High five vet welcome to the special club of runners who have come last in a HM (I am a fully paid up member of that club)

still all the very best for tomorrow (and yes, we want a picture of your start line outfit) Smile

Hello to new posters, this is a lovely thread to be on.

I had a (by my recent standards) pretty fast parkrun today - first run since the RPHM, although I did bootcamp on Tuesday and yoga yesterday.

Veterinari · 15/10/2016 23:04

Thanks everyone!
Still good luck for tomorrow - you'll be grand!

I honestly don't care about coming last - there were about 25 runners in the race and the conditions were tough so with my lack of training I had zero expectations of coming anywhere else! I'm just happy to have made sub 1.40! When I was training I'd hoped for sub 1.30 but maybe next time on a friendlier course!

emummy · 16/10/2016 08:02

Well done Veterinari, that sounds like a tough race.

ZigAZigAhh · 16/10/2016 08:21

Well done vet - sounds like an excellent effort.

Ugh this weather is grim - I was meant to be walking 20 mins to a bus stop to get to the start of mine this morning but have chickened out and got an Uber instead Grin the driver can't believe I am going to be voluntarily running in it and keeps giving me strange looks in the rear view mirror...

chutneypig · 16/10/2016 18:05

Really well done Vet that sounds tough so a great thing to have done.

Hope you got on OK still, I was thinking of you as I was running through torrential rain today. My shoes felt so heavy so was glad it was only 10k. Waiting on the official times but reckon I knocked 7 minutes off of last years time and over a minute off my PB (which infuriatingly was 1:00:00!).

vet I scared the rain off with my get up!! it was pretty glorious - you did so well!

standingonlego · 17/10/2016 20:30

Loving the before and after still :)

I am on track with my training for my 12th Nov Trail HM, 11 miles in the pouring rain done yesterday

ZigAZigAhh · 17/10/2016 20:35

Well done still and standing!

I slid and skidded my way through my half yesterday (mud everywhere, my poor shoes will never be the same), it was the first trail run I have ever done and I really enjoyed it. Managed a 2:09 which I was very happy with given the conditions and my relaxed approach to training this time around.

I feel quite sad that it's over now, it was nice having something to train for. I've got my eye on a different one in Feb that I might have a look at...

emummy · 18/10/2016 06:36

Great pictures still, has your boyfriend thought about a career in fashion?!
well done Zig, great time and sounds like it was good fun too.
Glad the training's going well standing

chutneypig · 18/10/2016 06:43

Fantastic pics both still well done!

Hopefully you won't get rain like that on the big day standing but great training.

That's a great time Zig especially under those conditions. You definitely need another one to look forward to.

londonmummy1966 · 18/10/2016 07:12

Brilliant vet still and zig and I'm just loving the yellow rain hat....

Hats off to standing - I wimped out of my long run on Sunday afternoon due to the downpour and had to do it later on - not sure that was such a good idea as trying to avoid slippy mushy leaves in the dark is not that easy.

5k today and tomorrow and then lots of pasta and water in the run up to Great South on Sunday - hoping that my run number will arrive as it seems to have got lost in the post.

Well done Still and Zig Smile

Having sworn off HMs after Saturday I'm now eyeing a few up... I like the idea of trail/challenge runs more than straight HMs
Any suggestions?

Runningupthathill82 · 18/10/2016 08:12

Depends where you are really, vet - in my neck of the woods, there's a different fell or trail race every week. But then we're in fell running country and like to run up hills (hence my username!)
Think such races might be less common elsewhere in the country?
As a starting point, Lakeland Trails organise the biggest trail races, and the scenery is utterly beautiful. But check out the FRA fixtures online for the kind of "turn up on the day, pay a fiver, run through a bog and then eat cake" stuff.
There's two coming up near Huddersfield in December that I'm looking at, both organised by Team OA. One is the Pieathlon (four miles, four pie stations) and one is The Drop, where you're dropped in the countryside with no phone and no map and have to find your way back...

FiftyNineOhEight · 18/10/2016 08:15

Welll done still I love the start line outfit Smile

Amazing time Zig well done Smile

Great commitment lego especially in such foul weather Halo

london all the best for the weekend. Here are some more carbs for you Cake

FiftyNineOhEight · 18/10/2016 08:25

running the Pieathlon sounds amazing! It's funny, I hated x-country at school but really enjoy off-road running now I am old!

stilllearnin · 18/10/2016 09:36

So, can we have a roll call of who has what coming up? I've lost tract a bit!

stilllearnin · 18/10/2016 09:41

track...not tract!

emummy · 19/10/2016 17:47

I will probably do a half in March as part of London training, but nothing before that still.

stilllearnin · 19/10/2016 22:43

I fancy the bath half but its really pricey!

FiftyNineOhEight · 19/10/2016 22:59

I have my local running club's half in December but nothing else booked. I went to visit DS1 today and there are Sheffield 10k signs all over the city and I keep getting emails from the organisers. But as my left calf hasn't been the same since the Sheffield half in April I am going to resist.

chutneypig · 20/10/2016 05:07

I'm doing a local half in December, but training is a bit half hearted. It's very undulating so I'll be less gunning for a PB and more trying to avoid the sweeper bus which is at the 2.30 mark. Gulp.

Probably best to avoid Fifty but there always that should I moment when you see sign or get emails isn't there. Now that is undulating up there isn't it?

When's Bath still?

London training sounds very grand emummy - half is a good plan, have you got any in mind yet?

The Pieathlon looks fantastic, wish we had more fun events within striking distance.

emummy · 20/10/2016 06:53

The training plan says do a half on March 12th chutney, which is the day of the Inverness half, so that's looking likely! Going to wait till new year to book it though.
