Why don't pools display posters describing good lane manners? I think some people just don't know that you don't push off the wall in slow breast stroke when a freestyler has just hit the wall and is about to turn etc. There seems to be a reluctance amongst men to swim in the slow lane at my pool- possibly because the medium lane is closest to where the male changing rooms emerge and the females come out onto the slow lane. Maybe the pool should switch them round for a laugh!

SingingAvocado · 08/06/2018 09:07

What is the side computer mouse, Ski? Interested … Normal week at the pool this week. 3 x 2km sessions of about 40mins. Work has been busy and I considered not going and catching up a bit instead but decided it was good for me, mentally and physically!

SkiGirl007 · 08/06/2018 10:29

I’ve used one of these for about 5yrs now evoluent.com/products/vm4r/ worth the £s but lots of options on amazon pen mouse etc.

SingingAvocado · 08/06/2018 11:47

Thank you. Before you replied I'd done a quick search and found a cheap option here: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00JOC5WZI/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AEB9F56C3A3O6&psc=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21
I'm at the computer all day and definitely notice that my arm feels uncomfortable.

SkiGirl007 · 08/06/2018 16:09

Hope it helps Smile

Abouttime · 08/06/2018 16:54

Hello everyone.

I have a waterproof iPod shuffle but the earphones are rubbish, so I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations please?

Thanks

SingingAvocado · 11/06/2018 09:17

Sorry Abouttime but I don't listen to music while swimming so I don't have any mp3 players etc. to recommend. Fairly sure the question has been asked before so you may get lucky if you do a search upthread or on our previous thread (part 2).

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 11/06/2018 10:09

Sigh....haven't been able to get to pool since 23rd May.
Back today though.

Life is throwing me loads of lemons at the moment.

SingingAvocado · 11/06/2018 11:02

Good luck making lemonade, Rights! But seriously, hope you are ok. Glad you are getting back to swimming today and hope it does you the world of good xx

argumentativefeminist · 11/06/2018 11:12

Tentatively dipping my toes into the water in the hope that seeing this on my "I'm On" every time I look at it might motivate me! Fairly new to swimming for fitness, been doing it for about 9 weeks now, half an hour every week at least once, twice when I'm at uni as opposed to at home. It isn't the world's most demanding workout but I'm severely overweight so it's enough for me at the moment. Just got a Finis Duo so looking forward to trying that out today but concerned that other people will be able to hear it! Confused

SingingAvocado · 11/06/2018 12:12

Welcome Argumemntativefeminist – you've come to just the right place. We will try to motivate you too, and it sounds like you've already made a great start. Looking forward to your updates …

tizwozliz · 11/06/2018 13:42

First swim back after being on holiday. Felt like hard work to start with but great once I got going. Think the rest did me some good.

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 11/06/2018 14:04

Thanks Avo

The swim was quite tough actually. Hard to regulate my breathing, but very good to stretch my leg muscles out. Pool quite empty so that was good.

argumentativefeminist · 11/06/2018 15:22

Half an hour of the fastest lengths I've ever done complete - Thank you Beyonce! - and quinoa salad consumed, so feel like I'm really getting my life together. Time for an ice cream in the garden I think Wink

argumentativefeminist · 11/06/2018 15:28

I am half heartedly trying to lose weight but also just want to enjoy myself whilst getting fitter to keep my body more active and healthy in terms of my heart etc. I figure the exercise comes first, and the diet amendments will get easier with time!

SkiGirl007 · 11/06/2018 21:30

Finally back in a big pool (the campsite 15m pool was lovely outdoors but not a lot of swimming happened except me trying to learn butterfly & drown at the same time Grin ) tonight back in home pool swam mostly F.C. nonstop for 40mins lost count but felt good prob 1k+

Flowerypig · 11/06/2018 21:48

Hi! Hope is ok to join you all! You’re very inspiring. I’ve recently started swimming again. Do 50 lengths or so twice a week if I’m lucky and motivated! Think need to
Improve my stroke some what though!

ScaredPAD · 12/06/2018 04:09

Welcome flowerypig and feminist!

I've loved this group. I'm so glad I finally got the confidence to lane swim as I love it. I'd previously avoided the lanes and been in the other bit of the pool but these last 3 months have been fab! I even get one to myself sometimes. I make sure I go when there's more than 1 lane so fastt people can go faster than me. And one local pool has changed to 5 lanes so I can worry less about my speed.

Im okay waiting at the end if the other person laps me every so often. I'm not so good when I'm the faster one and usually end up doing some slower lengths!

ScaredPAD · 12/06/2018 04:11

Flowery I do a similar amount and similarly am beginning to wonder about my stroke!

I swam a lot as a kid so I do do okay but I am very large .... I think when I'm smaller I might join one of the adult lessons.

CorrigansDoorKnob · 12/06/2018 13:07

Glad to hear all these swimming successes. Is anyone open water/lake/sea swimming at the moment? Anyone training for anything exciting?

It’s cold and wet here down under. The weather is testing my motivation, especially when swimming in outdoor pools. The walk from the pool to the change rooms is particularly special!

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 12/06/2018 14:10

I plan to do some open water swimming this summer (if I manage to turn the lemons into lemonade). I had so much fun last year.

Not training for anything specific, but I do like to enter events so am keeping my eye open.

Sorry Corri unless you're cracking the ice to get into the lake to swim you won't get any sympathy from me Grin

tizwozliz · 12/06/2018 19:48

I'm definitely doing the Nottingham Big Swim - probably the 2.5k event (there's a 1.5k and a 5k too).

I'll do a couple of open water practice swims beforehand but not a great deal.

Might do some others too but they'll be last minute entries, for various reasons don't want to have too much scheduled way in advance.

brizzledrizzle · 12/06/2018 21:57

May I join you?
I started swimming last week but lurked until now.
What is the pool etiquette re cubicles ? Today there were masses of empty lockers and no cubicles because the four with open doors all had things left in them so I moved a bag and pair of shoes to the top of the lockers - waist height - so I could change and swim in my lunch break.

When I was changing the person returned and was complaining loudly that it was unacceptable to move things out of the cubicle, there are signs saying not to leave anything in cubicles.

Have I committed a major faux pas ?

argumentativefeminist · 12/06/2018 22:43

@brizzledrizzle that's what I would have done if I wanted to change in a cubicle particularly (totally understandable!). It's not like you hid or put it somewhere that wasn't immediately obvious surely? That being said I usually swim at a university pool with mostly other students, so there's a lot of un-cubicled millennial feminist nudity and also a lot of well-padlocked lockering as we're far too broke to replace our stuff, so have never had this problem despite not having helpful signs!

bruffin · 12/06/2018 22:51

Havent been around for a while as been busy. Still swimming twice a week but want to do more.

My dd 20 has gone to camp america for the summer and she did her american red cross lg qualification last week and now training to teach swimming to the kids at camp this week(WSI) may be able to get types when she gets back.
