Hi

Has anyone recently started or just about to start? Would be great to have somewhere to check in and cheer each other on.

I've started very slowly and am about to embark on week 3. I'm spending 2 weeks on each week if that makes sense!

Look forward to anyone else joining in.

Exactly Basin

I really wasn't feeling it this morning, but I went out and 'only' managed 6 mins and then 3 mins, but you know what? 2 months ago I was struggling to do 60 seconds!!!

Think we all get sucked into looking at how bad we are/tired/fat/old whatever and instead should give ourselves some credit!

that's as much as I can cheer myself or anyone else on when I feel pants

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 22/09/2016 12:34

The 60 second runs took everything out of me when I started, Scarlett.

Did W5R1 this morning (three 5 min runs with 3 min walks in between). The 5 min runs are getting easier but I'm going to keep repeating R1 until, as you say, I think I have the energy for those few extra minutes.

ScarlettDarling · 22/09/2016 12:44

Right...think I'll give week 5 run one a go... After all three 5 min runs isn't much different to week 4 (3 mins, 5 mins,3 mins,5 mins,) is it? Maybe I'll repeat that a few times until I feel more able to up it to 8 mins.

ScarlettDarling · 22/09/2016 12:45

Thanks everyone Flowers

MrsKellyJones · 22/09/2016 13:48

I might try that tomorrow too Scarlett

Mirandawest · 22/09/2016 14:26

Any run is better than no run (or at least that's what I try and remember when I feel discouraged Smile)

BasinHaircut · 22/09/2016 14:26

GO TEAM ! Grin

Week 5 run 3 for me tonight, which is one 20 minute run I think! Eek!

ScarlettDarling · 22/09/2016 20:58

How did it go Basin ? I think that 20 minute run would kill me!

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 22/09/2016 21:09

Sticking with W5R1 for now is the way to go!

Having this thread makes a huge difference.

Wow Basin, how did it go????

DropZoneOne · 22/09/2016 22:53

W4R1 tonight. I'd found the 3 minute runs quite tricky in week 3 and thought I was going to struggle. And at first I did - the first run coincided with me hitting a hill and I thought my chest would explode! Took longer than 90 seconds to recover, partly because the app crashed and I had to start over and ff to the right part. But the 5 min run was then downhill and the rest on flat and I did it! A month ago I couldn't manage 60 seconds, so I'm so chuffed.

BasinHaircut · 23/09/2016 08:28

It went well. I'm not gonna lie and say that my legs hadn't completely turned to jelly at the end though. My app told me when I'd done 5 and then 10 minutes and then nothing until it told me to stop running! Towards the end I was starting to think I couldn't go on, but I think it would have been better if I'd had an update on time in the second 10 minutes as it was loooooong!

I reckon first and last 5 mins were tough and the middle was actually pretty good. Definately mind over matter though.

Made sure I had a good stretch out afterwards too.

Mirandawest · 23/09/2016 08:58

Well done Grin. It's a great feeling having done the 20 minute run :)

Mirandawest · 23/09/2016 08:59

Went out and did 3km with DH this morning. Tried going a bit faster (listening to Gold by Spandau Ballet helped with this) and although he was faster, we think I did it in just under 18 minutes :)

Felt very urgh afterwards but am fine now :)

MrsKellyJones · 23/09/2016 09:10

Hooray to everyone! Great work. I'm going out in a bit to try week 5 R1

MrsKellyJones · 23/09/2016 12:42

I did it! Was hard and will be redoing it a few times before I try week 5 run 2, but whooohooo Grin

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 23/09/2016 13:55

Well done everybody!

BasinHaircut · 24/09/2016 10:35

Good stuff team! Hungover today so won't run as I have usually been doing on a Saturday. Will run tomorrow instead.

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 25/09/2016 10:13

Finally did my 5-7-5 today, which is like the start of Week 5 on my app, even if it's taken months to get there - though I have more walk breaks than I'm supposed to. On my app, you're supposed to be doing 18-20 min or so by the start of Week 6, but with a 1 min break in. (The actual first 20 min run isn't until the end of Week 6 on mine). I'm going to aim for 10-10-something, for my start of Week 6, but still keep my long breaks in there - so two 10-min runs, and maybe a little jog at the end. (Then my next goal will be to move the break later and later, and eventually reduce it a bit).

So now I have to set up the runs for this version of Week 5 and program them in. I think I might just leave it as it for the first few outings, though today didn't actually feel too bad. I took paracetamol before I went, and slathered my calves and ankles with ibuprofen gel, and maybe that helped.

Heru · 25/09/2016 11:38

I have just done W4 R1, alternating 3min and 5 min intervals on my podcasts. It went better than I expected Grin. Can I ask if anyone is doing this with asthma? I am currently taking between 4 and 6 puffs of ventolin while on the run. On a non-run day I don't take any at all. Does this sound too much?

MrsKellyJones · 25/09/2016 21:43

Well done everyone. No experience of asthma (thankfully) Heru

I won't get out now till Thursday if all goes well or possibly Sunday i it all goes downhill likely

Mirandawest · 26/09/2016 10:34

Did my first run of week 9 which is 30 minutes running this morning. Went a completely different route, going into the village and coming back out again and according to map my run I did 4.92 km in 30 minutes Shock.

The other route does have traffic lights but today I didn't feel I was working too hard and covered much more. Maybe I can manage 5km in 30 min. Will try again tomortow

BasinHaircut · 26/09/2016 13:11

Wow Miranda that amazing!

I will start week 6 today. Haven't been out since my 20 min run last Thursday which is annoying as its a longer gap than I'd have liked. But will still get Week 6 nailed this week so not too big of a deal.

AnnettePrice · 27/09/2016 19:23

This week just gone its been 1 thing after another.
So glad to see you are all making progress. Smile

Basin Yay that you did the 20mins!! Hope the PF is under control.
Miranda maybe the traffic lights were getting in the way of your flow, go you, I'm sure you will have that 5k in 30 under your belt really soon.

For me, W5R3 done
I really didn't think i would do it, I've had a week off. I did my setting myself smaller goals, this time 5 mins and at the end of each I wondered how close I could get to the next 5, then just kept going like that.
New route and good info, canal footpaths are often flat!.

Mirandawest · 27/09/2016 19:37

Today's run was not so successful - had to walk some of it. Did cover about 5k although took me rather longer than 30 minutes. But much better than I could have done a couple of months ago Smile

Didn't help when 12 year old DS got back from school and casually announced that he'd done 5.6k in 25 minutes. And that lots of people were faster Grin
