fun, good luck!

20 miles this afternoon with the same elevation gain as my marathon next month. Not as horrendous as I expected as I was knackered from lack of sleep having shared a bed with DD last night and been subjected to lots of kicking and wriggling. Just one more long run for me before I taper. Adding 3 miles from earlier this week.

159.8

emummy · 09/09/2019 10:29

Well done Stingy, I wonder if we are doing the same marathon?! Certainly on the same day anyway. My run yesterday was only 250ft more elevation than the race, think that's the closest I can get, it's better than last week which was 900 ft more!

OP posts:
Stingynettle · 09/09/2019 11:44

I'm doing Loch Ness emummy. 900 ft more will surely stand you in good stead for the marathon itself!

PetraDelphiki · 09/09/2019 13:00

May I join? Looking for advice on what to wear to run now it’s getting colder? My runs are very short compared to you all (5 k 40 mins) hoping to increase distance/speed but not time. Generally running mornings...

I love the look of sweaty Betty/lululemon but firstly my price point is more Primark and secondly I don’t think they go up to my size (I might try for amusement...I’m a generous 16 ish depending on shop)

Inspiration would be much appreciated!

Chesneyhawkes1 · 09/09/2019 13:16

Well done @Stingynettle! What a distance.

I did just over 5 miles off road Saturday, got a cold now so trying to sweat it out.

Today popped a Sudafed, cover myself in vicks and did just a just over 7 mile tempo run.

emummy · 09/09/2019 13:40

Loch Ness for me too Stingy, looking forward to it.
Hope your cold is better quickly Chesney.
Welcome Petra! Colder weather can be a challenge; I like arm sleeves, mine are from Decathlon, I wear them with a t shirt when it's a bit cooler, and they can then come off when I warm up. I have some good long sleeve tops from Ronhill which I've had for a few years and are still in good condition. A cap is good for wet days and a buff. I also like gilets; I have one from M&S and they are good for when it's cooler but not so cold that you need a full jacket. Price wise Sports Direct are ok, and their Karrimor brand is quite good. Also online sportsshoes.com is a good place to find cheaper clothes and shoes, and TK Max often has good brands.

OP posts:
emummy · 09/09/2019 13:42

Also Decathlon's Kalenjii make is quite good. When it gets really cold winter running tights are good, mine are from Ronhill but I think Kalenjii ones are meant to be good too.

IRun4Me · 09/09/2019 15:41

Welcome Paddington and Petra
I get very warm when running so like to layer. When it’s cooler I wear a long sleeve zip front running top then I can undo it as I warm up or tie around my waist. I have to admit nowadays I have so much running gear for every distance/weather/time of day. Well that’s my excuse Blush

Well done on the Marathon training is it your first?

Just a short faster one in the rain today
174.8

Stingynettle · 09/09/2019 17:08

It's my first marathon IRun4Me so I'm a bit apprehensive about it.

I hope the run wards off the cold Chesney!

I second the Kalenjii winter running tights. I have the brushed cotton lined ones and they are very warm and comfy. I also have a merino wool Ronhill long sleeved top which is brilliant for keeping a cold wind out without making you too sweaty.

Stingynettle · 09/09/2019 17:10

Have you done Loch Ness before emummy? It looks like a beautiful course.

emummy · 09/09/2019 19:16

I haven't done Loch Ness, I have done London & St Magnus on Orkney. The Orkney one is way hillier & it was 23 degrees so hoping Loch Ness will be a little more pleasant! Am really looking forward to it now.

OP posts:
Stingynettle · 09/09/2019 19:38

23 degrees in Orkney must be a rare occurrence! Hopefully it will be cooler than that for Loch Ness in October.

PaddingtonPaddington · 09/09/2019 21:19

Hills session tonight, hard up and easy down 3 different hills 3 times.

I think I need arms sleeves they sound really useful.

Good luck with the marathons.
