Booked my first poleclass in years

So I did pole fitness before and loved it I was obsessed with it! But I think I pushed myself too hard too quick and got injured. I have now booked into my first class in years! It's about an hours drive from my house and membership is £80 per month and I can attend as many classes as I like! I'm soooo excited and a little nervous as I don't want any injuries

I have just started aerial silks had two classes so far. I love it! I am pretty rubbish but hey rome wasn't built in a day.
They also do pole fitness at my studio I do the warm up with all of the pole ladies and they are super fit!
Best of luck and I am sure if you take it slow and listen to your instructor you will be injury free.

strartingtotry · 18/07/2017 20:54

Oh I'm not super fit so I hope they arnt all super fit in my class Confused

I've lost weight recently and I'm not as firm as I would like to be especially my thighs and belly. And I know when I have to climb and sit on the pole my thighs are going to kill! But it really is the only exercise I have ever enjoyed so I think I might as well go for it.

I was thinking if pole doesn't work out for me I might try Ariel fitness next time.

I find pole so addictive are you the same with Ariel?

I do aerial and it's really addictive. It does get easier. I hate when I miss a week.

Dogmum2017 · 19/07/2017 08:07

I tried the pole and aerial hoop as a taster session but always loved the way silks looked so took up that class instead, I have to say two classes in and I am already hooked!
I got myself a pull up bar for home and have been doing yoga you tube videos as well to try and make it easier on myself in class as my upper body strength is rubbish i.e. none existant at the moment. But I am sure I will get there practice makes perfect.

Iamtheresurrection · 19/07/2017 09:47

My upper body strength has improved so much with aerial.

Wouldn't mind getting a pull up bar but worry my house would fall down!

strartingtotry · 19/07/2017 20:42

Maybe we should keep the thread going so we can talk about our addictive activities! And how we are improving!

The good thing is when you enjoy an exercise you do extra things in your own time to help you improve! Well done on getting your pull up bar.

I actually have a pole at home from when I did it before but I don't have enough Space for it in my bedroom. I might have to put it up in the livibgroom eventually Grin

So I loved my class today but I have a massive bruise on the side of my hip that seems to be swollen Confused

OP posts:
Iamtheresurrection · 21/07/2017 19:30

Did you bump your hip? Seems an odd place to get a bruise from the pole.

My class is off for a few weeks just now - gutted.

strartingtotry · 22/07/2017 08:46

Yes I bumped it on the pole somehow Confused it's really massive and purple and swollen! Yuk!

Also I'm aching all over! I was thinking after my pole class I need to get in shape so would start my workout DVD and do it everyday but I've been out of exercise for so long now I think my body is too lazy! I don't want to over do it then won't be able to make my pole class! But I also want to get in shape and tone my thighs and belly!

OP posts:
strartingtotry · 22/07/2017 08:46

Why is your class off? For the holiday? Isn't there another one local?

OP posts:
Iamtheresurrection · 22/07/2017 13:26

Less people go during school holidays. There's nothing similar nearby. Going to try a Barre Pilates class and see how that goes.

Iamtheresurrection · 22/07/2017 13:37

I need to get my act together and increase the classes in general - my cardio fitness is shocking.

strartingtotry · 22/07/2017 20:15

That's a shame just as you got into it! But you should use this time to do Pilates and anything else you can do to get stronger! Then when you go back you will be much better!

My whole body is killing after my class yesterday! It's because I haven't exercised for so long! I'm terrible at cardio too! But I don't mind about that as much I would rather start weight training so i can be stronger and get toned as I'm happy with my weight but not with my muscle tone atall Sad

I'm still here :)
Got my third silks class this Thursday.
In addition I have started Yoga at home to increase my flexability.
I have been Thai Boxing for about a year and found that it seems to have shortened all my muscles so I am nowhere near as flexable as I was before!
I too come away with bruises, last set on my hips from hanging upside down have just faded :)

Iamtheresurrection · 24/07/2017 20:03

I'm trying barre pilates tonight. We'll see how it goes!

strartingtotry · 30/07/2017 12:50

Well I had my second class booked in for yesterday and I nacelles as I had a lot going on Sad I havnt managed to do any other exercise and while I really know I should I feel terribly lazy at the minute.

So it sounds like you two are doing much better than me with other exercise

Do you pay in advance? That stops me cancelling. I managed a spin class and a normal Pilates class as well last week. I'm trying to get into a routine, then I'm more likely to stick to it.

Tenpenny · 30/07/2017 23:50

Hello all, cannot believe I saw this thread, I've been thinking about booking my first pole class for the last few months! Would also like to pick aerial hoop but it falls on a day I have dd -
What is pole like? I've watched a lot of videos and I bet the strength you get is amazing, I'm also doing a lot of stretching at home to become more flexible.

strartingtotry · 01/08/2017 11:04

I do pay in advance but I can reschedule! I will be going on Friday tho Grin

Oh I hate spin I always feel sick after

OP posts:
Liadain · 01/08/2017 11:08

Pole is great for strength building, you can start from a very low level of fitness too. It's my favourite thing in the world.

Also, hip bruises are common enough - were you doing invert prep work? I always used to catch my hip on the bar when I started.

strartingtotry · 01/08/2017 12:01

Pole is amazing and you do build alot of strength, I really enjoy it, you really have to concentrate while your doing it so it stops you thinking/ worrying about other stuff. Book your class I'm sure you will love it (the only thing I don't like is the bruises)

OP posts:
strartingtotry · 01/08/2017 12:03

No I wasn't doing invert prep work, I did inverting years ago when I used to go to classes and I've never had a bruise like this one, it was massive.

I think I did it when I did a spin where I had my left arm low and right arm high, then had to pull my legs in towards the pole so i was kind of wrapped around the pole.

I do bruises very easily tho

OP posts:
Iamtheresurrection · 01/08/2017 20:59

Just remembered I tried pole as part of a hen do and ended up with dodgy looking bruises all down my inner thighs.

Managed body pump and barre already this week.

Let's keep motivating each other.

Dogmum2017 · 07/08/2017 11:09

Well I have been on a weeks leave and poorly to boot BUT I still dragged my butt to silks on Saturday :)
Glad I did, I am slower than a lot of the girls due to my poor upper body strength and my weight being higher but I still feel immense satisfaction when I complete a move.
We get graded next week and see if we can move up a level, I dont think I will be but I am happy just to keep going until I am ready.
I pay a monthly standing order to the studio and if I miss a class there are catch up days you can do that week :)

strartingtotry · 09/08/2017 14:04

Iam- well done you had a good week last week Smile I'm still only doing pole and nothing else but better than nothing!
