Had fallen off my TIO! Had a week off following a stomach bug (thanks daughter for sharing) but back into my usual 3 x per week now.

Had my third Jeffing run yesterday, 9 miles very comfortable. Following Jeff's "finish upright" marathon plan for first timers who aren't beginners. Not actually entered yet, waiting to see how training goes although they have mentioned entries closing in January, so not got too long until I need to make a decision Grin

We have been well below freezing all day here, but still ok to run. Not too icy. No snow for us, which is unusual, especially when it seems to be virtually everywhere else!

mammymammyIRL · 10/12/2017 21:32

I've decided not to run for a couple of days my cold seems to have gone into my chest so I think it's for the best

I managed to persuade the kids out on their bikes this morning & braved the cold (no ice or snow for us just driving rain Shock) so just a brisk 7km but did do a lovely 10km trail run with friends in Friday.
Trying to squeeze in a few more longer runs before school breaks up as it's always harder to get out in the holidays. Feeling like I'm behind but trying not to worry about a structured plan until the NY which will still give me 11 weeks until the HM.

TriGirl007 · 11/12/2017 19:24

Hope you feel better soon mammy

Your brave thisgirlrides rain and cold with kids, well done Smile

I hummed n hawed this morning about running but dragged my bum out in the 1c with 3layers on and did a gd fast 10k which surprised me think I was just trying to keep warm Grin

mammymammyIRL · 11/12/2017 22:09

Have many of you got another half booked? I've 5k 5 miles 10k & 10 miles booked, my friend wants to do half in mid March, I'm not sure

OP posts:

Can I join please?
I've signed up to run the Big half for Alzheimers, a charity dear to me due to both parents having suffered from it and now deceased.

However, I've not run much lately due to hip pain (didn't help balancing babies on my hips I'm , 49 and have ageing joints)

I did a 10k lonce ast summer and manage usually 5-6k on a run. How on earth will I manage to do a half marathon next March?? Any pearls of wisdom to help me along my way?

thisgirlrides · 11/12/2017 22:34

@BelleandBeast I like the Bupa HM training plan which is 12 weeks with option for 3 or 4 runs a week (3 runs plus 1 other exercise) & whilst Im not officially starting until jan it does help show you timings & distances you'll be starting from. You should be fine it's just getting out regularly in this weather that's tricky Wink

TriGirl007 · 12/12/2017 07:16

I’ve got two HM booked in, mid Feb and early March, they are 3wks apart. I’ve got to ten miles once and boy my body felt it that week so I’m abit concerned about only 3wks between them now!

mammymammyIRL · 12/12/2017 08:16

Welcome belleandbeast

Definitely include a run with hills in it each week, I like one for speed, one for distance, one for hills and then one for fun if at all possible.

I've also purchased the medalmad leggings with reflective stars on preorder. My primark leggings with reflective detail are so thin I need to wear capris under them at the moment for warmth!

Thank you @mammymammyIRL . @thisgirlrides Am feeling inspired by that 12 week schedule. I need to keep off the red wine though over Christmas.

mammymammyIRL · 12/12/2017 09:45

I've come to a decision to give up booze for 2018 belle I did it for a few months this year and my running improved and my weight loss benefited too. I've a friends wedding on Jan 5th and that'll be it for me Grin

Finally back running after wretched snow. Still some lingering icy patches on pavements but avoidable. Felt ok while running but a little stiff now! Planned a few festive parkruns and about to start negotiating next year's schedule including at least 1 half with DH!

TriGirl007 · 19/12/2017 19:08

Nice medal n tee mammy.
You sound like us two random my DH said the other night “it be nice to do a HM with you..” hmmm I’m thinking I’ve got two lined up in Feb/mar I don’t think I want to do anymore yet Confused but we will see. He runs SO much faster than me and did “pace” my SiL last month to her fastest HM so it would be gd probSmile as he’s quite patient.
I’m testing my legs out skiing this week it’s been fab so far the fittest I’ve been in years thanks to the running, but I’m knackered now Grin

mammymammyIRL · 20/12/2017 05:31

Tri sounds good if he'll go at your pace, would he do one of the ones you've already booked?

My friend wants to run Thursday eve, I've been out two nights this week at meetings & have Christmas cards to write tonight, I want to but I'm thinking I need to stay home too Grin

TriGirl007 · 20/12/2017 06:30

Yes mammy he found slowing down for my SIL (who runs same pace as me) was really gd for his body as he had hardly any aches or pains and he enjoyed the run without the ‘pressure’ to go fast. SIL told him what she wanted to run so he just kept her there even when she wasn’t feeling brill Smile but she was amazed after she got a strava PB on every split possible!

mammymammyIRL · 20/12/2017 08:09

That's brilliant - I've heard slow runs are good for you but I just have one pace my best, depends on the day what that is! Remembered I've a hair appointment and visitors thurs night so that's running out!!

Hi everyone, not been on thread for a wee while!

Not signed up for any 2018 races yet, but hoping to do my usual hometown Half early March followed by Stirling Full at the end of April. Usually long run on a Sunday, but the forecast was awful for today, really wet and windy. Just windy yesterday, so plodded round a slow 11 miles. Felt like I was going backwards at times, it was pretty breezy Grin

Off to the panto this afternoon, Merry Christmas to everyone on this thread Xmas Smile

mammymammyIRL · 25/12/2017 10:46

Happy Christmas everyone Xmas Grin

Hope everyone had a festive time Xmas Smile I’m itching to get back to some longer runs post holidays. Been away skiing pre-xmas, (cross-training Grin was the fittest I’ve been for years (from running) so was fab) and then been with in laws but I squeezed in 5k on C day pre-meal and a walk with the kids today. But need to get a long run in now got “twitchy” legs and very aware my first HM in mid-Feb...

mammymammyIRL · 27/12/2017 08:24

Skigirl I'm away from my own house with dc, dh was here yesterday so I did 5k in the morning & it was brilliant. He's not here today so I think I'll wait until I go to my parents to run this evening although I'd love to repeat the route this morning. You did well to get out Christmas Day!

Hi all

I was on this thread or the predecessor and just want to say that I ran my HM at the end of November, using the Jeff Galloway method and finished in 2:15. I broke with the walk intervals in the last three miles.

I thoroughly recommend the system. I’m 53 and it got me round safely. Interestingly when I run ‘normally’ without the intervals on distances above four miles I am no faster than I am Jeffing. The one-minute walk breaks really refresh me.

Thanks for all the support and sorry for the delay in coming back to the thread!

mammymammyIRL · 27/12/2017 13:59

Hmm @Abra1d i might try this method for ten miler in April to see if I can see improve my time
