Anyone fancy a "Run 3 miles every day in June" challenge?

I know it's a bit late in the day - sorry.

Thought a challenge like this might do me some good for a few specific reasons:

Firstly, my running is hit and miss - I'll go twice one week and feel great, then won't go again for a couple of weeks, and then the next tine I go out I find it such a slog again. I'm hoping consistency will improve my fitness - it can only get easier, surely?

Secondly, I'd like to lose that pesky half of a stone that I've been trying to lose since January, and this might go some way towards me achieving that.

Finally, it would help to keep the black dog at bay and curb my compulsion to dive into a wine bottle when my stress levels reach a certain critical point.

Would anyone like to join me? Smile

Am joining as I desperately need to lose some weight and tone up and get fitter but I need to sleep so I will be back...

AuntieStella · 06/06/2017 08:33

Planned short run this morning, but it's pissing down. Anyone send me some motivation, please?

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 06/06/2017 08:43

Consider this a shove to get out there....

I went out at 7 and gave just spun dried my trainers and jacket....

So much for "light rain"... but tbh once you're wet you just carry on...,

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 06/06/2017 08:46

Also... I'll join you all... have done at least 3 Mile run/walk everyday so far....

I am rehabbing a bad sprain so have started with a run walk plan to keep impact down on my ankle but am running every day as I have a 10k on 1st July that I want to run then more training for GNR in September.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 06/06/2017 08:49

possum provided you keep the pace easy for most days and listen to your body if you have any niggles, you should be ok....

Just treat at least 3 days as "recovery" runs at a very easy pace and balance out any speed work or effort on the other days ....

AuntieStella · 06/06/2017 09:26

Thank you - just the kick I needed!

Also, I have a brand new pair of running shoes, which I got (after trotting round the shop in at least 6 pairs) despite being bright neon orange. I'd hoped that going out in the wet might start the process of toning the colour down a bit. It doesn't seem to have worked.

One thing I noticed is that nearly all the morning joggers had vanished (dissolved?) and only a handful of die-hards were running at all, for the first time all the jocks are nodding and saying hello as we pass each other. Maybe I look like a runner after all! Or at least the shoes do....

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 06/06/2017 10:47

I 'll swap you the neon orange for a disgustingly bright pink.... only bought them as the guy was fantastic and shop said they didn't come in any other colour....

Since found a tasteful black and white version on line so next time will be buying those shoes Grin

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 06/06/2017 10:48

Fit not guy.... shop was actually run completely by women Smile

PossomInAPearTree · 06/06/2017 14:14

Meant to say my feet were ok in 1000 mile socks yesterday so thanks for the recommendation

DelaneyHasAUseForMe · 06/06/2017 18:10

Auntie and Hamster I am feeling your pain with the neon trainers - mine are a ridiculously bright pinky orange - literally every pair in the shop that fit me were a hideous colour, so I just had to go with it! A few cross-country runs in the mud has managed to tone them down Grin

Managed my 5km in the wind/rain today!! Pleased with myself as I would not have gone out in this if it weren't for the challenge and this thread.

lljkk · 06/06/2017 20:28

Well done to anyone who got out running in the rain today!

MrsDesperado · 06/06/2017 20:58

5km on the treadmill this morning for day 6 - done!

Well done to everyone who braved the elements this morning, it was is truly foul, I'm very impressed!

5km took me 31 minutes, feel like I'm going slower. I've not been sleeping so well so that might be why.

Morning...

Bit blustery today but at least it was dry...

4.25 miles run/walk done .... that's 9 consecutive days for me out of my 3 times a week 10 week plan 😀 at this rate I'll finish it by 28th June... then will carry on with building back up distance with continuous running...

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 07/06/2017 09:38

Delaney you are dedicated going cross country.... the grass and mud doesn't appeal at all though I quite enjoy trails...

Why is it that all the running shoe companies think we want such foul colours.... a bit of hi viz is good but really.... the whole shoe??

Pleased to say though mine had dried in time for this morning so I didn't need to switch to my reserve pair ... spin dry and leave by a radiator did the trick...

PossomInAPearTree · 07/06/2017 11:09

I am so happy. This morning for the first time in years I ran 5k non stop. No recovery walking minutes at all. Did it in just under 40 mins. In the gym thankfully, not outside in awful weather.

PossomInAPearTree · 07/06/2017 18:49

Diy blister drain

Anyone fancy a "Run 3 miles every day in June" challenge?
MrsDesperado · 07/06/2017 18:56

Ooft possum!

Just dragging myself out for a run that I CANNOT be bothered to do. Why oh why did I start this challenge? At least the sun is shining, smsll mercies and all that...

lljkk · 07/06/2017 19:00

ha!

MrsDesperado · 07/06/2017 19:41

Exactky 3.5 miles on day 7 - done!

Quite enjoyed that one, funny how that happens when you least expect it eh? I am having a bit of trouble with stomach cramps around mile 3, though, and I have to run to the loo when I get in. Anyone else have this problem? I wish I knew how to prevent it from happening.

IsThatYouPaul · 07/06/2017 21:46

Well done Mrs, you're storming it there.

Monday miles = zilch.
Tuesday miles = zero (unless spinning class counts, in which LOADS probably)
Today = 3.2 miles

So not meeting challenge, but bloody proud of myself for getting out in the torrential rain this evening. I'm having that.

DelaneyHasAUseForMe · 07/06/2017 21:47

Ooh MrsD stomach cramps doesn't sound good - is it affected by what/when you eat before running? I find that I have to run on an empty stomach, though I have friends that can run just an hour or so after dinner, so I guess we are all different....

Managed my steady 3 miles again today round the local park. Still a bit nervous about falling again, so not going full pelt but at least I'm getting out there.....

IsThatYouPaul · 07/06/2017 22:04

MrsD I've only had stomach cramps when I've had too much coffee. But I often need the coffee to get out and run. So. Bit stuck there.

Hope you get sorted. I have heard that running loosens you up a bit. It's not just your legs that are moving.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 08/06/2017 11:11

Another damp run today but nowhere near as wet as Tuesday...

4.8 miles in just over an hour of run/walk intervals... on track with my plan for 10k on 1st July .... hopefully mostly running by then.

MrsDesperado · 08/06/2017 21:39

A soggy 3.5 miles completed for day 8bthis evening - done!

No stomach cramps tonight, thankfully. Despite scoffing a chocolate chip brioche and a cuppa as soon as got in from work and 45 mins before my run. So I don't know what causes it. Sometimes it happens first thing, before ive eaten anything, too Confused Sorry to hear others suffer, too.

Hope everyone has had good runs today Smile

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 08/06/2017 21:59

Good to hear stomach cramps not a problem tonight....

I get problems sometimes but it's usually 1st thing in the morning before eating or drinking and equally hard to work out why (other than too much caffeine most of the time).

Never seems to be a reason why of why not so I skyways go before I go and hope for the best....

Got to be out early tomorrow for my next one.... have Ocado delivering between 7:30 and 8:30 and need to be back as teen DS won't be up and teen DD will be doing her make up and hair before school and her biology gcse....
