Well done all, runners and volunteers!

I know several volunteers who don't run, the more the merrier.

Had a good time at Queens - as I arrived, Tim Page came out the door and greeted me and Minnie by name!

Tim's blog

Tim is a cancer survivor who has had 4 run-ins with lymphoma. He only recently started parkrunning, and is planning to do all the NI ones before September, a significant anniversary for him. We posed for a few photos together, and agreed that each parkrun has its own little personality and quirks, but the over-riding common feature is about the support and welcome. It's about much more than "just" running.

My run went OK - a good fast first lap, but my pace ebbed away in the second one, and I didn't quite manage a PB. But the best bit was cheering Tim in the finish stretch, giving him a hug and a "well done", to which he replied "It's good to be alive...."

cinnamongreyhound · 07/05/2016 19:43

Definitely GeoffrysGoat, we have some supporters turned volunteers.

parkrun suggest for 3 per year sweetvparsley but never push anyone to volunteer if hey don't want to, after all then it isn't volunteering Wink. We have a regular volunteer who runs very occasionally he's 81. I tend to volunteer 1in 5/6 runs depending on who else we have around RD but I am also ED so do things behind the scenes all the time. It depends on your parkrun's size and how many you need each week. I think at ours with the jobs we need doing and Average number of runners, everyone needs to volunteer 9 times a year to make it fair, if you look at it that way.

I have been RD with all three of mine JoanFerguson.

Well done on the PB's!

Lovely to hear from you Sirzy

Slowish one from me today, dog stops, warm and too much in my brain!

I marshaled with DS today. He was the most grumpy mashal ever. I have told him he will marshal again. He had a hi vis and he high fived a few people but grudgingly.

One of our club's runners got a pb even though she had a toilet stop. Grin

Well done swampy and everyone else.

Blathers someone has posted a pic of his lovely tshirt so looks like they are arriving safely.

My two tend to be better marshalling at the juniors than the main parkrun. DS was talking to DH after he finished today and that's distracting when you're timekeeping, so he came to bother me instead. Tailrunning is the other one I've done with the children.

Some great times from everyone. DD and I were doing well for the first 3k then all energy left us, it's a horrible hilly bit that goes on forever. I'd have been pleased with our time last year so wasn't too bad I guess. Not sure I'm not coming down with something.

We had a beautiful morning for the juniors today and a record turnout I think. Brilliant atmosphere. The boy who normally finishes first is great, thanks all the marshals, told DS well done as they passed, so positive.

Blatherskite · 09/05/2016 12:50

They are good aren't they Halle. I have pinched myself one Wink

Taking the plunge and am RD again on Saturday. First time in ages!

swampytiggaa · 09/05/2016 19:51

Oooh! Just read our run report thingy and we have runners from Little Stoke coming on Saturday to join us!

cinnamongreyhound · 10/05/2016 09:38

Dilemma for dh this Saturday Hmm. Ds1 has a hospital appointment at 10.50 so I said I can run at home and be back to shower and leave but he has to get the kids ready and fed. Or I run in the town where the hospital is I get kids ready but we have to leave home by 8.15, he's thinking!

Has he come to a conclusion cinnamon? So sorry he's being less than helpful, it's so little time a week.

cinnamongreyhound · 12/05/2016 13:15

No decision so far! I may not run at all as I don't want the stress on top of going to hospital. It's nothing serious just to have a look at his foreskin but I worry for him anyway.

Poor DS cinnamon.
And how is DS3 these days? He must have had his birthday?

I'm going to decide whether to run tomorrow til the morning, all the breast feeding and co sleeping is leaving my back a bit twisted up.

cinnamongreyhound · 13/05/2016 14:52

He's good thank you, he's 13months!!! He is now on 6 monthly hospital visits and still his daily antibiotics. So far his good kidney seems to be doing its job and he's developing normally in every other way. He's pretty tiny, only 9kg and just in 9-12m clothes! How's yours? Are you running alone or with a buggy?

Slow and painful parkrun this morning. My plantar thingy is back again. I ran with 2 friends - we ran walked and got round. Time was 39.15 which I am pleased with under the circumstances.

I have a bottle of water in the freezer so I can roll it under my foot later x

Hope everyone had a good morning!

GeoffreysGoat · 14/05/2016 12:38

Ouch swampy dh had that a few years ago, not fun at all. Physio and steroid injections helped.

40:08 for ds1 this morning

swampytiggaa · 14/05/2016 13:31

Currently rolling a rolling pin under my feet as suggested by a nice man on YouTube :)

MyBlackCat · 14/05/2016 13:47

Another slow parkrun from me, number 45 Smile I'm on t-shirt countdown.

cinnamongreyhound · 14/05/2016 17:13

Ran at home today, did a fab time but started late again! So official time was 29:29, actual time was 27:28 which is close to my fastest since ds3.

Just ran my first park run today, decided on a whim last night to give it ago, took me 34 minutes which I am super pleased with as my aim was to get round the course before everyone left. All the volunteers were so friendly and it was so motivating having them smile and clap. Can't what for next week!

MelanieCheeks · 14/05/2016 19:11

Welcome aboard, Raisingirls!

I went to beautiful Waterworks today, Ireland's oldest. And met a proper green 250 T shirt wearer! He started parkrunning cos his children were going to the School of Music on Saturday mornings, and he needed a useful way to kill some time.

Glorious sunshine we had - too warm for Minnie. She struggled on the hills, and I didn't have her usual towing power. I knew my last time here had been 26 something, and when I crossed the line this morning in 26.15 I worried that I was a few seconds off a PB. I was.....the right way! Yay!

gruber · 14/05/2016 19:40

Oh congratulations Melanie, that's always nice when that happens!

I finally got to run (going away camping means I can't do Parkrun on Sat am...) and managed a respectable 34.30 which considering I haven't run properly for a few weeks isn't bad. Aiming to tourist at Brockenhurst next week - any tips or good advice for the course?

chutneypig · 14/05/2016 20:50

I think Geoffrey can help there gruber. Well done with that time too.

And very well done Melanie and Minnie.

Welcome RaisinGirls and great time too.

So pleased you got out cinnamon and even more pleased to hear such a good time.

Poor you swampy hope the ice helps.

It all counts MyBlackCat Grin

Did you get there thursday?

Great time from DS Geoffrey he's going great guns.

No run for me today, double whammy of taking the DC to their first kids OCR and I'm doing a 10k tomorrow.

karatekimmi · 14/05/2016 22:11

parkrun with the double pushchair. Our parkrun (Telford) now gets over 400 and it has been making it really hard to run comfortably - it's over a mile before their is enough space for me!! I always start at the back - but I think I need to start further forward!

chutneypig · 15/05/2016 06:28

That must be very frustrating with the buggy karatekimmi. Our home run is up to similar levels now which is great in so many respects but does make it a bit more of a challenge with the kids. DS has taken a tumble in the past in the crush. It's not so bad for me and DD as we're not near the front but for those of a faster persuasion it's difficult. We've largely moved to a less busy run nearby. It's much less stressful. Although it's gaining in popularly I can't see it getting up to those levels as its a challenging course plus the pathways are wider all the way round.

GeoffreysGoat · 15/05/2016 08:38

Gruber it's back at the college now, so 4 laps of a playing field :) if you pop back on winter you get the full off road New Forest experience. I'm hoping to see a friend for coffee after so might come and cheer you all on

GeoffreysGoat · 15/05/2016 08:39

chutney apparently apart from a shoelaces incident he ran the entire thing! Oh for the energy of a small child, eh?!
