Early EARLY morning exercise

Does anyone exercise at 6 in the morning routinely? I think it might be good but i'm so lazy. Can any early birds convert me?

I’m out by 6.30 for a run.

It’s brillaint.

wonderandwander · 25/10/2018 19:39

I’m always so surprised there are not more early morning runners out

It is heavenly. The peace

IRun4Me · 26/10/2018 09:59

I’ve been moaning on the running thread about struggling to get back in to my running routine. I think my answer is here.
I used to be able to get out of bed early no problem but nowadays it is such a struggle, my sleep is so rubbish that those extra few minutes in a warm cosy bed when it’s dark outside feel so precious.

OK no more excuses!!! I’m going to make a real effort....... tomorrow Grin

The local pool opens at 6am. If I'm there at that time I can get a swim in before work.

If I don't, I'm so busy at work I rarely get a lunch break and I'm not often home in time for an evening run. So basically, it's the only time I can guarantee is free of other obligations.

FlamingJuno · 26/10/2018 11:07

PT session at 06:30. I hate the thought of it, but love it when I've done it. Fab way to start the day in summer, always a challenge on a cold February morning Wink.

waycat · 26/10/2018 14:47

My gym opens at 6.00am every day, weekends included, and unless I’m really ill I’m there at opening time.

Come 7.30 I’ve finished, showered and am in the car on my way home.

Best start to the day for me, but I realise early mornings aren’t everyone’s forte. I’ve always been a morning person, I don’t “do” evenings at all.

chrispenrallt1 · 26/10/2018 20:31

I go running 5 mornings a week leaving the house at 5.20 am. I have a torch on my head as it’s pitch black now. It’s much nicer in the summer when the sun is up. My dog runs with me. This morning we saw a badger on the path! I run to try and keep my weight down. 3 years ago I was almost 18 stone. It’s a lot easier running now than it was when I started and I’m around 11.2 now. I did not lose the weight purely by running though!

BaaRamU · 26/10/2018 20:34

Yes! In the gym three mornings a week at 6am. I'm a snoozer so have two alarms, one at 5am and one at 5.30am. I'm usually done with my workout by 6.45am and home by 7am to get ready for work :) I do have time in the evenings but I just prefer to get it out the way. Never thought I'd get into a routine like this but been doing it pretty consistently for a year and a half now!

multivac · 26/10/2018 20:41

I am absolutely not a morning person - given that I have to get up before I want to five days a week for work anyway, it makes sense for me to get up even earlier (6.10) so I can have run 5k before I do anything else. I always resent the prospect of doing it, I ALWAYS feel much, much better for having done it. Especially with a hangover.

ivykaty44 · 26/10/2018 20:45

During the winter I do, spin, swimming or Pilates depending on the day, then shower, make-up and straight to work from the gym. I make coffee before I leave and take with me. Night before everything is ready, clothing, food etc

IceniSky · 26/10/2018 20:50

I use to run at 0600, but now I start my 40 minute commute at 0610 and now rarely exercise because I have no motivation to do it after work.

ShotsFired · 26/10/2018 21:05

@LiquoriceWheel you're asking on the best weekend of the year!

Because if you want to get up an hour earlier, you just need to get up at the same time as this week after the clocks go back!

I already get up v early but am considering that exact plan for that exact reason!

chrispenrallt1 · 27/10/2018 08:48

I am looking forward to Monday morning being a tiny bit lighter but I will still have to have the torch on my head! It’s a bind to go but I do feel so much better after going.

ivykaty44 · 27/10/2018 10:57

The great thing about this weekend is the clicks go back - but leave you body click on summer time and set your alarm an hour earlier to get to the gym or go for a run before work.

Your body is used to waking at this time anyway and it makes it easier to start the habit now - in three weeks your body and mind will be used to this routine

LiquoriceWheel · 27/10/2018 14:00

I've just come back to the thread and am so amazed and enthused by all the replies!

I didn't end up going early when i said 'tomorrow' BUT i should have packed everything the night before like previous posters suggested. I will definitely try on Monday though. I'm always late for things so I really need this to work for me (and retrain my brain). And i want the secret smugness that early birds have!

What I find helps is having the prospect of a lovely coffee before I head out

So alarm at 5.50
I wake
I think of lovely coffee and get myself out of bed.
Half hour later I’m pounding the empty streets. Bliss.

ShotsFired · 28/10/2018 07:46

@LiquoriceWheel how did you get on?

chrispenrallt1 · 28/10/2018 08:33

I am thinking of the lovely coffee when I’m halfway round. I get to the gate where I turn round to head for home and I swear I can almost smell it.
It’s funny but I really do miss the running when I don’t do it. I go early as I don’t really want to see anybody as I still don’t have a very good self image of my self.
Hope you have had a go today licoricewheel. Let us know how you got on!

Workreturner · 28/10/2018 09:06

Oh I have my lovely coffee before I run

Then another lovely decaf when I get back

chrispenrallt1 · 28/10/2018 09:22

I’m best running on empty as it were, but I do enjoy that coffee when I get back!

SinglePringle · 28/10/2018 09:33

Yep, every day I’m up at 5.45, out and on the Train by 6.15 (I need coffee first). Get to the gym at 7, swim for 1000 metres then change and in the office by 8.30 (gym is 5 min walk from office).

I put my costume on at home, with my work clothes over the top. Towel etc are provided by gym and I have a permanently packed wash bag with all my stuff.

I decide what I’m wear & pack appropriate underwear every night when I get in from work.

I LOVE getting it done first thing.

haba · 28/10/2018 09:38

I have been contemplating this too. May I ask what time you honestly need to be in bed to manage? I am such a night owl, and I have to get up at six already to do DD's food for school (she has v restricted diet due to illnesses, leaves for school at 7).
But I know I can't fit in exercise elsewhere in the day, and i used to he so fit!

Parker231 · 28/10/2018 09:42

Personal trainer or gym class at 6.30am - done it for years now so it’s (almost) routine.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 28/10/2018 09:48

You’re all brilliant and I needed this today. I’m not exercising at all the moment and I feel awful, I’ve just rejoined the gym - 24hr and
