Not yet. I decided to just rest yesterday and try and get my head sorted about this work issue. I will go later today when it is cooler.

I've got quite a difficult week ahead of me and possibly next week too so I'm going to repeat W4 to get it nailed and boost my confidence a bit. I find any running success for me has to come from a positive place mentally and week 5 is too much of a leap right now whilst I'm feeling so worried about other stuff.

Helpmeplan · 07/05/2018 08:50

Can I join? Until last year I was running 3 x per week and was getting fitter. Now we've moved and I've had viral meningitis I'm struggling. On top of that after 24 years my dp and I are getting married and I want to drop 1st to feel better about myself.

RocketPockets · 07/05/2018 09:20

How is everyone getting on running in the heat? I normally run early morning so it's not too bad but today I've just finished W5R3 (I think) the first 20min run which I thought was going to be impossible but I did it and I feel good!
I'm looking at getting a running belt that has those small water bottles on. Is there any that anyone would recommend? I'm getting a dry mouth while I run and don't like stopping to use the taps on the beach.
I never thought I'd stick to this but I'm so glad I did and I measured myself yesterday and have lost 2 inches from each thigh and an inch from my waist, hips and arms!

FATEdestiny · 07/05/2018 13:39

I'm hating running in the heat almost as much as I hate running in driving rain.

I go out because I feel I should, and because the dog needs a walk anyway. I'm post C25K (graduated 2 weeks ago) so I'm running without a program now. But I find in the heat I run much less than I would if overcast.

Well done on the W5R3 20 minute run - it's by far the most enjoyable and significant run. It sort-of all changes after this run and you start to feel like a 'proper' runner.

Hi everyone, some amazing progress going on well done!

I'm disappointed to say I stalled a bit after 6 weeks of dedication and progress. It's been pretty hot where I am for a few weeks now and it's made things a lot harder. My running times are restricted like most of us due to DC and I am going to have to start going out at 6am to make this work as later in day is horrible.

However I've just about got back on track now I think, completed w7r2 now (took 2 attempts at both this week's runs) so still aiming to finish the programme before the end of May.

Travellinghopefully2018 · 07/05/2018 20:51

Congratulations and welcome helpme! A wedding is an exciting goal to focus on Smile

catbingo sorry you had a bad run. Tough when you’re in a hard place mentally, I hope you have a good run next time which makes up for it.

travelling sounds like we are at a similar point as I’ve really slowed down recently. I did w7r3 yesterday. It was hot and I found it hard but was with a friend so got through it. I have discovered I can’t really talk while running. I felt out of breath the whole time whereas normally I feel like that settles after 5 mins. I’m finding these longer runs hard going. Does anyone know if it clicks eventually? Or will it always feel like a slog Shock

Dancergirl · 07/05/2018 23:28

I've finished Week 2!

Bit nervous about next week, running for THREE minutes. How did everyone find Week 3?

Luuby86 · 08/05/2018 00:46

Just finished w6. Did run 3 this afternoon at 2pm, you know when it was 31°.......yeah great idea, not!! Should have been a 25min run, but at 12.5 minutes in we decided to add in a walking break for safety reasons, before running the rest. Tomorrow we are moving on to week7 anyway, as it was just the heat that caused us to stop, a few degrees cooler and we probably would have been OK.

Now starting to look towards booking in our first event.... 😬😬😬

User10661815 · 08/05/2018 06:58

Dancergirl W3 was surprisingly doable. I was worried about it like you are but it was ok in the end.

Helpmeplan · 08/05/2018 09:01

Thank you Travelling I might have to elongate the training just because I am still exhausted after my illness

Travellinghopefully2018 · 08/05/2018 09:29

That sounds sensible helpme take it at your own pace.

Ooh Luuby what are you going to book? Exciting! I would like to book something but I’m nervous to do anything on my own. All of my friends who run are hard core marathon types, so don’t feel I can ask them to come and tootle round a 5km with me! Part of the incentive for me to get up to 10km will be to have some company haha!

I went back to my old flat route this morning as I felt tired and managed the run ok. I was mega slow compared to my last couple of runs though! Still that’s w8r1 done. Unfortunately probably not going to manage to run until Saturday now though unless I get up mega early! Still I’ve done every other day for last 3 runs so maybe a slightly longer break will be ok.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 08/05/2018 11:52

Parkrun would be a good “dipping your toe in the water” event. I’ve put one in the calendar for 2 June which will be w9r1 for me. Got up early today and did W5R2 - tired but rather that than doing it after work.

whereshalligo · 08/05/2018 12:01

New Poster here have been reading the thread with interest had no problems with weeks so far but just tried and failed at 12 mins the W5 R3 20 minutes so need to redo that one. Bit disappointed that didn't manage it but on the other hand did 12 mins which is a vast improvement from when I started. Got a 5k booked for July so still plenty of time.

RocketPockets · 08/05/2018 19:31

Whereshalligo
I think it's more of a mental thing, it certainly was for me anyway! I was sure I wouldn't be able to do it but I did. Don't let the fact you didn't manage it first go put you off, 12 mins like you said is a massive improvement and I'm sure you'll be able to build on that. If you feel by the halfway point you're struggling then slow down. Smile

I need to book in a 5k to do for when I'll be finished with C25K we've got a local half marathon we can do in October and I'm sure there's a 10k fairly local in between as well! I'm really enjoying running, much more than I thought I would.

User10661815 · 08/05/2018 19:37

Feeling a bit gutted here as I need to take at least a week out due to injury. I've done something to my foot - I did it in week 3 and I've still been running on it and it's just not healing, so I think I just need to give it a proper rest for a week. Will go back to week three when I restart. Super annoyed about it as was so excited to be passing the half way point round about now and am beginning to enjoy it.

Helpmeplan · 09/05/2018 08:19

Wednesday run day. Am tired. Its warm. Ran for 20 minutes.

Not happy with my flabby belly but it'll reduce in time

Helpmeplan · 09/05/2018 09:06

Just depressed myself by weighing myself. 11st. Ffs thought I was 10st 7lb. Best get working!

User10661815 · 09/05/2018 14:25

Hi Helpmeplan it sounds to me like you've had a hell of a year and it really takes time to get over something as horrible as viral meningitis. Give yourself a break if you can. You are already running great times now and the weight will drop off once you are running regularly.

When are you getting married?

Helpmeplan · 09/05/2018 18:26

October 2019, so will hopefully easily achieve. Just feel meh. Do not want to fall off the wagon

User10661815 · 09/05/2018 20:24

You have lots of time, then, which is great! Tell me about your wedding - are you having a big white wedding or something smaller? I love weddings!!!

Dancergirl · 09/05/2018 20:27

catbingo did W3R1 yesterday and as you said, it was easier than I had thought.

Sorry to hear about your injury Sad Wishing you a speedy recovery. Very annoying.

Helpmeplan · 09/05/2018 20:56

cat we are getting married in a nice registry office in an afternoon ceremony followed by a sit down meal and cake and booze.

I am wearing a proper wedding dress. Dp a suit. Only having our parents and bil and sil though. So 9 in total. We have spent on transport and the reception. Cannot wait tbh.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 09/05/2018 21:26

Well done everyone. W5R3 for me tomorrow 😬.
Catbingo sorry about your injury and general work stuff, hope you get back on track soon.
Helpmeplan love a wedding - congratulations 😀

CatNut2017 · 10/05/2018 06:32

Good luck Avon for your 20 min run.

I am on W4R3 this morning. Glad it has stopped raining.
