This is a continuation of the parkrunning thread where are all are welcome to chat about tourism, tee-shirts, PBs and everything else parkrun (and sometimes non-parkrun) related.

If you have been lurking on a previous thread now is the time to come out and say hello Grin. Like parkrun we're very inclusive and always welcoming to new starters Smile. And we love hearing about new courses we haven't been to Smile

Well done ParkrunConvert!

Glad you're feeling good ThursdayLastweek, I think this is the good bit. You're not feeling sick, you feel baby moving so you know it's ok and you're not too heavy or tired yet Smile

FiftyNineOhEight · 18/11/2015 10:38

Welcome ParkrunConvert glad you are enjoying it Smile

Thursday - Saturday was really wet here too. I had a fun afternoon watching DS play hockey - fortunately they cut it short after 30 minutes as it was such a mud-bath. I managed to stay pretty dry except for my elbow Hmm I think it was from holding the umbrella.

I have waterproof trousers from Aldi which I use for riding my bike in the wet - they are quite generously sized, I can tuck my skirt and the bottom half of my coat into the waistband. I look like the michelinwoman, but am past caring - fortunately I have been coming and going in the dark so nobody really sees me Grin.

Cinners how is your tummy/sternum now?

Well done TRiJo Smile

Hi everyone
well done 59!!!

welcome convert, well done on running all the way, doesn't it feel great? Don't worry about being a slow jog, it just means that every week as you get faster you will get a pb!

Talking of which, new pb of 37:34 last saturday, which is 33 seconds off my last pb, I was very pleased, I knew I was doing well, and my finishing sprint was quite a long one!

ds came too, he is ridiculously pleased that he can run 5km and do it faster than me. So, his second parkrun, he was full of confidence and came in at 33:30, so one and a half minutes off his first time, and he twisted my arm into getting him some running trainers as he has been running in football astros. He is now determined to beat his dad, but dhs pb is 25:07, so he has quite a way to go.

Was rotten weather, rain in the face, soaking wet etc, felt very sorry for the marshalls who all looked frozen. My friend was the tail runner and was running his 100, so we all waiting (in the rain) and cheered him in.

I think I will volunteer this week, and they seem to be struggling for 40 pacers at the moment, so if I offer to do that then I still get to count it as a run! (11 down, 39 to go, 1 year and 3 months to do it in...)

sweetvparsley · 18/11/2015 13:59

I've just looked at the weather forecast for Saturday 9am and it says only 2 degrees! I'm already planning what I will need to wear and am trying to remember where I left my hat and gloves.I think I might have to resort to my merino walking socks as well.

steppemum · 18/11/2015 14:28

are you marshaling parsley or running?

I started running in the spring, so I haven't run in cold weather yet, haven't got anything to wear!

MelanieCheeks · 18/11/2015 14:33

If running - light gloves that can be whipped off once I get going.
If volunteering - fingerless woollie gloves.

sweetvparsley · 18/11/2015 15:35

I'm running this week - cold weather running is OK once you've got going but I find I need to warm up in my house before I venture out otherwise my calves seize up.

One time when I did a bit of tourism in the winter and had a bit of a drive to get there, I wrapped my legs in a blanket that I'd warmed on the radiator - a bit like the Formula 1 guys do with the spare tyres they put on!

ThursdayLastWeek · 18/11/2015 16:56

If it's really cold (not that often in Cornwall) I like to wear full length trousers, a running 'jumper' (in high vis due to dreary weather, though not so important for parkrun) and a buff.

I heat up really really quickly when running nd would rather be cold to start, when comfortabke when running than have to be peeling off layers as I go.

Last week I wore capris and my 50 tee and I was cold!

I'm volunteering this week - I told DH I'd take DS with me, so I expect to just be marshalling somewhere not too off road.

ThursdayLastWeek · 18/11/2015 16:58

Oh yes and there's rumours of a local running club working towards setting up a new parkrun in the spring - at another NT garden that I visit and run around often.

It'll probably get going just as I'm taken out of the mix for a while, but it's still exciting. I love running there.

cinnamongreyhound · 18/11/2015 17:04

Yay for new parkruns ThursdayLastWeek!

I am back to normal thanks FiftyNineOhEight, was all good by my run Monday evening.

I only wear long sleeves as it gets colder, if it goes below zero then I resort to full length leggings and a light jacket that I can tie around my waist. Much rather be cold before than too hot during!

TriJo · 18/11/2015 17:45

Agree with Cinnamon - I'm still running in shorts these days, though that's partly because I'm down to one pair of shorts and one pair of capris that fit! Much rather be a bit chilly at the start than overheat though.

MyBlackCat · 18/11/2015 19:34

I ran in hat, gloves and long leggings last Saturday Shock I'm not sure where else I can go! I do have a running jacket that I wear when it's really cold, may have to bring that out. I don't mind getting hot whilst running and I hate feeling really cold.

reallyneedmoresleep · 19/11/2015 00:02

Hello parkrunners! I've done about 15 parkruns and feel it's really time I did a bit of volunteering so have offered to marshall this Saturday. I hope I don't feel too jealous of the runners....

sweetvparsley · 19/11/2015 12:49

reallyneedmoresleep Wrap up warmly with good stout shoes and you'll be fine. Its great fun. Just don't assume the lead runner will know where to go. As we found out a few weeks ago, even with good signage they don't always follow, so be prepared to point and yell instruction if necessary.

cinnamongreyhound · 19/11/2015 21:18

What is it with the weekly newsletter? Are they constantly trying to make us cry?

sweetvparsley · 19/11/2015 22:13

I've just noticed that the Parkrun Christmas Compendium is up an running.

I'm not sure if I will manage 2 days in a row but I guess no one will mind too much if I walk some of it.

TriJo · 19/11/2015 23:41

Hmm, New Years Day run at my local one - could be a nice way to sign off running until after my little man arrives - will be 28+5 then.

steppemum · 20/11/2015 11:39

our New Years day run is at 8:30 am Shock

MyBlackCat · 20/11/2015 12:01

That's early steppe Shock mine is a 10:30 start and I will be running on my birthday Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 20/11/2015 17:06

Probably so people can do a double Steppemum? Our closest neighbour is at 9 so we went for 10.30 so people can do both. On New Year's Day they can start any time between 8.30 and 10.30 and runners are allowed to register two runs.

FiftyNineOhEight · 20/11/2015 19:19

Oh goody, I have run on NYD the last two years. Two years ago I just did one, last year DS1 and I did a double (along with Blathers and some of her mates).

Well done to steppeboy

Welcome reallyneedmoresleep Smile

Thanks for the warning cinners, I have seen it is in my inbox but haven't read it yet.

Temperature has really dropped here, it will be a chilly one tomorrow!

steppemum · 20/11/2015 20:50

yes, chippenham is our closest neighbour and they have theirs at 10:30.

I cannot for the life of me imagine how you do 5km, then get in a car, drive for 20 minutes, get out and start again. Grin

I have done 10 km in training, but in one go.

FiftyNineOhEight · 20/11/2015 21:37

By the time you get to the second one, you forget that you have already run the first one Smile

ThursdayLastWeek · 20/11/2015 21:42

No Xmas or NYD parkrun here - though I'm not surprised. There's an incredibly popular NYD run up the highest point in Cornwall on Bodmin Moor, to which all our RDs are going!

I'm taking DS (2.7) volunteering with me tomorrow. Basically I'm marshalling and plying him with snacks for an hour Smile

steppemum · 20/11/2015 23:01

59, I await the day when I can forget I have run 5 k!!
