The new Sheffield 10k route looks fantastic, FiftyNine - far more picturesque than the old route up Penistone Road and back. And much flatter than the half, too!

I've got a 10k at the beginning of December, then lots of local fell and trail races.

Next "big" road event is probably the Sheffield half in April, but I'll be racing most weekends before then, depending on recovery (I've been off since August Angry).

stilllearnin · 20/10/2016 12:36

Hmmm Bath Half is March 12 and I don't think I can make it. There are plenty of others. I really want to do the New Forest race in September. Think I may need some stuff in between!!

I think we all like the look of the pieathlon. I have recruited dp to do the eating for me as I am vegan and he eats all the things. I also like the look of man v barge by the same crowd...lots of lovely research to do eh?

I don't fancy a sweeper at 2.30 chutney

Runningupthathill82 · 20/10/2016 12:55

The chocathlon at Easter is fab too - one year they had a bloke dressed as a deranged bunny chasing us. The organisers, Team OA, are quite fab. Reasonably priced events too, especially compared to road races.

Runningupthathill82 · 20/10/2016 12:57

still - can you eat apple pie? (Don't know if they're vegan, sorry!) Every year I've done the Pieathlon, Mr Kipling's apple pies have been one of the options. I find them easier to run on than pork pie too, TBH Grin

stilllearnin · 20/10/2016 21:06

some apple pies but not most! But you know, I could stuff them in my pocket for dp Grin I am nowhere near the event but I like to get about the uk! I will seriously consider the chocathlon for me and ds - he is also vegan, mind (and anaemic...sigh!).
I got a free pass to pure gym (which is about a mile jog from my house) so I am about to sign up for all the classes. But first I have a weekend away with my son and the obligatory carrot cake is in the oven (may have cantered slightly off topic, but I am sure I did not start it).

Imnotreadyforthis · 20/10/2016 21:15

Hello all! All the talk of pies and chocolate runs makes me crave cake!

They sound likefab runs! My friends and I have our eyes on a Prosecco Run which is run along the vineyards. But first I'd love to do my first HM, in 5 weeks yikes. I was doing quite well with my training but have had some pain in my right ankle since Sunday. Nothing too noticeable, so I've kept running, but today the pain is constant (but mild) and slightly swollen. I've got it under ice now, but feeling gutted.

What are my best chances of still doing the races? I'' thinking complete rest for a few days and lots of ice? If anyone can offer any advice I'd be very grateful!

madgingermunchkin · 22/10/2016 07:55

Forgot to post the other day, ran my first 10 miles a few days ago, (twice round holyrood!) and suffered no after effects. It was much more comfortable than I expected too, so am now very excited about the half next week. Just have a couple of gentle runs planned before then. Grin

emummy · 22/10/2016 16:18

That's great mad, enjoy your easy week.

londonmummy1966 · 22/10/2016 17:17

Thanks for the cake fifty Have just packed my bag for Great South tomorrow - hoping that this year SW trains will realise that the first train to Portsmouth is going to be busy and run 8 carriages instead of the 4 they put on last year...

Am debating what to do next - Hampton Court looks quite nice - lots of tow path and a flashy medal. Anyone any good ideas for a half in London/ the South this side of Christmas?

Hi

not been on this thread for months. My half is in 2 weeks. Nervous but quietly optimistic. Did my last long run before I start to taper - did 13.1 in just over 2hrs 18 - best time by 5 mins! Not going to break any records but my own Grin

IrianOfW · 22/10/2016 20:37

Only bugger is that I've slowed down generally. As if I had the room to get any slower!! My 10ks are a minute or so slower than in the spring. But I guess what matters is that i get to the end.

FiftyNineOhEight · 23/10/2016 10:09

Best wishes for today london. Hope the journey was better than last time and looking forward to hearing how you get on.

Welcome back Irian. You may find that running in a crowd helps you speed up. My RPHM 10 mile time was really fast ( by my standards!) but I ran out of steam towards the end (not for the first time!).

emummy · 23/10/2016 10:17

Good luck london

Runningupthathill82 · 23/10/2016 11:25

Hope you're enjoying it out there, london! Looks sunny on the telly.

londonmummy1966 · 23/10/2016 21:39

Thanks everyone - 1.45 so really happy as marginally faster than RPHM although my legs hurt a hell of a lot more today - maybe something to do with not having fifty there to drink champagne with afterwards..... Did however meet up with the lovely Mr, Mrs & baby Purple Pigeon from the parkrun thread.

Travelled down with a lovely guy who had also done RPHM and recommended Hampton Court so I may make that my next target unless anyone can recommend a nice half this side of Christmas.

OP posts:
chutneypig · 24/10/2016 07:00

Champagne is a great motivator! Hopefully they won't ache too much this week. You're doing well on your meet ups! Hampton Court does sound a good bet, lovely area, when is it?

I'd agree about getting carried along on the day Irian, I felt very sluggish the weeks before my last half.

devilinmyshoes · 26/10/2016 09:06

snooping for running chat londonmummy highly recommend festive forest there's a 10k, a half and a 20 mile race, have done a few of their half marathons and they are lovely laid back events with great food and camaraderie - the distance and timing not always too precise, I think there was no chip timing when I did a half there recently only a gun

am really sad not to be able to do it this year but not really too sad because will be recovering from marathon in Spain

stilllearnin · 26/10/2016 13:01

Oh bums! that looks like a great event devil and I have just this minute booked theatre tickets for that day!!

stilllearnin · 26/10/2016 13:02

i'm not ready your post got a bit lost in the chat I think...how are you doing now?

londonmummy1966 · 27/10/2016 11:15

madgingermunchkin · 27/10/2016 18:45

Thanks london am not really sure if there's anything in particular I need to be doing in the next day or two?

And what's good post run food? I've a long drive home after and I'm going to have serious munchies!

emummy · 27/10/2016 21:24

There's a nice chippy in Aboyne. Just saying....

Imnotreadyforthis · 27/10/2016 21:35

Hi everyone, ankle not good. I tried a short run today and It's now all swollen Sad

Seeing physio tomorrow but I'm not happy. HM in 3 weeks time and I doubt it'll be resolved by then! I was so looking forward to it!

Good luck mad with your race, is it this weekend?

emummy · 28/10/2016 06:55

Oh no Imnotready, sorry to hear that. Fingers crossed for some healing magic from the physio for you

Veterinari · 28/10/2016 08:34
