Anyone up for a 'Run 1000k or miles' in 2018 challenge

Last year I swore I would get fitter and joined a FB run 1000k or miles challenge. Did ok through Jan and Feb.

Then my Mum died very unexpectedly on Feb 28th and everything went downhill from then. I have lacked the will, motivation, confidence to get back out there. I think im quite possible a little bit depressed so know that I need to do 'something' to keep me distracted.

I intend to challenge myself again but think I might find more get up to go and actually do it if I have some challenging buddies on here?

I cant do it in miles just jet- I think I would be setting myself up to fail but I do think I can push the Km again.

Plan to start Jan 1st. Not sure if someone else already has a thread going? if so please direct me- if not not then please join me.

I'm going to do miles as I don't understand km Blush is there a particular app everyone is using? Heat will people be using to record?

Hello op. First of all I'm so sorry for your loss Thanks

I did my own challenge last year if 500km. Sounded easy in January but had a few weeks off ill/ injured / holidays and sometimes I couldn't be arsed so by November the weekly target was a little more daunting! I'm rather chuffed to say that I did finally cross the 500 line on 22 December.

I feel nervous about doubling that target but I'd be up for 750km if I'm allowed to join

I’m just 3 miles off the 1000 miles for this year, having clocked just over 1000 in 2016. It’s a great challenge to do, but it’s hard if you’re not training for a marathon (or 2!) as it’s a high mileage to maintain. I ‘banked’ a fair few extra miles (over the c 20 per week) at the start of the year last year so I had a cushion as the year went on. This year I wasn’t intending to do it, but got to mid-Nov with 150 to go and have really pushed myself to get over the line.
One thing that really helped me both years was adding on odd extra miles here and there - ALWAYS rounding runs up to the next mile; parking my car a mile from the start of a meeting point for a group run/parkrun; getting to running club 10-15 mins early and running a loop of the town centre before the run... all these really add up and can help the weekly target massively.

Oooooh sounds like just what I need to get my arse in gear! I used to run 3-4 times per week but fell out of love with it last year due to minor health issues and major work commitments. Can I join? Guess I will be starting from zero but with hopes of at least a couple of half marathons before the year is out.

I’ve signed up for the Virtual Runner 1000km challenge (medal). Hoping that’ll give me some extra motivation (although I signed up for the 1000mile one for 2017 and didn’t achieve it...)
Starting tomorrow with a 10k so should be a decent start at least!

Im out tonight at a party so I know that my 'kick off' tomorrow will be a very paltry short, minute distance but ill be going for it all the same.

Happy New Year all- heres to smashing our own personal targets for 2018.
