Wow halle that’s some amazing progress on your PBS, well done.

I plodded round 8.5m yesterday but had planned to do 9.5m yet everything was groaning at the 1mile mark so I just slowed down and thought enjoy the view and headspace and see how far I get. It was a out and back route so I knew I had no choice but to run back. Was utterly zonked afterwards though and hot bath was really needed. Hope I’m not fighting off the kids cold...again.

HalleLouja · 21/11/2017 15:03

HRH I have been doing intervals for a couple of years and hadn't improved in fact started going the other way. I have lost over a stone of weight and think the TRX / strength training has helped too.

Purplerunner · 21/11/2017 21:15

Amazing progress Halle

Slightly disheartened though. I'm short, and at the top end of healthy BMI (pear shaped with chunky thighs). I know I need to lose weight to get faster, but can't motivate myself. Plus, I get really scrawny in my top half/face if I lose weight. Sad

Did my first Jeffing run on Sunday. 6.5 miles and not that much slower than usual. Felt easy. I used a 3/1 ratio, but since been told I should try 90/30 so will give that a go next weekend.

thisgirlrides · 21/11/2017 23:06

Wow some great times on here. Gradually upping my distances 9km last week & did a tough (2 killler hills) 9.5km today in 55 minutes so feeling like I’m on track. Doing a swim tomorrow then a nice flat trail run Thursday hoping to break the 10km barrier) before rest day Friday.

My aim is 7 miles before Christmas Smile

Clarabell100 · 23/11/2017 11:52

Everyone is doing so well! I'm still just plodding round a lunch time 5k and then trying to up it slightly on the weekend. Did 6.5 on saturday and wasn't too shattered afterwards. Hoping to build up to being able to run 10k before christmas, even if I have to have walking breaks. Then I can focus on times in January!

TriGirl007 · 23/11/2017 13:18

thisgirl the hilly run sounds good. I tried some sprints between lampposts this morn but it made me feel yucky think it was tad early for my body to be doing sprints Grin

clarabell your doing fab it’s super hard shoehorning exercise in when you are working with young children. I’m finding it easier now my oldest can be left at her clubs and I can nip for a run before collecting her again.

thisgirlrides · 23/11/2017 14:05

@TriGirl007 that's how I fit mine in when dc are doing clubs but I do also have a day off and use that for longer runs with a couple of friends which really helps.

HRHPrincessMegan · 23/11/2017 18:12

I think I’ll still give interval training a go - although it’s good to know that it doesn’t benefit everyone so thanks for sharing that halle.

I’m relatively new to running - my first HM was October and only trained for 9 weeks as I was scared of injury. Prior to this I did kept fit with HIIT and boot camps, both of which involve strength and core exercises. I think this really stood me in good stead for the actual HM as I avoided injury and was really please with my time. I did however eat complete crap while training - thankfully I didn’t gain weigh. Since the HM I’ve undertaken a major diet overhaul. I’ve been off sugar for 6 weeks and this week I’ve cut my carbs to 60g of wholegrain and only on days that I run. I havent lost a lot of weigh but I don’t really need to - I do however feel a lot better, especially when I’m out running.

HalleLouja · 24/11/2017 06:42

HRH I think it has helped me. I was just going through a bad running patch —for two years—.

HalleLouja · 24/11/2017 06:43

Argh phone didn’t do proper strike through.

LoudestRoar · 24/11/2017 16:57

Urgh, I still have 4.5 miles to do tonight. Was going to go out when dh gets home (dressed all ready) but may just go on the treadmill instead. Either way, if I've not updated by 8pm tonight, please give me a much needed luck up the arse. ...

thisgirlrides · 24/11/2017 19:39

@LoudestRoar I really feel for you that's the worst feeling when it's cold & dark outside and you're struggling with motivation. I kept missing runs because I just couldn't face it so have had to incorporate an early one at the weekend which does mean I miss a lie-in but do at least get it done & dusted before 9am.

Went for a very hungover run today and swore I'd only manage a quick 5km but once I found my legs (c.3km in -anyone else?) I was fine and managed a half decent 10km time Grin

LoudestRoar · 24/11/2017 19:48

@thisgirlrides Thanks! I now have the smug sitting on the sofs all night. Just did 4.5 miles in 58.20, which is a PB for me. Although that was on the treadmill, and not outside. Maybe I should try a hang over run....

Purplerunner · 24/11/2017 19:59

It's been really icy here in Scotland, hail and a bit of snow too, making getting runs in tricky. Keep cancelling parkrun Sad

Met my friend at school this morning, we managed about 10 metres before realising the pavements were far too slippery to attempt a run. Went to a nearby grassy park and did a few intervals which was hard going. Really squelchy in places so my new trainers are well and truly christened. But was glad to have done something Grin

Second attempt at Jeffing a longer run will be on Sunday, hopefully!

londonmummy1966 · 26/11/2017 17:41

Had a bad week as I was feeling under the weather and made that an excuse to do no mid week running - however managed to knock off 13km this morning so feel I'm still on track.

How did the long Jeff run go purple? Well done for getting out at all Clarabell more than I ever managed when I was working without kids.

AuntieStella · 26/11/2017 18:47

I think I'm just getting back in track, having had a week (more or less) off after the 10 mile race. Once again I'm running 3 times a week, with one of those runs being long (9 miles on Saturday, felt I could have kept going) one week, and one challenge (hills, usually, but could be speed intervals) the next.

Purplerunner · 26/11/2017 19:53

Tried 90/30 for my Jeffing this morning. Managed 8 miles easily, felt like I could have gone on for miles. It is funny how it just stops the tiredness creeping in. Averaged 10.5 minutes per mile, rather than my usual 10, so not much slower than just running either.

However, my bunion in my left foot is really starting to hurt, and I know it is affecting my gait (am getting hard skin on the outside edge of the same foot and a really obvious wear pattern on the outside heel of my trainer). Anyone got any experience/advice/tips? Not sure what I can do about it. My mum had bunion surgery and doesn't recommend it Sad

AuntieStella · 26/11/2017 21:28

One of the DC was possibly developing a very slight bunion, and it was worth going to a podiatrist. She said it was inherited (not acquired) and she gave us exercises to strengthen the feet, and insoles. Plus advice to wear lace up shoes (so it's plain lace-ups that can take orthotics for school, and trainers most of the time apart from that). And neutral sole for trainers if you need orthotics.

mammymammyIRL · 27/11/2017 07:25

Hi all
My last run was fri 17th, I was away that weekend & then absolutely wrecked after it plus using road diversions to get to work due to flooding and now down with a headcold, plus weather is wet still. I'm going to try again Wed all going well.

Bought primark reflective leggings and can't wait to try them out Grin
purple sounds like jeffing was a success then, especially if you felt like you could keep on going.

Ooh mammy tell me more about your leggings!

Clarabell100 · 27/11/2017 21:18

Hi all

Everyone is doing so well, reading your posts definitely keeps me motivated and I feel like I can’t come on here and say I’ve not done anything!

This week has been tough. I’ve had a poorly wee baby and had to take a couple of days off which meant we had to do our lunch time run in a specific day...and of course it was chucking it down. Not fun! Did 3miles anyway and I think the rain may have made us faster!

Managed 4.5miles yesterday, which is the furthest I’ve run since before I was pregnant so that was an achievement. It took me 53 minutes though, which is about the same as my old 10k time so that was upsetting. But got to start somewhere!

londonmummy1966 · 27/11/2017 22:36

Well done Clarabell - it doesn't matter how fast you are - you're still faster than everyone in the office who sat and read the newspaper at lunch time - and 53 minutes is the fastest I have ever done a 10k (and that was 15 years ago)......

londonmummy1966 · 27/11/2017 22:37

Actually came on here to say that I need to get out and do a run tomorrow so if I don't post that I've done one please can someone administer a butt kicking?

mammymammyIRL · 28/11/2017 02:10

Plucked photo online @BusterTheBulldog

Well done Clara bell
