So, we seem to have filled up the 4th thread. Anyone want to join me here?

Boozena, do you have a sports direct near you? I got a Karrimor top and running tights for about £10 each.

thewavesofthesea · 12/03/2016 10:16

Survived my first Park Run! Ran for the first 20mins before stopping and walking for a bit. Will go next week I think. No official time yet but I think it was around 37 mins. Better than I thought!!

Rinceoir · 12/03/2016 10:28

Well done wave! That's a great achievement!

Kilmeny · 13/03/2016 10:09

After some feet help please! I finished week 6 on Friday and did the 25 minute (more like 23) minute run :) But the soles of my feet are killing me to the point I've had to put ibuprofen gel on them to sleep. I have decent running trainers and haven't had this problem until now. I'm overweight and know this is making it harder to run (trying to lose some). I want to go out again tomorrow but owwww my feet! I run on pavements as the grass is sodden here.

NattyGolfJerkin · 13/03/2016 11:13

Morning all on this glorious Sunday morning. The sun inspired me to restart couch to 5k (though I do the 10k one every couple of years). W1 D1 done. Felt good.

thewavesofthesea · 13/03/2016 12:37

Kilmeny, does it sound like this? If so, this leaflet has advice about how to manage it. patient.info/health/heel-and-foot-pain-plantar-fasciitis

Rinceoir · 13/03/2016 15:46

Welcome Natty! I've just done w3r1, decided to go an different way to usual forgetting how steep the hill are around here. So it was tough but finished it! My pacer app tells me I covered less distance than the other days so I can must have been really slow but it was all uphill.

NattyGolfJerkin · 13/03/2016 17:32

Thanks rince

Right everyone ..... I need some opinions please! I started C25K in the first week of Jan after my friend wanted to run a 5k and was after some support. Me and another friend signed up with her (it's an ongoing joke that I am about as in fit as they come). So I downloaded the app and have stuck to it rigidly. I have now finished GrinGrinGrin and can (slowly) run a 5k. I have done 4 x 5.4k runs in the past 8 days, and whilst I still find it hard and slow (5.4k takes me JUST under 40 mins), I have achieved my objective and am really proud of myself Blush my two friends don't feel ready for the 5k which is on Sunday. So the question is ..... Do I do it alone or don't I?! I suppose I am frightened of doing it really, what if I am last, I am so slow. And the whole point of signing up was to make me do the runs and I have done it, so don't really need to do the run desperately tries to justify not doing it

2012860363 · 14/03/2016 14:16

Well done Wave! The park run is a massive achievement Star

PhilMckrakin · 14/03/2016 14:29

2012860363 do the run. I am in the same boat as you. Have just finished week 9 and can run 5k. I did a 5k event a few years ago and I was really nervous about it but it was the best feeling ever at the end. It doesn't matter if you're last , nobody will know or care, you probably won't be anyway and even if you are it is totally worth it. Good luck Grin

In fact I, very been too scared to sign up for another one myself but I might have just talked myself into it Blush

JellyJ · 14/03/2016 15:04

Those of you who are measuring your distance, how are you doing this? I've tried Strava but it doesn't seem to work - either I'm doing something wrong or it won't run while c25k is running. Any advice anyone?

PhilMckrakin · 14/03/2016 15:07

I use run double app JellyJ it uses GPS to track your distance and gives you time intervals as well.

NattyGolfJerkin · 14/03/2016 16:23

Jelly, my 10k app works out distance using GPS.

KeepOnPlodding · 14/03/2016 16:48

2012860363 - Please don't give up. 40mins isn't slow and the only person you are racing is yourself. So what if you are last? You've still done more than those that didn't show up!

After another week with not a lot of plodding I completed W8R2 and did another 28mins of running plus warm up/cool down which I can just about stretch to 5km. I've submitted my very slow 5k in a virtual race so now waiting for my first medal to arrive! Grin

In a fit of optimism I've entered another couple of virtual races to keep me going with the sole intention of collecting more medals!

thewavesofthesea · 14/03/2016 18:12

What are virtual races? That sounds interesting!

Have been very achy today and yesterday, so went for another run which helped initially but now I'm achy again! Did W7R1. Felt fine. Easy compared to the 5k!

And 40 mins is not slow at all! I did mine in 36mins, and I was not the slowest by a long stretch!

Kilmeny · 14/03/2016 19:14

Thewavesofthesea, I'm not sure if it is
plantar fasciitis or not, my heels aren't too bad but the front part of my foot (underneath) is still throbbing with pain. I haven't run since Friday and I'm gutted! Should have started week 7 today but even walking is hurting.

Well done to everyone sticking with it and doing races etc. It's such an amazing feeling.

KeepOnPlodding · 14/03/2016 19:17

Waves Here is the link:

http://www.virtualrunneruk.com

You choose a race and pay an entry fee - a donation goes to charity. You then complete the distance within the timeframe and email back evidence of your time. They put the results online and you get your medal sent to you.

From what I can tell there are all sorts of people doing it - 5k times seem to vary from 25mins (Shock) to over an hour.

I am going to attempt a 10k in May as my next challenge and there is also a 90min challenge in June to celebrate the Queen's birthday that you can run, walk or plod that looks interesting.

2012860363 · 14/03/2016 20:13

Thanks everyone for the vote of confidence Smile the thought of it is still very scary!! I will see how my next two runs are and decide then still not committing Blush
Well done all on the running, the feeling when you have finished a run is so good that it's worth the hard bit!

Stellar67 · 14/03/2016 20:42

Go for it! I did one before I finished and it took my fear away.
Well done all. I've been resting up and stretching and feel ready to try a tentative 10-15 minutes tomorrow to see what my knee says. And I will stop if it hurts. Not giving up!

JellyJ · 14/03/2016 22:20

Thank you Phil and Natty, I will look at those.

KeepOnPlodding · 14/03/2016 22:49

Good luck tomorrow Stellar. Fingers crossed.

Boozena · 15/03/2016 11:48

I do have a sportsdirect cool I'll check it out- it's just a bit of an arse to get to so was leaving at as a last resort!
W3r3 done today and I struggled Sad worrying now that I'm going backwards not forwards. Hoping it's just because I haven't been in 3 days and w4 will be ok when I start it on thurs.

Rinceoir · 16/03/2016 08:32

W3 finished here also, starting w4 Friday hopefully. I struggled with run 2 but found 3 ok. You can repeat some runs if it's hard going. Now I need to find some reasonably flat routes around me for the coming weeks. Even the local park is hilly.

runningbug123 · 16/03/2016 09:04

Hello, newbie here I have just found your thread.

I have been doing the C25K for a little bit now.

I'm doing my training on my treadmill at the moment as the getting ready and getting out there was a massive hurdle for me. I have never been a jogger/runner as I find it difficult.

I have signed up for a amazing 5k next month, it's going to be tough for me but I'm going to just do my best and go for it.

I'm today on week 5 Run 3 or as I am going to call it "the dreded run of doom"

I hated it when I started and spent a while not finishing the podcasts but as soon as I finished one by slowing down and pacing myself I felt amazing and it's been pushing me forward.
