Hi

Has anyone recently started or just about to start? Would be great to have somewhere to check in and cheer each other on.

I've started very slowly and am about to embark on week 3. I'm spending 2 weeks on each week if that makes sense!

Look forward to anyone else joining in.

Good luck Biking. Back in London now so I'm off to the gym tomorrow.

halfgirlhalfturnip · 28/12/2016 19:02

I just did W1R1 and really hope to still be on this thread chatting and picking up tips.
I've never been a runner but want to try it for physical and mental health.
Going for fitted trainers tomorrow . Managed it slowly today but was silently pleading for the bing to signify end of the minute Hmm

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 28/12/2016 19:17

Welcome to the thread, Turnip!

I can still remember the hell of W1R1, I felt like a roast tomato when I'd finished.

Biking007 · 29/12/2016 09:30

Hi turnip I've never been a runner before either Smile it's taken me since sept to Nov to get to the point where I now feel I can say "I'm going for a run" Grin
I was determined last night I was going out this morning but I hadn't bargained on de-icing the car -2c brrr but I had my quickest 5k this morning despite fog rolling in at 3k mark and freezing my thighs Shock nice to be sat at work now knowing I've done my exercise for the day Grin

shortaris1 · 29/12/2016 11:26

Morning, may I join. I've read through the thread and found it really inspirational.

Started Couch to 5K yesterday and got new shoes for tomorrow's run. I'm the heaviest Ive been in my life so going to combine running with weights and start eating more along high fat low carb lines.

Biking007 · 29/12/2016 21:13

Welcome shortaris hope your first run goes well.

Biking007 · 29/12/2016 21:16

I tried in vane to eat healthier today as I was at work but I've got so used to Nibbling over Xmas I was hungry and greggs is opposite my office Blush and a big sticky bun joined my arvo cuppaT Sad I will try again tom to kick the sugar cravings!

Archduke · 30/12/2016 23:27

Hi all, and welcome all newbies, it does get easier you know. The first weeks are the absolute pits, but keep going it's so worth it.

I've just done my first Parkrun for 2 weeks after being off games with a stuffed back. I combined it with W6R2 (2 weeks late) and MANAGED TO RUN for 25mins NON STOP! I am beyond thrilled with myself. My back held up fine - I now have orthotics in my shoes (go me) which seem to be helping.

Well done Biking on running in -2 degrees, that is so impressive. I bet you felt amazing afterwards. I know exactly what you mean about the snacking thing. I have let my eating go to shit over the past week me and everyone else in the world and really need to have a fast day or just stop stuffing myself. I'm hoping that running again will click my brain back into gear.

shortaris1 · 31/12/2016 00:44

Thanks Biking and Arch. Did day 2 today!

Biking007 · 31/12/2016 10:00

That's great arch I know how hard it is running nursing a dodgy back. It's the one thing which put me off trying running the last couple yrs but I'm doing core challenge too at moment in hope it will support my back more as I up the running.

Well done shortaris that's great keep it going and the weeks will fly by Smile

I managed my first 5.5k this morning Smile was tough going as I tried a different road route which meant last 2k slightly uphill. Not much but enough that I was a bit slower and puffing bit more. I'm going to try add 0.5k a week if my body holds up.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 31/12/2016 10:18

Welcome to the thread, shortaris! Completing the first run is a big step & completing the first week will be a huge one!

Arch, 25 mins without stopping???? GO YOU! That's brilliant! And great that your back's feeling better.

Oh God, snacking... I have a box of chocolate truffles and I had to shut them in a cupboard yesterday to stop myself going through the lot in one go.

Archduke · 02/01/2017 00:06

Hi all, Happy New Year to you all!

I've just done W6R3 - 22min non-stop; as per normal, the first 5 mins were tough but then I just huffed and puffed my way along. Now I feel Grrrrrrreaaat!

Off to the beach today aiming to do a long walk with dogs and kids and friends.

Here's to a happy and healthy 2017

Biking007 · 02/01/2017 18:15

Archduke · 02/01/2017 22:22

Biking that is BRILLIANT! So well done!

Sub 33 mins is officially AMAZEBALLS. Tremendous work. Star Star Star Star Star Star

waitingforsomething · 03/01/2017 12:05

Eek just managed Week 5 workout 3 - 20mins non stop run. Felt hard around the 12 minute mark but got through it and can't believe it! I ran 2.6 miles in this time.

Congratulations Biking and Archduke

Biking007 · 03/01/2017 17:33

Thanks arch my body was hurting in difference places last night though! Grin
That's brill waiting I always struggle at the 12-15min mark it's like my body warms up and goes through treacle but if u plod through it, it does get easier again.

Archduke · 04/01/2017 07:09

W7R1 done.

I left it a bit late and didn't get out util about 10am when it had got quite hot. I'm a bit gutted as I was managing fine until the last 5 mins which were up hill. I paused the app and walked for a min or two up the steepest bit and then ran the last bit. Am a bit disappointed with myself - it was a new route and more hilly than my normal one.

Well done waiting these first longer runs aren't easy but I've been surprised at what I can actually do (today excepted) whereas only a few short weeks ago I couldn't run for toffee.

shortaris1 · 04/01/2017 07:22

WK1 done on the 2nd Jan.

Hadn't thought about timings but now its dark before and after work I don't fancy the park as I'm a bit scared of dogs [ blush] so might run along the river. What does everyone do about the dark? Am I being a wuss?! I could use the treadmill but I hate it!

ScarlettDarling · 04/01/2017 19:53

Finallly did 5k! Halle-bloody-lujan!! Thought I'd never do It! Took just over 35 mins and I did cheat and walk for a minute at the 30 min mark, but then I finished with a run limp ! Yeah! Grin

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 04/01/2017 19:54

YAY SCARLETT!!!!

Brilliant time too!

ScarlettDarling · 04/01/2017 19:54

Archduke I'm guessing you aren't in the UK if it was too hot to run by 10.30?! It was 3 degrees when I went for my run today, brrrrrr!

ScarlettDarling · 04/01/2017 19:55

Ah, thanks Empress , how're you getting on?

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 04/01/2017 20:59

Starting to work on getting my time down! With the icy pavements ATM I'm doing most of it on the treadmill.

Feel free to join us on www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/2774730-Crossing-the-bridge-from-5-to-10K when & if you're up for it.

Biking007 · 04/01/2017 22:08

Another 5.5k tonight in the dark was a faster run despite a couple of 30secs pauses for shoelace & jacket taking off. The faster runs are making my legs hurt again thoughGrin next goal is 6k on sat after 2d Off.

Well done scarlett that's awesome!! Smile

shortaris I prefer running in the dark but I have a safe place to run.

shortaris1 · 04/01/2017 23:00

Okay Biking just wondering what you all did. I did run in the dark tonight and it was fine. WK 2 Run 1 done tonight.
