Wow! I couldn't afford that! Im feeling a bit lucky that our council run (well outsourced) centre is 30quid for 2 centres but because my kids have lessons im paying £24 a month! Im swimming 3 x a week plus 1 or 2 aqua sessions. I cant afford an extra 25quid a month at the moment (but can't make the day anyway!) but the free included session would be ace.... will have to ask at the other pool what they do!

tizwozliz · 22/06/2018 19:07

Another good swim this morning bringing my total for the week up to 9.8k. Aiming for 10 next week.

Also managed to pick up a speedo endurance costume for 8 pounds in TK Maxx. Need to sort through and throw some old swimsuits out now.

SkiGirl007 · 24/06/2018 21:14

Did my first sea swim Grin this morning I overcome my face in the sea water fear and loved it! Have now ordered a tow float and hope to do many more this summer. My trusty 20yr old super thick wet suit was fab at providing floatation. I didn’t go far but did do frontcrawl which was great to see clear water seabed as it was stony but not confident yet to go too far out of my depth. Some folk swam right out, I will work on my confidence this summer hopefully.

tizwozliz · 24/06/2018 21:38

Be aware, that swimming in a thick, non swim specific wetsuit might be really tiring on your shoulders.

SkiGirl007 · 25/06/2018 06:49

Thanks tiz if I carry on I’ll replace the wetsuit for a swimming one as this one really is old Smile we live by the sea so it will get used a fair bit as we looking at getting a kayak too now the youngest DD is a more confident swimmer.

Another local pool is shut for refurbishment so today we only had the use of half the pool while the youth squad from the swimming club came to do their training at our pool. They were very impressive – must have been early teens with speed, energy and enthusiasm! Our reduced lanes weren't too bad, but Monday is always a quieter day. Might be busier and trickier later on in the week.

tizwozliz · 25/06/2018 13:57

I had a lane to myself this morning, very quiet at the pool.

I'm sat here wishing I had access to an open air pool though. Would be great with this weather.

SkiGirl007 · 25/06/2018 21:09

Evening swim 45min non-stop mostly crawl lost count prob around the 1250m mark. We are blessed with a lovely community run open air pool as well about 10mins away. I went regularly during my lunch break last year but haven’t made it yet this year now I’ve got faster & mostly crawl, as fear I’ll get frustrated by the dry hair breaststokers as there isn’t always a lane up. But it’s a beaut pool.

ScaredPAD · 27/06/2018 12:09

Tiz i love it when i get my own lane!

Ive lost my (stupidly expensive) prescription goggles. Im in a real state about it! Firstly the money - 120 quid - but more that i cant see without them and the thought of not being able to swim today never mind 2 weeks while they make more is driving me loopy.

I think its been about 3 months ive been swimming several times a week and ive obviously become "a swimmer" as im really anxious i cant swim!!

Im trying to work out if i could risk lanes with my kids goggles but unless it really is empty im not going to see the other person at all :(

SingingAvocado · 27/06/2018 14:08

Oh no, Scared. Did you leave them at the pool?

I found out that the speedy teenagers on Monday were in training for the GB squad. Made me feel a little better! They will be there again at the morning session tomorrow.

bruffin · 27/06/2018 15:58

I thought it was bad enough losing my £15 goggles Scaredpad

I had lesson today, friend was away so had teacher to myself. New teacher as my normal teacher was also away. Did a lot of flipper work but was a really good workout. Although someone got into my lane , 2 lanes are closed for lessons, so i shouted down the other end of the pool for her to get out. She was a "dry haired breast stroker" and i wasn't going to wait for her to dawdle back, she had a right go at me for shouting at her. I know my teacher would have done just the same, and the other teacher told her to move as soon as she saw her in the lane. I wouldn't mind but she is there most weeks and would know this is a teaching lane.

ScaredPAD · 27/06/2018 16:51

Yep pretty sure I left at the pool and due to dubious lack of goggles in lost property I think they bin them.... Having said that now Ive ordered more they will probably turn up!!

Wow for GB swimmers.
Yay for 1-1 lesson!

tizwozliz · 27/06/2018 18:08

I always have to extract my goggles from my hair after swimming which has the one advantage of being much less likely to lose them!

bruffin · 27/06/2018 18:34

I have that problem Tizwizliz. I just lose them between locker and poolside Confused

ScaredPAD · 27/06/2018 19:39

I think i put them down when I had a shower....

Ive ordered a generic 10 pound pair of -8 goggles from amazon prime so that although I cant see properly I should be able to swim! 2-3 weeks for proper ones :(

tizwozliz · 27/06/2018 19:58

I'm -4 and can manage to swim without crashing into anyone with goggles with no correction so hopefully -8 will work enough for you not to be a danger ScaredPAD

ScaredPAD · 27/06/2018 20:12

I will let you know! Not being able to see is scary. Im so short sighted I wouldnt be able to see my kids swimmimg without glasses!

ScaredPAD · 27/06/2018 22:21

(my normal prescription is - 9 something and - 10 something but with astigmatism - I qualify for free eye tests and a voucher as I really cant see a thing without glasses. Apparently -8 is the closest whole number adjusted for astigmatism etc but will still be incredibly blury. Im thinking if i wear glasses to the edge and maybe mention to the lifeguard. I will even mention it to anyone swimmimg in my lane if I get a chance!!)

boxcar · 01/07/2018 20:12

Hi, new to the thread. I've just started swimming again after years & years & years. I don't own any goggles & never really got on with them as a kid. Then I did a lot of life saving and wasn't allowed them anyway. I'm thinking of trying them again as I plan to swim regularly for the next couple of months (recovering from running injury). Any recommendations please? I just remember them leaking all the time and having to stop to empty them out. This was 30 years ago though. Have they improved?!

SkiGirl007 · 02/07/2018 06:57

Welcome boxcar I’ve only in the last couple of years found some goggles that fit my face I use Aquasphere Kayenne women’s ones. However it’s very much trial and error to find what suits you. Others swear by zoggs predator ones. My sister ex-lifeguard & competitive swimmer likes the Swedish ones which are very minimalistic no rubber seal and string to adjust nose piece.

flamingnoravera · 02/07/2018 09:22

I use Selene women's gogs. They fit nicely and last about 6 months of 4 swims a weeks. From amazon.

SkiGirl007 · 02/07/2018 14:59

Had a cracking lunchtime swim today 45mins nonstop with lane to myself heaven Smile

ScaredPAD · 02/07/2018 16:56

Ski i was just the opposite! I wanted to try swimming a mile (i normally see how fast i can do 1k) but instead of 5 lanes there were 2 and it was ridiculously busy and didnt get that far. They'd let kids in the slow lane area to play when it was
supposed to be a lane session!!! I did complain (nicely) but I never know what they will do at that pool!

On the plus side my generic prescription goggles were fine.

SkiGirl007 · 02/07/2018 17:46

That’s a shame pad I did time it right upto close time and there were 4 ladies breast stroking in the other lane. It’s the best advantage of teaching myself F.C. that I “feel” I can use the fast lane now. It wouldn’t have bothered me if one of the ladies moved over but they didnt. I normally go tonight but it’s parents eve so I was super pleased to get in a swim today.

ScaredPAD · 02/07/2018 17:50

I do front crawl reasonably well but I do 1k in 30mins and there were 3 fast club type swimmers on the fast one! I would definitely be in their way. Ill happily use a fast lane if noones in it though.

Our pool is fine when there's more lanes and I often get a lane to myself. Has a grump!
