Anyone fancy a "Run 3 miles every day in June" challenge?

MrsDesperado · 01/06/2017 22:12

I know it's a bit late in the day - sorry.

Thought a challenge like this might do me some good for a few specific reasons:

Firstly, my running is hit and miss - I'll go twice one week and feel great, then won't go again for a couple of weeks, and then the next tine I go out I find it such a slog again. I'm hoping consistency will improve my fitness - it can only get easier, surely?

Secondly, I'd like to lose that pesky half of a stone that I've been trying to lose since January, and this might go some way towards me achieving that.

Finally, it would help to keep the black dog at bay and curb my compulsion to dive into a wine bottle when my stress levels reach a certain critical point.

Would anyone like to join me? Smile

Well I parkran - so that's my first run in June done!

Think I'll aim for 3 more runs before next Saturday. I'm quite slow, and am not troubling the 30 minute 5k barrier just yet, but that's my aim.

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday for me then is the plan. One intervally-type thing, one 5k, and one longer.

PossomInAPearTree · 03/06/2017 12:17

Did 6k in 48mins this morning which included some hills. Am slow but I get there! Hopefully by the end of the month I might be a bit quicker.

DelaneyHasAUseForMe · 03/06/2017 13:13

3 miles on the treadmill done... so pleased I saw this thread as I had convinced myself to give up running on Thursday (3rd fall in 9 months and fed up with it). However, back on it now and managed it in 26 mins.

Well done everyone else on their runs this morning! MrsD you should definitely give parkrun a go - I can assure you that most of us don't go round in anywhere near 17 minutes and everyone is so encouraging, I'm so pleased I started going.

MrsDesperado · 03/06/2017 21:44

Well done everyone on their runs today!

Day 3 - done!

Ended up going out at 8:15pm which is rubbish but the only time I could fit in in what with husband working. Managed 3.2 miles before I had to stop to walk because I urgently needed the loo. But it was much easier that yesterday - it was a lot cooler though. Not sure how long it look me if my pace as I didn't end up charging my garmin in the end! Must do it for tomorrow!

I was So Not in the mood for going out and I am so pleased I did. I'm finding that in doing this challenge, I don't talk myself out if it at all. I really hope I keep this up.

Tomorrow I will go out again late due to my husband working.

Parkrun I think I may try next month when I've massively improved !

Jaimx86 I looked up that App and its £1.99 - is that the right one?

Thanks for the website recommendation Brexit I'll take a look.

Well done Mrs !

Like many before, I wholeheartedly recommend parkrun, at absolutely whatever stage you're at.

HuckfromScandal · 04/06/2017 07:29

Just seen this
I am in!!!
Already got 3 days done - including yesterday's parkrun
Hoping it will

Kickstart metabolism a little
And
Kickstart my love for running again!

Did it in December - and it was amazing

HuckfromScandal · 04/06/2017 07:34

And please don't be put of the super speedy at parkrun
I run with a club - and we have loads of sub 17. I struggle to get sub 30 and my achievements are as widely applauded as others.
Yesterday I was 201 of 270 finishers
Anyone I have persuaded to come has enjoyed the comeraderie of it
Please give it a try it's for everyone

PossomInAPearTree · 04/06/2017 14:52

Had to hit the stop button on the treadmill at just under 5k today as my feet were killing me. Hobbled out the gym, got home and I've got massive blisters in both feet. Really not sure I can run tomorrow.

IsThatYouPaul · 04/06/2017 14:55

I would just like to plonk a lovely comfortable 4.7 miles down here, from this morning.

Really enjoyed it, no idea how conditions aligned to make it feel like that, but they did.

A slow steady run, so need to do sprinty-things / interval stuff in next couple of days.

Jaimx86 · 04/06/2017 15:06

Possum, I brought the 1000 mile socks and haven't had a blister since. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NQLKM5I/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21 They're brill but I've never done more than 10km in them.

PossomInAPearTree · 04/06/2017 15:16

Will order some now, my foot size in shoe size is sometimes a 5, sometimes a 6. Do you think the socks come up a bit big or a bit small? Not sure whether to get the size which stops at 5.5, or the one which starts at 6.

MrsDesperado · 04/06/2017 16:40

YY to the 1000 miles socks, I've done 2 half marathons in them and didn't get a single blister

Well done everyone who's already run today, I'll be going out as soon as I can hand the kids over!

OP posts:
Jaimx86 · 04/06/2017 17:06

I've got the 6-8.5 and they fit they size 6 feet snugly. They're like compression socks in places so have a tight fit.

DelaneyHasAUseForMe · 04/06/2017 19:32

Managed to get out but my 3 miles was more of a brisk walk/jog combo as I'm a bit hungover today (40th birthday party last night). Still, at least I did it...

Might have a look at those 1000 mile socks too, I've always got blisters!

AuntieStella · 04/06/2017 19:37

I've got the Hilly twin-skin socks and have never blistered (only time I did was with Decathlon own brand - disappointing as everything else I've had from them has been great).

I did 3 hours of my other sport today, so it's still going according to plan.

PossomInAPearTree · 04/06/2017 19:39

I get blisters with Hilly twin socks. Have ordered some 1000 mile ones.

My PT saw me in the gym today....he'd seen that I posted on fb about running 5k every day and told me not to. Said I will get an injury.

MrsDesperado · 04/06/2017 20:57

3.6 miles on day 4 - done!

Phew! Again, I didn't especially fancy going out, and would ordinarily have happily talked myself out if it, but do you know what? The miles are feeling shorter, and it's not the big deal I seem to think it's going to be.

Jaimx86 · 05/06/2017 17:16

3 miles just done. Bloody tough with this miserable weather. Plan to bank 5miles tomorrow.

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 05/06/2017 17:24

Good luck everyone....

I did 'run every day in May' .... it was tough! But I did it ( not a full 3 miles ever day tho)

I'm doing 30 day squat challenge for June

MrsDesperado · 05/06/2017 19:38

3.3 miles for day 5 - done!

Well done in the abysmal weather Jaimx86. It cleared up here this afternoon so I went out then, but this morning was truly horrible!

Thanks for sharing your challenge Mum. What did you find the most tough? Finding the time? It's good to hear it's doable though!

OP posts:
MumIsRunningAMarathon · 05/06/2017 19:41

finding the motivation after work....coming home hungry but had to run before i could eat

and the huge washing pile!!

DelaneyHasAUseForMe · 05/06/2017 20:56

5km done!! Hope the weather improves this week as it's pretty grim out there....

Mum what is the squat challenge?

MrsDesperado · 05/06/2017 21:45

Well done Delaney!

Yes Mum the washing!! This isn't helping an already critical situation!

PossomInAPearTree · 05/06/2017 22:00

MrsDesperado · 05/06/2017 22:47
