Hi

Has anyone recently started or just about to start? Would be great to have somewhere to check in and cheer each other on.

I've started very slowly and am about to embark on week 3. I'm spending 2 weeks on each week if that makes sense!

Look forward to anyone else joining in.

Not at all too late, Dragons! Welcome to the thread. I'm not a natural runner either but it does get easier.

I've had a stonking cold all week though, so exercise is on hold until I feel better.

AnnettePrice · 28/09/2016 18:12

Miranda I bet you will look back on that run and work out why. I often have unexplained exhaustion (feels like walking through treakle) then I get a cold or flu and then realise I was exhausted as my body was working hard to fend off the illness.

motherof stop that agest attitude, malarkey is good and fun whatever the age Grin
Oh and here is a lady that started when she was older than you, womensrunninguk.co.uk/health/old-run-heres-start/

I have decided to grow old totally disgracefully, I'm just in training for it now Grin and yes I wear purple.

I'm running tomorrow as the wine is already opened tonight, will report back then.

BasinHaircut · 28/09/2016 19:29

Hi All

empress I've missed tonight's run as I feel like I'm coming down with something. Gutted. Really don't want to lose the momentum but don't want to make myself worse either! Am hoping a lazy evening and early night will keep it at bay.

Annette the foot is quite sore actually but thanks for asking.

Miranda you are doing great, I think you said yourself every run is a victory, or something like that.

mother welcome. I'm sure you'll do great!

Hello! Must be fate that I looked on active and saw this thread :)

Started from scratch this morning, yup, nearly killed me.

Tell me it gets easier!

Basin, hope you and the foot feel better soon. I'm thinking that even if I have to drop back a week I'm just going to focus on kicking the cold for now - think it's starting to go.

Thanks Mother. You deserve that glass!

Bastard, it does get easier! Honestly! And this thread is great for mutual support.

BasinHaircut · 29/09/2016 12:03

Thanks empress. Well I don't feel any worse today but don't feel much better either! Nothing is happening though, no cold breaking, just feel shite. Will try and run tonight if I don't feel any worse by the time I get in from work. If I feel same as yesterday though I won't.

bastard it does get easier I promise! Just keep posting here, we all seem to be spurring each other on nicely. If you feel you need to repeat runs or even weeks then just do it at your own pace.

ScarlettDarling · 29/09/2016 12:08

Basin I'm feeling ropey too. Should be running today but honestly don't feel up to it so giving it a miss Sad . As much I hate doing the runs, I really don't want to miss. Hope you feel better soon.

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 29/09/2016 12:14

I've just gone out today and did my Run 2 of my expanded Week 5 (out of 15 to do!). But my ankle tendons are hurting a lot today, not sure if it was too close to Tuesday's run or what. I'll wait til Sunday now at least. And take some paracetamol and put some ibuprofen cream on and see if that helps. Frustrating that even with orthotics and good shoes, and only increasing the time a tiny bit, it can hurt so much still.

It's the sort muscle/tendon things that give out before either my aerobic capacity, or muscle soreness in the muscles I'm suppose to be using (I've never had sore thighs or bottom, which I expected to!). It's definitely the lower leg pain that makes me long for the end of each interval to come.

I do feel a bit fitter though, taking less time to get my heart rate etc back to normal each time.

Mirandawest · 29/09/2016 12:18

Did another run this morning. Was probably about 20 minutes and am plotting ir on mapmyrun to see how far it was.

Have been managing to lose some weight over the past couple of weeks by trying not to snack so much and exercising more and so this is encouraging Smile

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 29/09/2016 12:28

That's good! I've been trying to lose a bit, but have actually put a couple of pounds on, or stayed the same, depends when I measure! I think it's probably because the amount of running doesn't really burn much yet, it's mostly down to what I eat. though I thought I was doing better with that, too. Depressing. Maybe I will notice a changed shape before any pounds lost.

Mirandawest · 29/09/2016 12:45

It wasn't until I started putting what I was eating into my fitness pal that I realised how much I was snacking and how drinks add the calories very easily. I'd found a few pounds had crept on and would prefer them to go away again Grin

BasinHaircut · 29/09/2016 16:11

Thanks scarlett, you too.

I'm actually feeling a bit better right now so will go out for a run tonight. It's 2 X 10mins with 3min walk in between for my week 6 run 2.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 29/09/2016 16:53

Good luck, basin!

BastardGoDarkly · 29/09/2016 16:59

Thanks everyone! You're all doing so well! The thought of running 3 20 minutes fills me with doubt ATM but I'm sure my confidence will grow Hmm

I can feel it in my legs today!? I was only running for 60 seconds at a time! God, I'm so unfit!

I've made my 10,000 steps today though, and eatings going well, I've got the body of a darts player, I'm not kidding! Hoping to be able to buy new clothes for Christmas :)

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 29/09/2016 17:07

Bastard, through most of W1R1 I was puffing like a train & by the time I finished I was scarlet & boiling. I walk six miles most days & do Zumba so I was astonished at just how hard this was!

I am still doubtful about running 3x20 mins but I feel bloody proud right now of being able to run 3x5 mins - there was a time when even that felt impossible!

You're doing so well too. Star

BastardGoDarkly · 29/09/2016 17:22

Thanks Empress this threads going to keep me going I can tell :)

Hi, just checking in. Been a bit mad here but hoping to get out tomorrow afternoon for another week 5 run 1.

Well done for everyone going out - even week one is an achievement.

BasinHaircut · 29/09/2016 19:53

empress thanks!

Run completed! Got a niggle in the back of my leg which I'm hoping a good stretch out will help.

Next run is 25mins non stop! Shock

Bb90 · 29/09/2016 19:57

App downloaded - aim to start Monday, very unfit but fingers crossed!! Is there a limit on how many times you can repeat a session? Have a feeling I may be doing that a lot Blush

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 29/09/2016 20:00

no you can do them all as much as you like. I've taken over a month for each 'week', and added in all sorts of in-between length runs, as I found the jump from one week to the next too much, particularly after week 2.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 29/09/2016 20:05

Bb, you'll be in good company! Plenty of us do repeats, add in interval weeks where you do a bit more than the last week but you're not quite ready for the next one.... whatever works for you.

Basin you're doing brilliantly - just be nice to your foot.

Good luck, Kelly. I'm planning to do W5R1 three times next week (maybe four) before I move on to W5R2.

BasinHaircut · 29/09/2016 20:33

Weirdly my foot doesn't bother me when I'm running. My running shoes must be quite supportive. It is just sore in general which to be honest I've just gotten used to!
