Walking in the walking buts of the program if fine, it's what you are supposed to do. But walking, say, 3 minutes into a 5 minute run would be considered not completing the run.

It's OK to take your pace down if needed, but keep on running. It's much better to start far slower than you think you need and then as the run progresses increase your pace if you have more to give (or don't, and just keep a consistent slower pace, which is fine too).

The single most important thing in C25K is to complete each bit of every run. Pace and speed is of no consequence to succeeding. A slow is jog is fine.

...is that cheating??

This is your journey you fitness, no one else's. So nothing is "cheating". If you can't manage a run, repeat it. Or go back a week. Everyone has bad runs and bad days. Just pick yourself up and try again.

If you couldn't finish a run then you were going too fast. Slow down and relax when running.

MirandaWest · 07/06/2018 21:07

Did week 7 run 1 today. Felt glad I'd done it but didn’t feel like it at the time Grin.

Have said to DS I might try a park run at the weekend. He last did one nearly a year ago and was just under 24 minutes then (and I’m sure is generally faster by now at 14.5) but it might be the last match of the NBA basketball finals at 2am on Saturday morning so he may or may not join meGrin.

Have done them before but this is a new course here since January that we haven’t tried yet.

CatNut2017 · 08/06/2018 14:22

Hi all,

if any of you are doing park runs this Saturday, please report back.

I completed Week 8 today. I still can't quite believe I can run for nearly half an hour.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 09/06/2018 09:53

Last C25K run done Grin. 4K in 30 mins. So pleased. Plan now is to try and increase distance covered ready for 23 June Parkrun. Well done all of us Flowers

MirandaWest · 09/06/2018 13:38

I did the park run Smile DH came and watched as is coughing a lot at the moment and DS was a lazy lump and stayed in bed.

I did it in 30 min 28 seconds Shock had my week 7 run 2 on and just kept running after 25 min. There were some fast people there but plenty slower than me too. Here’s some of DHs pictures of me

MirandaWest · 09/06/2018 13:42

Had an email and I was 214th out of 316. And the 82nd female

comeagainforbigfudge · 09/06/2018 17:40

Thanks Avon and Pink!

I completed w1r2 today. Work and the heat got in way but i went out first thing this morning. Was ok. Pleased with myself for doing it though

CatNut2017 · 09/06/2018 19:02

Thank you Miranda for reporting back. avon I am due to do a Park Run on 23rd June but I have only just completed week 8 of the programme.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 09/06/2018 20:49

Miranda wow that’s fab - you look great too!
Cat perfect timing then - imagine if we’re doing the same Parkrun Shock

MirandaWest · 10/06/2018 15:29

Thank you 😊 am slightly wondering if it was a one off - will have to see how my week 7 run 3 goes ans whether I can still run Grin

CatNut2017 · 10/06/2018 19:04

Avon , my Park Run is in south west London. I suspect I will be one of the ones at the back.

I managed 4K in my week 9 Run 1 this morning. I am aiming at completing the 5k within 40 minutes - assuming I can run that long. The last 10 minutes this morning were really hard.

Travellinghopefully2018 · 10/06/2018 21:25

Well done Avon and Miranda!

I’ve finished c25km and did my first park run this weekend too! Loved it Smile

Oscha · 10/06/2018 22:34

Can I ask, is the program designed to get us running 5k in 30 mins, or just 30 mins? I assumed the latter and that the 5k in the name was a misnomer, but my friend insists we’re supposed to be working on speeding up so as to do 5k in the time. I’m currently on 7.2 and doing about 3.5k in 25 mins, so am clearly nowhere near 5k in 30 and it’s making me feel a bit disheartened!

CatNut2017 · 11/06/2018 07:12

Hi @Oscha, I agree with you. It is just 30 minutes. All the podcasts/ forums focus on the time, not the distance.

slowrun · 11/06/2018 07:13

Very supportive of your friend, Osha! (not).

Think of this - regardless of how your speed compares to other people's you are giving your body a good workout. That workout would be the same as someone who was faster and running with the same amount of effort. Added to this if your strides are smaller you might even be doing more steps and expending more effort so getting a better workout!

MirandaWest · 11/06/2018 07:43

It is about being able to run for 30 min. For some people that’s 5k and for most people it isn’t. Is a slight pity it was called couch to 5k rather than couch to 30 minutes.

Did week 7 run 3 this morning. Would quite like to just sit for a bit now but start work at 8am (I work from home so not too bad)

FATEdestiny · 11/06/2018 08:19

If you move on to the C25K Plus podcasts after you finish C25K, that is the first time the training programe starts encouraging you to run to a set pace.

C25K is to get you running for 30 minutes. After finishing is when you can start thinking about getting fast and running for longer.

Dancergirl · 11/06/2018 09:15

If you couldn't finish a run then you were going too fast

Yup, thank you fate I have just discovered this!

I did W6R3 with dh at the weekend. Even though I didn't think I was running fast, he said I was. I slowed right down and managed the whole run Smile It was very useful having him there.

Now this week I am going to repeat Week 6 again before moving on.

miranda well done, that's fantastic!

Oscha · 11/06/2018 13:38

Thank you, I feel better!

AvonCallingBarksdale · 11/06/2018 19:58

I experimented today with mapping out a 4.25k route before running then set my stopwatch going. According to that I did 4.25k in 31 mins - sounds a bit fast for me, but I’m sticking to it! Grin

PoopMaster · 11/06/2018 21:12

Started c25k again after a fortnight of rest for my sore knee. I'd got to W7R7 but have gone back to W6R1, felt a bit of a twinge after the second interval but kept going slowly, then when I got home rolled a frozen bottle of water along the back of the knee and under my foot (recommended by another mum). Felt perfectly fine all day, yay! Hoping to carry on now with 2 days rest between each run and see how it all goes.

So pleased to be getting back into it, I was starting to really miss my morning runs. Hoping to graduate soon and join Park Run!

ArieltheMermaid1720 · 12/06/2018 09:12

I did week 5 run 3 yesterday and like others felt really emotional when I finished. I was on a treadmill which is cheating a bit, but I was also on holiday so I think I get bonus points for that. I managed 2.5k in the 20 mins, so will need to work on upping my speed, but the feeling of achievement was incredible. Almost lookkng forward to my next run which for me is something I never thought would happen.

RocketPockets · 12/06/2018 11:29

Haven't been out for a week and I'm really missing it! I'm going later on today hopefully and going to try to run to a pace of 6:40 per km.
I was going to do a park run this Saturday but DH is working and I don't think anyone can have my DS so hopefully next weekend! Well done to all those that are still going, it feels amazing when you get to the end of it, I'm now planning different runs around where I live to get a bit of variety Smile

PoopMaster · 12/06/2018 15:05

Lol just noticed W7R7...err no (that would definitely destroy my knees!) run 2 more like!

PoopMaster · 12/06/2018 15:06

Not sure how fast I'm running yet, will have to use Strava to work it out - but then everyone will see how boring I am with my route selecting Grin
