Anyone up for a 'Run 1000k or miles' in 2018 challenge

Tiredemma · 26/12/2017 19:05

Last year I swore I would get fitter and joined a FB run 1000k or miles challenge. Did ok through Jan and Feb.

Then my Mum died very unexpectedly on Feb 28th and everything went downhill from then. I have lacked the will, motivation, confidence to get back out there. I think im quite possible a little bit depressed so know that I need to do 'something' to keep me distracted.

I intend to challenge myself again but think I might find more get up to go and actually do it if I have some challenging buddies on here?

I cant do it in miles just jet- I think I would be setting myself up to fail but I do think I can push the Km again.

Plan to start Jan 1st. Not sure if someone else already has a thread going? if so please direct me- if not not then please join me.

Good luck! 1000k is 11 miles a week, acheiveable but by no means easy. What kind of running are you doing at the moment?

Pinkponiesrock · 26/12/2017 21:26

I’ve signed up on strava to do the 1000 miles in 2018.
That’s about 20 miles a week, sort of doable, I think!
We should start a weekly log of how much we’ve run. I always get going well for a month or two then life gets in the way and it all goes downhill Sad

MsJaneAusten · 26/12/2017 21:34

Oooh. I’d be interested in this. What’s the fb group name?

SkiGirl007 · 26/12/2017 21:52

Yes I’m going to aim for 1000km, I’ve been running for a year and did 750km in the last 12mths so I think it’s doable 18-20k a week.
Just been checking out virtual medals for it Grin

80sMum · 26/12/2017 21:57

There's no way I could run more than 100 yards, but I do love walking, so I have signed up for "Walk 1000 Miles".

CottonEyeNinnyMuggins · 27/12/2017 07:38

I’m going for 1000k this year. I over ambitiously signed up for 1000miles in 2017 and missed it quite dramatically. Was doing well at the start of this year while marathon training, but then got ill and needed an operation which pushed me back. I will finish this year on around 600miles, so think 1000k in 2018 will be challenging but achievable.
There are a few ‘virtual running’ sites that do 1000k/m medal challenges so think I’ll be signing up for one of those.

Tiredemma · 27/12/2017 10:08

Morning all

tim im doing 5k about 2/3 times a week currently so do think that I could push up to Miles if I keep going at this rate into the new year.

should we put a weekly log on here if we are all interested?

Sorry- forgot to add- its only been in the past couple of weeks that I have started running again and most of the year I have done absolutely nothing

Which one would you recommend signing up for to do 1000 miles running? There are so many when you google it.

LoveVelo · 27/12/2017 13:15

Thanks for starting this thread Tiredemma, I'd like to join to please as this will give me the motivation I need!
Currently managing about 12 - 16 (very slow!) miles a week so will sign up for 1000 miles strava club. Hoping this will also give me the motivation to get back on the bike too.
And Flowers for the loss of your Mum.

LoveVelo · 27/12/2017 13:17

teenageromance, are you on Strava - there's a 1000 mile in 2018 club on there.

Freshprincess · 27/12/2017 13:28

Me. I tried to do 1000 miles this year but I'm short of about 150 miles. I overestimated how easy it would be to fit 'only 20' miles a week in.

This year I'm going to get all the way there! I've joined the Strava 1000 miles club as well.

Ishouldbedoingsomething · 27/12/2017 14:18

I’d like to join too - started running but keep finding excuses to not do it - this may help

What’s Strava?

ladymelbourne1926 · 27/12/2017 14:22

I've signed up to do the 1000k in 2018 as well, looking forward to it Smile

Teenageromance · 27/12/2017 17:21

I’ll sign up to the strava running one - is their an equivalent app for the walking run as may do that with a friend

Tiredemma · 27/12/2017 17:41

Ok all- 1st Jan we will start to log our Km/miles on this thread. Feel motivated already. Thanks all for responding

ishouldbedoingsomething strava is a mobile app that allows you log log you runs/ walks/ rides using gps.
Google strava.com as you'll get a far more comprehensive explanation there than I can provide.
It's free as well (but you can buy premium membership, not used hat so can't comment)
It is useful as you will be given stats that help you see how you are progressing.

d2148j · 27/12/2017 19:22

I’ve joined a 1000 mile challenge on Strava but no way i’ll Make it. A 1000k or 500 mile one more realistic for me. But thought it would be a good way to motivate myself. Signed up to a 50 mile virtual race in January too.

Do you run with a club? I joined a run England running group (all female one) and it’s been great for my motivation.

DiscoMoo · 27/12/2017 19:24

I aimed for 1000 miles this year but had to revise to 1000 km when I realised in about August that I wasn’t going to get there. I run 3 times a week with my club and usually do a long run on the weekend but with holidays and other commitments I fell behind and couldn’t make up what I’d lost. I’m doing a marathon in October this year so have a better chance of doing 1000 miles but I’m going to aim for kms and see how I get on!

SokokeCat · 27/12/2017 20:47

What's the name of the Strava 1000 miles...is it a challenge or a club on there?
My aim is 1000km running and 1000miles cycling. I should really add 100km swimming into that, but that gets complicated!

MsJaneAusten · 27/12/2017 21:24

Realistically I'm not sure I'll manage to run 1000 miles but I've pledged to walk 1000 in 2018. I've just bought a new FitBit and am very much looking forward to it. I might upgrade to running once the walking starts working!

grafittiartist · 27/12/2017 21:35

I'm in. Managed 1000k in 2017, so 1000miles next year would be great!

Tiredemma · 28/12/2017 11:15

Once Jan 1st is here ill just rename it 1000km/m challenge and whether people want to run/walk/cycle/swim(!) covers all.

Jaimx86 · 28/12/2017 23:48

I've done 775km since I started running in 12th March 2017, and will do another 12 before the year is out. I'll aim to do a minimum of 1000km across the Year in 2018.

atomicnotsoblonde · 29/12/2017 09:58

Me! I'm going to do km...

Is there a group on one of the running apps we can join?
