upsy on week two the app I have says to breath in to the count of four as your left foot hits the ground and then out again to the count of four.

so it's L-R-L-R INNNNNNN AND L-R-L-R OUUUUUUTTT

I did think it might have been more helpful to mention this on week 1 mind you! I have the Sarah millican one....maybe the bbc one, you get to choose from 4 slebs.

Anyway, I am done with Week 2, but I think I am going to repeat it until the end of the week, just to get a rhythm up. As I am on the cross trainer it tells me the distance, and friday I had to do more "cool down" walking to get to 12k, but today I pushed a bit harder on the "runs" and was 12.5 at the end of the cool down.

FATEdestiny · 04/06/2018 12:22

12k during one 30 minute C25K run MsHomeSlice? That can't be right. Mo Farah runs 5K in 13 minutes. You'd be on pace for the Olympics!

Funny BBC article where three experienced runners try to match Mo Farah's 5k pace

mostdays · 04/06/2018 12:30

This is my fifth attempt at c25k. On the first 4 goes, it was week 4 that did for me, every time. Last Thursday I completed week 4 for the first time ever- I didn't even have to repeat a day! And I was staggered to complete week 5 day 1 on Saturday. But I have got into a really negative frame of mind about the rest of the week. I don't see myself completing wk5 d2, let alone that insane 20 minute run on d3. I'm torn between doing d1 again tonight, to try and make myself feel more prepared, and just going for it and doing d2 with the knowledge that if it's beyond me I can do d1 again until I feel ready to step up. What would you do?

MirandaWest · 04/06/2018 12:38

I would try run 2. As you managed week 4 run 3 fine then trust in yourself and give week 5 run 2 a go Smile

MsHomeSlice · 04/06/2018 13:58

it's on the cross trainer @fatedestiny, so it's way easier! Like cycling! Mind you , I have no idea how accurate it is, it's just a number, I like to have a nice number to work to.

I seriously feckered my ridiculously flimsy ankles doing it on the roads a year or so back so I am taking it as steadily as possible

PinkSuitcases · 04/06/2018 14:47

@mostdays I say go for it. If you don't complete it, do the best you can and try again two days later. You'll get there! Absolutely nothing to feel bad about if you don't get it first time.

mostdays · 04/06/2018 16:10

@MirandaWest and @PinkSuitcases- wk 5 d2 it is then. I will report back! Thank you for the encouragement :)

MirandaWest · 04/06/2018 17:26

Just did week 6 run 3 Smile decided to find out how far I can run so used Nike plus as used to use it when I ran a while ago and I did nearly 4K in 25 min. So if I could keep that up then it would be 5k in a bit over 31 min which I’d be very happy with

comeagainforbigfudge · 04/06/2018 20:12

Can i join u? Just completed wk1 run1 but you all seem most of the way through. Should i start my own, or i have i just skimmed past other first weekers?

Ive attempted this many many times and never ever completed it. But this time will surely stick?! Grin

mostdays · 05/06/2018 09:05

I did it! When the app said "one minute left" I was running along grinning like an absolute loon knowing I was going to finish. Week 5 day 3 here I come them (not looking forward to that at all!) Thank you for telling me to go for it, I'm a glad I did :)

AvonCallingBarksdale · 05/06/2018 11:59

Woo hoo that’s fab, mostdays Grin

AvonCallingBarksdale · 05/06/2018 12:00

Comeagain everyone is welcome Smile I think there are definitely people here who are just starting out.

PinkSuitcases · 05/06/2018 16:02

@mostdays brilliant!!!!

@comeagainforbigfudge I'm only on week 2! (Have had to have a few days off as knees are so painful...hoping to be back on it soon so we may end up in line!)

RocketPockets · 05/06/2018 18:12

I'm a graduate!!! 🏃‍♀️
Did my final run this morning and I'm so pleased!!!
Those of you that feel like it's impossible it really isn't, I'm planning on doing 5k for a couple of weeks then I'm going to slowly increase to 10k Grin

Dancergirl · 05/06/2018 18:49

Hello fellow runners, well done to everyone and welcome to the newbies Smile

I've had a bit of a gap as we were away for half term. So I repeated W5R2 when I got back which I found quite hard.

Today I did W5R3 - massive jump! Running for 20 minutes?? I couldn't do it Blush I tried to run as much as I can but changed to walking when it got difficult.

What shall I do now? Go back to W5R2? Or carry on? Help please!

Pebblespony · 05/06/2018 19:06

Advice please. How long after bronchitis should I wait till going back running? I'm pretty much over it, just the dry, irritating cough towards the end that can linger for ages. Any experience?

Pebblespony · 05/06/2018 19:09

@dancergirl I'd be inclined to do W5R2 again in your circumstances but that's just me.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 06/06/2018 10:29

Pebblespony if I was you I’d just give it a go beating in mind you may need to stop if you’re coughing.
I did W9R2 on the road today. I’m so pleased - I was in my own, no DS to keep me going and I managed 4K in the 30 mins so I’m delighted. I took a selfie at the end sticking my tongue out and giving the middle finger to the voice that had me wavering at the start Grin. Not doing Parkrun this Saturday now as DS is away and he wants to do it together. He’s helped me a lot so we’ll aim for 23 June (even though he’s a 19:30 runner for 5k...)
Today was the first time I REALLY felt “yes, you can definitely do this”!

mostdays · 07/06/2018 08:36

I did week 5 day 3! Not going to lie, between 15 and 19 minutes I was having to mentally yell at myself to keep going but oh my god the satisfaction when I finished. I felt so proud I was almost crying during the final minute :)

FATEdestiny · 07/06/2018 10:10

I had a little cry upon finishing W5R3, I remember thr euphoria so clearly. Well done, it's a fantastic feeling that will stay with you.

What you need to watch now.... don't go out too fast on the W6R1 run. It's all too easy to think "I can do this now" and completely outpace yourself then run out of steam before you finish. Go slow and steady.

Oscha · 07/06/2018 12:57

I did 6.3 this morning and I felt like Mo Farah 😆 (never mind that Mo was probably faster than me when he was 18mo!).

Dancergirl · 07/06/2018 14:28

After redoing one of the Week 5 runs, I did W6R1 today thinking it would be easier as it was back to 5 or 8 min runs rather than a continuous 20.

After a good start, I now feel I'm not doing very well and I don't know what to do Sad

I couldn't even manage a 5 or 8 min run without slowing down to a walk for a few seconds every so often. Maybe I'm just lazy I don't know. And I get so hot especially my face.

Feeling a bit of a failure today and don't know how to proceed.

Pebblespony · 07/06/2018 16:34

Running in this heat is torture. I'm not made for 23 degrees. The dog nearly passed out. Not going till 10 tonight so should be better.

FATEdestiny · 07/06/2018 17:04

Dancergirl, if you read around the various forums on C25K (including here on MN), you'll see a regular theme expressing exactly what you've said.

It's quite usual to really struggle with Week 6, many people do. Indeed while most would say Week 5 is the best week in terms of the feeling of achievement (better even than Week 9), Week 6 usually wins the vote for worst/hardest week.

Trust the program though. Honestly, just move finish every run and move on. As I said in my post above, they key in Week 6 is to not get over-confident. Drop your pace significantly.

Finishing is much more important than speed.

And consisting pace is better than fast jog / slow jog. Find a pace you can maintain, it doesn't matter how slow it is, just that you can maintain it to the end.

Dancergirl · 07/06/2018 17:14

Thank you fate If I'm stopping during a run for a short while (walking rather than stopping altogether), is that cheating??
