Anyone fancy a "Run 3 miles every day in June" challenge?

MrsDesperado · 01/06/2017 22:12

I know it's a bit late in the day - sorry.

Thought a challenge like this might do me some good for a few specific reasons:

Firstly, my running is hit and miss - I'll go twice one week and feel great, then won't go again for a couple of weeks, and then the next tine I go out I find it such a slog again. I'm hoping consistency will improve my fitness - it can only get easier, surely?

Secondly, I'd like to lose that pesky half of a stone that I've been trying to lose since January, and this might go some way towards me achieving that.

Finally, it would help to keep the black dog at bay and curb my compulsion to dive into a wine bottle when my stress levels reach a certain critical point.

Would anyone like to join me? Smile

It's a worry isn't it hamster? The safest time for me to go out is always the day after such an event, it's hardly an ideal solution. I do try to go to the loo before I go running but try as I might sometimes I just can't go at that point. Good luck to your DD in her biology gcse!

Wishing your DD luck Hamster !

Well done guys on your runs - I didn't make it out yesterday Sad but was out at 6.30am this morning for a steady 5km. It felt good in the sunshine! Will try and squeeze in an extra 3 miles this weekend to make up for Thursday's absence.

Parkrun tomorrow....

IsThatYouPaul · 09/06/2017 13:28

I think chocolate brioche is clearly your answer MrsD. Reckon it's got medicinal qualities.

Hope exam went ok for your DD Hamster. My DS sat it too, said it was "good". Which is apparently better than "fine".

A treadmill run of 3.5 miles today. Was going to go further, but the man on treadmill in front kept adjusting his genitalia (checking it was still there, presumably) and it really put me off my stride.

PossumInAPearTree · 09/06/2017 19:12

5k smashed yesterday afternoon and another this evening.

Blisters on top of blisters. Got new shoes yesterday but think my feet are already too shredded for new shoes to make a difference!

MrsDesperado · 09/06/2017 22:56

Reporting in late tonight. Was utterly shattered today, and was supposed to be in bed by 8 (do I told myself..) but here I am...

So I went out at .8pm, literally had to be pushed out the door by DH, who has been very duppportive of this whole endeavour. Anyway, despite being ridiculously tired and feeling the threat of a sore throats/cold coming on, I did it - I managed 3.5 miles for day 9. And it was easy! Once I got going, of purse. But I can feel how much I've improved since doing this, and it's not such a big deal anymore. So I'm feeling pleased with myself, for making the effort to get out when all I really wanted to do was eat malteasers in bed.

Hope everyone else has had a good running day today. Sorry about your feet Possum, I hope they get better soon!

Well done MrsD for running when you really didn't feel like it - you are doing really well! Go you Halo

MrsDesperado · 09/06/2017 23:03

Thank you Delaney. By committing to this it's really opened my eyes to what is possible. A lot of the excuses I've previously used woukdnt cut it!

Anyone else worried about injury?

People at work are full of doom and gloom about what a bad idea this is. Something went click in my hip last night and I have pins and needles all down one leg and lower back pain. Really want to run this morning but don't want to make it worse.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 10/06/2017 12:20

Didn't get round to posting yesterday but job done.... 4.8 miles run/walked and home in time for the shopping...

DD also said Biology was "ok" so seems not to be a disaster....

And then today's run.... went out yo Clumber with OH and DD as they were doing park run.... set off round the lake instead so I would stick to my run walk schedule...

Another wet day... within 1/2 a Mile I squelched with every step but 4.5 miles done ...and trainers went for a spin dry again too

Possum sounds like you may have trapped a nerve or similar? I would find a chiro, physio or osteopath - they should be able to sort it out...

I am keeping pace very slow so am not overly concerned about new injuries.... still rehabbing the one from trying to pretend i'm still young enough for the mosh pitBlush

Kit30 · 10/06/2017 12:29

Signed up even though not built for running ( bug boobs) Might have to go out after dark!

Kit30 · 10/06/2017 12:29

Big not bug. Doh! Confused

DelaneyHasAUseForMe · 10/06/2017 15:38

Possum I would think you need to rest and maybe get checked out if you have back pain and pins and needles. Not too worried about injury from this myself, I'm taking it steady and am used to running regularly anyway. My colleagues would probably say the same, which is why I haven't mentioned it Grin

Parkrun completed this morning - not a great time, but not my worst either. Only 2 more parkruns to go until I reach my 50th - woohoo!

lljkk · 10/06/2017 16:54

I think some people can do 3 or 10 or more miles every day without injury risk, for years, & others it's too dodgy even for 2 weeks. It's only a little personal challenge. Don't do it if it doesn't suit you.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 10/06/2017 17:40

Kit30 good bra essential.... 30g here... restrained by shock absorber....

MrsDesperado · 10/06/2017 20:38

Evenin' all!

Each day that passes I find harder to muster the motivation to get out. Even still, each run is progressively easier than the one before. I worry that one day I won't be able to overcome this inertia, and I won't go out for my three mile run. It's funny how the voice in your head wants to convince you not to go out, even though the likelihood is that the run will feel easier than the story before.

Anyway. I'm pleased to report that today I did overcome the inertia, and ran exactly 1.5 miles up my road, turned around, and ran exactly 1.5 miles home. Day 10 is done.

I hope everyone else had a good run today, and I'd finding getting that first foot out of the door a bit easier than me.

Sadly I think I'm out.

Ran ok this morning. Am now in agony with unilateral lower back pain and pins and needles down one side. I had a similar pain years ago when I went a bit crazy doing Insanity most days and ended up in hospital unable to walk for a week on serious morphine. I broke my back a few years ago and it's never been right since.

Am gutted because since then I've avoided high impact stuff, so no more insanity, aerobics, etc and thought anything else would be ok.

I'm now just worried that any exercise is fucking me up.

Off to find a chiropractor next week.

PossumInAPearTree · 10/06/2017 20:52

And I'm upset because I was enjoying the running so much, I was getting better and fitter.

AuntieStella · 10/06/2017 21:32

I think I'm still on track.

I log both walking and running on an app, and I've covered 33.5 mikes this week, and I did my other sport once.

AuntieStella · 10/06/2017 21:35

Really sorry to read that possum

Can I ask, what are the reasons to choose to see a chiropractor rather than an osteopath? (Genuine question, not comment on your choice)

Also, have you ever tried the Alexander Technique?

MrsDesperado · 10/06/2017 21:39

Oh no Possum! That doesn't sound good. I'm so sorry to hear this. I do hope you get better soon Flowers

OP posts:
PossumInAPearTree · 10/06/2017 21:50

stella. Dunno, not even sure of the difference. Do you think an osteopath would be better? I've seen a physio before who said my SI joint either moved too much/or was stuck.......csnt remember which....think it was stuck.

They gave me exercises to do and it got 95% better but still always clunked with every step.....like an audible clunk when I lower my leg.

Alexander technique is posture isntbit? Never tried it....always assumed as I blatantly have a mechanical problem that it's beyond posture adjustment?

PossumInAPearTree · 10/06/2017 23:09

Just thought I got new trainers on Thursday.....have run 15k in them. Was fine before then. Was wondering if it could be the new shoes.....But surely 15k isn't enough to do damage if it was the shoes?

They're expensive brooks ones which I had gait analysis for. They're stability ones, previously I was in a neutral shoe but I do over pronate.

lljkk · 11/06/2017 07:58

Wow, Possom, just seeing you've been thru the wars. Blisters & now the back thing.

May I ask how much running you did in April & May this year?
