Definitely not mad mummypenguin2 even if you could only walk round you would be fine, or run/walk it. parkrun is very welcoming, I often tailwalk my local run - the last time was 1hr 7mins Smile

MummyPenguin2 · 24/10/2017 21:10

Great! Thanks for your reply blackcat

MelanieCheeks · 29/10/2017 09:18

My old skeleton leggings, a new skeleton top (whose shoulders keep falling down), my Marcel Marceau hat given a new lease of life with some miniature skulls taken off a pack of scary straws. And Minnie's glow in the dark skeleton outfit. And lots of face paint. Taken at Belfast Victoria.

Next week I'llbe in Perth, so at least I'll see the letters PB appear in my running history.....

Sparkly new parkrun PB for me today, I got to ring the PB bell for first time since Feb 2016. GrinGrinGrinGrin

MelanieCheeks · 04/11/2017 15:47

Oh that must have felt amazing-well done!

I'm way off pb times at the minute, but had fun in Perth, where the route is right beside where my dance weekend takes place, very convenient.

ThursdayLastWeek · 11/11/2017 11:35

New park rundown here in Cornwall today - at the Eden project. It's certainly faster than lanhydrock!

Blanchitsu · 11/11/2017 17:22

PB! 23.01

TriJo · 11/11/2017 23:37

Managed to actually run the whole way at Fulham Palace today in 31:40. 27 weeks on Monday. This kid will come out in apricot :)

Iwantacampervan · 12/11/2017 09:00

Joining this thread - I'm relatively new to Parkruns (since end August) but have tried to either take part or volunteer when I can. I couldn't go yesterday and I miss it! I'm not a runner so I jog slowly the first part and then walk very briskly - my aim is to build up the length of time run (will need to get a couch to 5k downloaded). I've discovered that I can join a nearby parkrun along the seafront on Christmas Day - it'll just be me, the dog and 2 'nocturnal' teenagers for the day (we may see friends later on).
I've signed up for a '1000 miles in a year challenge' for 2018 organised by Country Walking magazine and aim to start on 1st Jan with my local Parkrun.

MyBlackCat · 12/11/2017 18:11

Welcome iwantacampervan

I touristed (is that a word?) at Coventry this week. Tarmac 2 lap course but very busy for the narrow-ish paths and as I had the buggy and started at the back I spent most of the first lap weaving onto the grass to overtake.

Still loved it though Smile

There's a new Parkrun setting up near me this Saturday and I'm hoping to go along and give it a try. I've only been getting into the fitness jam for six months, when I started my BMI was >33 and I couldn't run for more than a few hundred metres. I've lost weight (down to BMI 27) and got better stamina from a lot of time plodding away on cardio equipment in the gym - I've actually jogged 5km on the treadmill a few times now, but still have only ventured out on a couple of shorter "real world" runs outside by myself. I'm a little daunted at the prospect of running with a load of other people and that I'll probably have to have the odd walking breather - it's difficult to pace myself when I don't have the treadmill doing it for me, plus just harder going on not dead flat ground. Also bit scared of wet leaves and mud, and coming a cropper on one or the other! Hopefully I'll survive and who knows maybe it's the start of a whole new love for Parkruns. Smile

TriJo · 14/11/2017 11:55

You'll be absolutely fine! Parkrunners are a friendly bunch and the likelihood is that no matter what there will be a good few people around your pace regardless. Walking breathers are not an issue either - you'll be far from the only one who will take one if you do need to walk and some people just walk the whole thing anyway.

Lovelilies · 14/11/2017 20:15

Not RTFT but just popping in to say DD1 (12) and I are doing our first parkrun this Saturday fingers crossed!
All inspired by an AIBU thread about a woman who loves running Grin

MyBlackCat · 18/11/2017 16:39

Hope you enjoyed it lovelillies

I was a tourist at Brierley Forest today, really nice two lap course and great value cobs in the cafe after - will be back Smile

Lovelilies · 18/11/2017 17:13

We did! I got 35:29, not bad for a first timer? I did walk a bit Grin

Iwantacampervan · 18/11/2017 17:21

Well done Lovelilies - hope you and your daughter enjoyed it. If you don't feel like running one week then volunteering is good fun as well - I was a marshal today.

TriJo · 18/11/2017 21:11

Back home to Highbury Fields this week - ran with a woman from my NCT group and we chatted the whole way around, was fun :) Got around in about 33 minutes, which I can't be complaining about considering that the third trimester starts on Monday!

givemushypeasachance · 20/11/2017 09:28

I enjoyed my first go at the new run, and it was certainly very popular - 679 runners! Everyone from kids to dogs to a t-rex, so I did my slow jog around and was pleased to find I didn't need to walk even up the hilly bits. The organisers actually ran out of finish tokens and had to take several hundred times manually - kudos to them for getting it all recorded when they were clearly a bit swamped. There was some cake too which is always a plus in my book. Grin I won't be able to make it every week but intend to run again when I can.

malovitt · 25/11/2017 08:21

I'd like to give it a go but upon checking the results page of my local Parkrun, it shows that nearly everyone finishes under 30 minutes, with just a handful over that.
A bit daunting for a slow first- timer!

reallyneedmoresleep · 25/11/2017 11:35

Yes!!!! I broke my leg early last year and have been slowly building up my fitness and running this year. I am a total plodder but set myself a goal of under 30 minutes by the end of the year. 29.42 this morning! Go me!

Iwantacampervan · 25/11/2017 12:12

I was funnel manager this morning ! It was very cold out of the sun but there were no problems and everyone was in sync with the numbers (only 213 participants so not too bad to count).
malovit if you go along to your Parkrun - maybe offer to volunteer as a marshal (no skills or previous experience required) - you can judge for yourself what the course is like and where you would fit. I was really unsure so did this first as I'm not really a runner (more of a fast walker) - I've found everyone encouraging.

Standingonlego · 25/11/2017 16:17

Hope everyone had a good run or a happy volunteer this morning. DS1 ran by himself for first time at our local parkrun today (just turned 11) and smashed his PB by 5 mins- now officially faster than I have EVER been Grin

blackcat shout if you are at Brierly again, it is local to my parents and my Mum is a regular Marshall there. The cafe is super !

HalleLouja · 28/11/2017 15:11

Managed to run and volunteer this weekend. Everyone in my family got a parkrun pb apart from my son. So there were some happy parkrunners. Also got to get dressed up as a bee. So was a lot of fun.

So now my parkrun pb is getting close to my actual 5k pb. Think I need to try and run somewhere flat the next time I have a chance but now DH has caught the bug I have to be nice to him.

megletthesecond · 02/12/2017 17:49

Ran today but have lost any sense of speed Confused. Happy to plod round but hope I pick up again in the new year.

Hope everyone had a good morning 🏃‍♀️.

megletthesecond · 02/12/2017 17:49

Not sure what that emoji is. It was just meant to be a runner.
