This is a continuation of the parkrunning thread where are all are welcome to chat about tourism, tee-shirts, PBs and everything else parkrun (and sometimes non-parkrun) related.

If you have been lurking on a previous thread now is the time to come out and say hello Grin. Like parkrun we're very inclusive and always welcoming to new starters Smile. And we love hearing about new courses we haven't been to Smile

I forgot that I have offered to help set up the junior parkrun. I am waiting to hear what needs to be done.

FiftyNineOhEight · 13/11/2015 06:59

My DH doesn't notice cinners - whether I run or volunteer, or I'm home or away, he just works on the principle that I'm out all Saturday morning Grin. That's quite often when he goes out for his weekly run as well, so half the time he doesn't know what time I've come home.

megletthesecond · 13/11/2015 08:54

fifty yep, I've gone all wobbly after reading the newsletter Smile.

MelanieCheeks · 13/11/2015 15:28

Sniffing and blubby at this week's newsletter too.

TriJo · 13/11/2015 16:00

4th anniversary at one of my local ones this weekend, that means pacers and cake :) Looking forward to dragging my 22 week bump around in the morning!

ThursdayLastWeek · 13/11/2015 16:40

My DH works on the sane assumption 5908 Grin

I'm looking forward to squeezing my (not inconsiderable) 23 week bump into my 50 tee shirt!!

ThursdayLastWeek · 13/11/2015 16:41

Btw I love seei g you on this thread and the grads one too Tri Smile

Blatherskite · 13/11/2015 17:58

Anybody else have a 'D'H who gets grumpy at the mere mention of parkrun?

Missing it tomorrow as I'm running race HQ at the Dirt Half Marathon. Just 1000 runners to look after

standingonlego · 13/11/2015 18:22

blathers I running the dirt half tomorrow, do not pack up and go home until I am back safely. My first HM since I did the great North 10 years ago....I may be some time...

Blatherskite · 13/11/2015 18:45

lego, last year that were a lady doing something under 15 minute miles and we not only kept the finish open for her, the back marker and a couple of marshals ran in with her and we got the guys from ResultsBase to find out her name for us using her race number and cheered her in by name!

You won't be left behind Grin

Just promise to come and find me before or afterwards to say hi

Blatherskite · 13/11/2015 19:54

lego One of the guys who's been makring out the Dirt Half course just posted this. Thought it might be helpful.

"Dirt Half course marked out.
Course very good this year, best I've ever seen it over the past 5 years.
Normal trainers will be fine as 9 miles are along the canal and trail shoes are not needed and unless it rains all night you won't gain much benefit from trail shoes
The hill at mile 6.3 has a few muddy spots that can be avoided by running wide.
The woods have 2 areas that are soft under foot but again you can run wide to stay clean lol
Please watch the ROOTS
I went flying as usual frown emoticon
Marked as many. As possible but there are a lot that will leave you diving like Ashley Young wink emoticon
Across to the the normally FLOODED FiELDS ??
Well they ARE NOT smile emoticon
This year the Farmer has new fencing up which makes following the best line easier.
WARNING at mile 10 - 200 yds into the fields there is a gate to negotiate before you reach the first bridge
GOOD LUCK as the tractor has carved this up so bad you cannot stay clean so expect MUD & MORE MUD as it's impossible to get thru to the bridge so just go thru the centre to save time."

I feel the need to add (sic) Wink

Good luck tomorrow

FiftyNineOhEight · 13/11/2015 20:52

Sounds fab Blathers Smile hope it goes well lego

I have mini-doughnuts for the masses tomorrow, and a bottle of bucks fizz for my coffee club friends Smile. There was talk of prosecco, but since most of drive or cycle to and from parkrun I thought I'd better go for something a little weaker for 10 am Grin. One of my friends texted to say she had bought me a balloon for tomorrow but it had blown away in the high winds this afternoon!

cinnamongreyhound · 13/11/2015 22:26

Mine is fine because they all get to spend the morning in their jarmies but if ds3 isn't as happy as he might be I get a frosty welcome when I get home Blatherskite, hope the race goes well!

cinnamongreyhound · 14/11/2015 11:14

What a nightmare parkrun! I had a horrible pain in my sternum so struggled to breathe, walked twice but finished. Then heard once I'd finished that one of our regular dogs bit a little boy Sad the rd for the day is dealing with it but no doubt I'll be contacted during the week about it! Hope everyone else's parkrun was better!

FiftyNineOhEight · 14/11/2015 11:50

Damp and slow here. Lots of wet leaves on the path and didn't want to slip. Cakes and bucks fizz went down a treat Smile.

Sorry about your painful sternum Cinners, hope you are feeling better now Flowers

MyBlackCat · 14/11/2015 11:53

Oh no cinnamon hope you are feeling better and the little boy is ok.

I had a good parkrun this morning, the hat and gloves came out cos I'm a wimp but there was very little wind. Waiting for official result but according to my watch it is my third quickest time on that course and I've got within a minute of my ridiculous PB GrinI also had to stop to tie my shoe lace at one point so lost a few seconds there. Looking forward to next Saturday already Smile

sweetvparsley · 14/11/2015 12:41

That's sad news about the dog and the little boy cinnamon hope the bite wasn't too serious and that it won't have any implications for the dog.

I've never heard of your sternum problem before. Had you done some unusual movement which could have caused it?

My run was uneventful today. The threatened rain didn't start until well after I got home. We had a lovely big crowd today because a huge group of around 60 people have recently finished a C25 programme so they were "graduating".

chutneypig · 14/11/2015 13:10

Oh dear cinnamon, hope everything's OK with the little boy.

Glad you enjoyed the resfreshments FiftyNine nice photo Grin

Second over my PB today, I haven't been within a minute of it since August. But to get so close.... Ah well. I snuck in under 200 so I'm consoling myself with that.

Felt good so I'm with MyBlackCat and thinking about next week. I've got a 10k on the Sunday but I'm very tempted to run parkrun too. I'll see how I feel tomorrow. I don't normally put in the miles most of you do!

MelanieCheeks · 14/11/2015 15:20

We had our latest couch to 5k group graduation run today, which took us to 1 person off our attendance record. The loveliest bit was seeing my fellow running club mates taking a cluster each and running in with them. Server problems though, so no official results yet.

Volunteering next week, must get a high viz for cracker the squirrel. I'm guessing Barbie doll sized?

cinnamongreyhound · 14/11/2015 17:32

Server probs everywhere MelanieCheeks!

After further investigation it seems to be my abdominal muscles sweetvparsley, it's ok while I'm sitting but as soon as I try walking fast I'm struggling to breathe Sad. I don't know if the family will take it any further, we have had advice from parkrun on the matter. Hope the owner and the boy will come back though.

Well done FiftyNineOhEight!!! I've got 14 to go!

TriJo · 15/11/2015 09:21

Really enjoyed mine yesterday - despite pouring rain I dragged my bump around 35 seconds faster than two weeks ago! Almost caught the 27 minute pacer too who had drifted a little off schedule. The chocolate brownie at the end was lovely too :)

ParkrunConvert · 15/11/2015 16:53

Hello, can I just say, I bloody LOVE parkrun! I need to share some joy. Yesterday was my 4th run, and I actually ran the whole 5k for the first time! Well it was a slow jog, but I didn't walk, or feel sick much or have spots in my vision at the end like I did the first time! I feel myself getting fitter every week, and everyone is really friendly. I just love it. Yay for parkrun!

MelanieCheeks · 15/11/2015 17:19

Well done convert!

ThursdayLastWeek · 16/11/2015 07:51

5909!!! Yayayayayayay! Well done!

And welcome convert! The not feeling sick bit is quite an achievement!

I finally wore my 50'tee on my 64th parkrun huzzah! I felt really good this weekend too, ran much more than I did the previous week - and came in a couple of minutes quicker.
The weather was revolting though.

Just going to look into getting some waterproof trousers as Saturday mornings seem to be the worst weather all week at the the mo, and I'm going g to be doing a lot more volunteering in the near future!

chutneypig · 16/11/2015 18:12

Glad you had a good run Thursday but some waterproofs definitely sound like a good plan if you're going to be standing around a lot. I guess most of the volunteer posts are pretty exposed.

Welcome convert. It took me to run 18 not to walk at all so you're way ahead of me Grin.

Very impressive TriJo!

Looking forward to seeing Cracker in a volunteer get up Melanie!
