thanks emummy I also found one from Lossiemouth. I've got the Manchester Marathon in April so looking for something before then! I have heard good things about the Inverness Half (think it's mainly downhill like Aviemore?)

londonmummy1966 · 13/11/2016 12:17

Glorious photo the only wish I had somewhere that nice to run. Good luck with that one fifty I don't feel like running another 13 miles this side of Christmas.....

Got out into the Royal parks for a 10 miler in the sunshine this morning - lots of little groups of military bandsmen warming up which is always good to watch and I ran past the gun carriages assembling in the Mall. Now absolutely shattered.

There's a half in Feb at glentress just outside Edinburgh.

I'm doing a 10km there next week, so I'll let you know what it's like.

chutneypig · 20/11/2016 13:14

After a very dodgy parkrun yesterday when I could cheerfully have dropped out, had a lovely 10k charity run today so I might brave the half next month. Maybe Grin. Just with the aim of finishing.

londonmummy1966 · 20/11/2016 17:38

Well done chutney - just got back from a 10k - probably the fastest one I've done in a year or so. Having been without heating and much hot water for the last 2 weeks I'm now going to luxuriate in a nice long soak.....

chutneypig · 22/11/2016 06:23

Well done you too london - bet that soak felt good!

anothermadamebutterfly · 22/11/2016 22:53

Hi, can I join in? I have been running on and off for years and have really caught the bug over the past year or so. No half marathons on the horizon, but planning a few 10k runs in the spring and then a marathon in late 2017.

natwebb79 · 22/11/2016 23:17

Can I join please? Been running for a couple of years, finally achieved my target of running sub 60 10ks so signed up for my first half, gulp! Got up to 11 miles so far...

natwebb79 · 22/11/2016 23:18

Anyone else on here running the Norwich half in April?

chutneypig · 23/11/2016 07:09

Welcome to both of you! It's a little quieter on here than it has been as not many of us are doing any halls soon, but everyone pops back in and out and I'm sure there are grand half plans for next year.

Have you got a marathon in mind another?

If you're up to 11 miles now you'll do great nat. I only got to sub 60 10ks after the halfs and never do more than 10 miles ahead of the day.

I'm going to see how the weather is for my half next month, the numbers arrived, if it's very cold, raining or very windy then I'll skip I think. Partly as I want to enjoy it and partly as there's a 2.30 hour cut off and it won't take much at all in the way of adversity (plus there are hills!) to be around there.

natwebb79 · 23/11/2016 07:42

Thanks Chutney! Sounds like you're the voice of experience so may well need your wisdom in the coming few months. I found myself in the shower this morning thinking 'I should do a marathon before I'm 40...'. Aaaargh! Addictive this running lark.

Theonlyoneiknow · 23/11/2016 08:08

I find it so hard to get motivated in the winter without a race in the distance.

Has anyone done the Inverness Half? I'm thinking of having that as my pre- Manchester marathon (eeeks!) half

anothermadamebutterfly · 23/11/2016 08:30

Thanks chutney! Yes, I am signed up for the first ever marathon in Birmingham next October. There is a half on the same day, and the option (I think) to change to that sooner if training doesn't go as planned, but I would really like to do the marathon.

I quite like running in the winter as it gets me out of the house and I like the cold air. I live in a city, though, so I just go out the front door and start running, there are some reasonably well-lit routes. Can't face morning runs.

Natwebb, I am trying to get 10k under 60mins at the moment, at the moment I am hovering at the 61-62mins mark.

emummy · 23/11/2016 11:20

Welcome all! Hope your training goes well through the winter. Theonly I was thinking of doing Inverness half as part of my London training so might see you there! It gets good reviews I think and Inverness is nice!

Theonlyoneiknow · 23/11/2016 12:52

Hi emummy That would be good! The other one I was thinking of was the Kinloss to Lossiemouth Half which is in February? Did you get into London via the ballot? I was lucky enough to get in last year. We flew into City which is right next to the Expo then moved to Greenwich for the Saturday night. It's Manchester for me this year and then the Glen Lyon Ultra in May (I'm still questioning why I've decided to enter that one!).

It's the dark evenings that get me in the winter, although I love the crisp weather! Had a lovely run along the coast at lunchtime, am lucky to have this on my doorstep. Think that's cleared my sinuses today!

emummy · 23/11/2016 16:14

Kinloss sounds nice but is a bit early for me. I did get in on the ballot, was a bit unexpected! Did you enjoy London? I will be going down myself on the Saturday, hit the expo for a short time, then slob out in the hotel for the evening!
Looks like you have a lovely route to run! I try to do my runs in the morning, have to drive the children around in the evenings!

Theonlyoneiknow · 23/11/2016 16:26

I did Garioch (Inverurie) as my pre-marathon half last year (my PB half so far!) It's a really lovely route with great views. I loved London although it all passed by in a bit of a blur and is a bit hazy now. I only really remember going over Tower Bridge and under the tunnels around the Isle of Dogs. I ended up running an extra 2km (!!!) by weaving to get around people. The guy who did my training plan had warned me about it but I totally forgot in all the excitement! Because the road is so wide I think most people end up running 1km+ over (unless they stay on the blue line!)

I work near the coast so that photo was from today's lunchtime run :-)

FiftyNineOhEight · 27/11/2016 00:24

Hello all, just popping on to place make after falling off the thread. My next HM is a week tomorrow and I have run the grand total of 5K in the last two weeks Shock. I'm looking at it as a loooong taper Grin

stilllearnin · 27/11/2016 10:25

Fresh legs 5908...very fresh Grin

emummy · 27/11/2016 12:49

They do say it's better to race undertrained rather than over.....good luck!

chutneypig · 27/11/2016 17:29

Reassure me Fifty, when was your last long run?!

Theonlyoneiknow · 27/11/2016 23:18

Agree about under vs over trained! You'll be fine 5908 Smile

madgingermunchkin · 28/11/2016 21:49

Sorry I've been radio silence, work has been manic and have trained at all recently. Now struggling to get back into it.

Someone kick me up the arse?

FiftyNineOhEight · 29/11/2016 05:48

Ummmm, RPHM I think chutney, in October.

This is not the first time this has happened, although I always swear I won't do it again.

Up early for boot camp at least I am getting a bit of cross training in.

chutneypig · 29/11/2016 06:50

I've not done anything over 10kmsince my half in September. I'm wavering a bit now, my last few parkruns have felt rubbish too, then I heard someone talking about the route and how hilly it was. And he's not a bloke to be put off by hills. And there's the 2.30 cut off too, but I can't quite let it go yet.

Enjoy boot camp Fifty you know you'll feel good when it's done!

I'll give you a kick if you give me one mad Smile I don't know what's got into me at the moment, it's not my mojo that's for sure!
