Anyone fancy doing a triathlon training thread? Sprint or Olympic or GOTri or Ironman or whatever? Compare training, schedules, competitions and the mega kit fest that is triathlon.

There have been a couple of threads in the last year or two but they’ve dropped off the radar. Please join me! Smile

Well done on Blenheim looks like a fab event.
Good luck for your events this weekend hope the weather is kind for you, and the nerves settle.

I’ve had a crap week zero exercise due to virus/cold wiped me out and my eldest off school with it too, but starting to feel bit more human today.

Lifeisabeach · 06/06/2019 10:05

Argh! My spare bedroom floor is covered in all my kit and I’m just staring at it and feeling confused!! Can’t figure out what to pack, what’s needed for the red and blue bags, what’s going on the bike etc. Maybe I’ll just throw it all in the car and figure it out when I get there. Confused

Lifeisabeach · 06/06/2019 10:05

Meant to say, hope you’re feeling better TriSkiRun

TriSkiRun99 · 07/06/2019 07:50

Hope you can get your kit sorted life, does doing a mental run through visualising it in your head what your doing at each stage, write down what your wearing help at all? That’s what I did, then my DD & I literally did a run through in the house Grin we had giggle doing it but it highlighted a couple things we had forgotten. DD did the kids Tri.

Still in bed, the cold was followed by a D&V bug yesterday Sad so I’m utterly fed up now, but after zero food for 36hrs the positive is maybe I’ve kick started my diet ...gutted I’m going to miss ParkRun two weeks in a row as I really enjoy doing it and having a chat with some folk I wouldn’t normally see.

Nateismine · 07/06/2019 13:51

Life I haven't got much in my Run bag: trainers, lube, sunglasses, gels, bottle of Tailwind to carry, run watch. Am I missing anything?

mylittlefidget · 07/06/2019 18:28

Nate and life are you in Stafford yet? I arrived this afternoon. So exciting. I've also got a fresh pair of socks in my run bag (although it doesn't look like rain at the moment), and a buff although I might go for one of the sun visors at the expo instead.

Nateismine · 07/06/2019 19:19

My little - how exciting! I'm travelling up tomorrow. Tell us more! I'm really nervous....

Igottastartthinkingbee · 07/06/2019 20:10

Oh good luck Staffs 70.3ers!

Just sorting my stuff for tomorrow’s registration in Leeds. Lists lists lists!

We’re travelling up tomorrow morning too. Mostly packed now, OH has just been giving me a lesson in removing my back wheel!

Lifeisabeach · 07/06/2019 20:36

And have you seen Lucy Charles is racing Staffs?

Igottastartthinkingbee · 07/06/2019 21:43

Ooh how exciting! She’s a legend!

mylittlefidget · 08/06/2019 05:49

Igot- good luck in Leeds. That looks like a great triathlon to do as well. Nate and Life, have a good journey to Stafford today. I looked at the pro registration board yesterday and Lucy Charles hadn't signed it yet - she is such a legend, I'd love to spot her somewhere! Are you guys going to be up here in time for the practice swim? I'll drive up there this morning to rack the bike but can't decide whether to actually swim or not, it's raining here still and my hotel room is quite cold so am worried about the wetsuit not drying in time. What do you guys think?

Nateismine · 08/06/2019 06:35

I won't be there in time for the swim practice but I would have liked to do it: the more I know the less nervous I feel! Good luck everyone. Smile

Lifeisabeach · 08/06/2019 12:19

We decided not to do the practice swim as it would have made the day such a rush and we didn’t think much would be gained. We’ve done registration, briefing and red bag racking, grabbed something for lunch from Asda and are now on the way to Chasewater.

Nateismine · 08/06/2019 14:05

The swim is going to be freezing!

mylittlefidget · 08/06/2019 17:16

I know Nate, I'm trying to stay calm about the swim but the water is significantly colder than the reservoir down South I trained in 😬. I hope it'll be ok. Fingers crossed for all of us tomorrow.

Lifeisabeach · 08/06/2019 20:23

Lots of luck for tomorrow everyone! I’m so scared but trying to think positive and visualise reaching the finish line. Really hope we all enjoy the experience Smile

TriSkiRun99 · 08/06/2019 20:35

Good luck everyone I hope it goes well and you all smash your goals Star

mylittlefidget · 09/06/2019 18:17

Thanks Tri! How did everyone get on in Leeds and Staffordshire? I loved it :-). I hope everyone enjoyed today.

Lifeisabeach · 09/06/2019 21:29

Well done Fidget and hope your races went well Nate and bee.

What an amazing day that was! Each leg was really challenging. The swim seemed quite choppy and I went a bit off course at times. The bike seemed to be hill after hill after hill. And that hill to the castle on the run was a killer! I loved it all though and I made it to the end in a time I was really happy with. Fantastic support all around the course and such a special atmosphere at the finish, I was nearly crying running down the red carpet and through the finish arch. Still trying to work out what I did for 12 minutes in T1!!

I am so ready for bed now!

Nateismine · 09/06/2019 21:51

Well done everybody. I had a great race apart from a panic attack during the swim. I live in Dorset so the bike was flat for me and I loved it. Agree with the horrible castle hill. Shocked and delighted with my time- over an hour faster than I was expecting. Great atmosphere there and everyone I spoke to was lovely. We were soooo lucky with the weather. I burst into tears at the end too! Very proud of myself todaySmile. Now shower and bed.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 09/06/2019 22:08

Wow well done Nate and life! Great that you both completed with good times.

Leeds was harder than I remember! My swim went better than last year but I was slightly slower for everything else 🤦🏼‍♀️ Haven’t been feeling great all week so that’s my excuse 😆 Lots of support on course was great and I stayed on afterwards to watch the elites. So inspiring!!!

OP posts:
mylittlefidget · 10/06/2019 05:45

Igot, that's amazing that you got to watch the elites and Leeds looks like an amazing race to do. I hoped to spot Lucy Charles somewhere but didn't. Nate and Lifeis, really well done. I'm so pleased we all had good races. I loved the bike course too, it was such good fun. The long slog up to the castle- not so much 😂. Good work everyone.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 10/06/2019 11:44

I totally recommend Leeds, tri in the morning, brilliant sport in the afternoon. The elite races are a great spectacle because once they’ve reached the city centre they do several laps on the bike and again on the run. I watched the start of the men’s swim and then out of transition. Then drove 10mins into town and watched the rest of the race. It was ace!

Lifeisabeach · 10/06/2019 20:43

Staffs ladies, have you looked at your race photos? There are some shockers of me coming out of the lake, I look totally dazed and confused! Some good ones though on the bike and finish line. Debating whether to buy them.

bee Leeds sounds fantastic, definitely one to consider for next year.

What are your plans for future races? Anyone tempted by a full Ironman? I’m not sure I could manage the run...but then I thought the same about the half distance run..!
